Hi everyone - newbie here! I watched Grease:YTOTIW since episode 4 so, I would love a DVD of the NBC series.
I can't wait for the cast recording from Grease on Broadway. I've been listening to a copy of ONJ & John Travolta's Grease. But, I can't wait until I can have Max & Laura's CD!
A complete recording with two beautiful singers like Max and Laura would be a treasure. I saw a clip of Travolta on utube and didn't really like him. At 28, he was way past the teen vibe, and he was no singer at all.
Ray, could not disagree with you more. First, he was 24 not 28 and he looked even younger. Second...it was never his singing that made him Danny then, and the star he continues to be.
There WILL be a new revival cast recording. My friend is playing ROGER in the show, and he signed his contracts for the recording rights yesterday!
Great! Thanks for letting us know. It looks like this is Daniel Everedge's first Broadway role also (if ibdb is up to date). I'll bet he's excited about it also.
I'll look forward to the recording and hearing more of all the cast.
Oh my gosh, cool! When they introduced the Broadway cast, I took one look at Roger and I knew the show is going to be a blast-------he looks like he's SO much fun!!!!! And you are a friend of his??? So awesome :) I just can't wait to see this show, hurry up September, ha ha ha ha ha!
Hmmm, IBDB is now listing the songs in the new production, but it doesn't include "Sandy" or "Hopelessly Devoted to You" which all the PR said would be included. Maybe they just don't have a complete list. It shows that Sandy sings "Since I Don't Have You." Should be a great song for Laura.
I've got to agree with the person who posted about Travolta not being a good singer. As far as his acting career, I've only seen him in a few things the one and only one that I've seen him in that I really liked was Phenomenon. I used to watch the TV series that he was in called Welcome Back Kotter and to me the way he played Danny Zuko in the movie was like a slightly older more mature Vinnie Barbarino, goofy and definitely not to be taken seriously. He's made a name for himself but I definitely don't think he's top notch. For my movie ticket money I like Sean Connery. The man is a true artist with the ability to play whatever kind of character he tries and do so with finesse and the perfect inflections in his voice. He was excellent in the movie First Knight as King Arthur and he was also wonderful in the movie Medicine Man as a rebellious raucous scientist who finds the cure for cancer though I didn't watch the whole movie because it was too violent he was also great in a movie called The Rock, this time as a convict helping the government to corral a rebel group that took over Alcatraz. When I think of Max and what he will bring to us whether on Broadway or on the big screen I know that he will give us many wonderful hours with his true gift for acting. I would love to see him in a really meaty serious role. I think he would be good as James Dean.
I really hope that there will be a new Cast Recording, however there are already a few different verions out there. Heck, the '94 revival has two versions....
Does anyone have a video-sound copy of the short Sandra Dee number that had five or six of the final Sandys in it on the TV show. It is gone from the NBC list and I would like to have a copy to play for a disabled person that is very interested in the show but missed it.
If so and there is some way you can share it (assuming you don't mind) please contact me with a personal message to my site on this list.
i agree that laura would sing "since i don't have you" wonderfully, but for "Sandy" not being in the new show, it isn't actually from the stage show and the song they sing instead is much funnier. It's called "alone at a drive-in movie"
the grease cast recording is going to make my life complete!! does anyone know if it will be out by the time the show opens? it would be amazing if i could see the show and go straight afterwards and buy the soundtrack, but i heard the legally blonde soundtrack doesn't come out for another few weeks, and the show's been going on for a bit now...
I have not seen anything that said they are going to be recording. There are shows that never get the OBC recording done. Those that do usually are not done for opening.
Max mentioned the recording in an interview and a friend of Daniel Everidge's (Roger) posted that he had signed the contract for the recording, so it sounds like they are doing one.
First time posting here. I wonder if they recording will be released before the show officially opens. That's what "Spring Awakening" did, which is really rare for a Broadway show, but they did it to help get more word of mouth out and maybe it's a trend that will be picked up by other shows? I hope so because ever since it really began to look possible that Max/Laura would win, I've been salivating over the thought of hearing them recorded and I don't want to wait much longer.
I dont think they are going to start recording until after the show is open and they are done with any rehearsals. Since the show is Grease and the ticket sales are so incredible, they dont need to have the sountrack out by the opening. They are definetly doing one though.
I'm happy to hear that there will be a cast recording. I can't wait to hear Max and Laura and the rest sing in this rendition of Grease. I'm also excited to hear that advance ticket sales are going so well also. But I had no doubt that they would because this is not just another revival of Grease. As you said way back in the finale show God's favor is on this project. I wouldn't be a bit surprised that it will be a huge success and that people will remark on how well the cast works together. This has been a special thing from the very beginning and it is bringing a lot of fans of the TV show together on this board and to see the play. God is good!
Ah, see I was wondering if because the pre-sales were so good, they wouldn't go that route. Oh well, I can wait that much longer, just knowing we're actually going to get one is the key. And for that I'm so excited. Thanks for the reply Maxismylove. (You're Max's mom, right? If so ... let me add to the chorus of how wonderful he is.)
I am so excited! I spoke with my best friend in the cast and they were on a break in the green room!! At the Recording Studio....So they pushed the Opening Night to Sunday to accomodate the studio hrs...Great News, huh!?
Maybe the NBC show was a ratings 'disaster', but the accounts I read said it still had 8 million viewers at the end. That's not exactly 'no one.' I know there were a lot of ardent fans who would buy a DVD.
I would buy a DVD of the show too Kait! Are you kidding I would love it. Like you said 8 million isn't exactly no one. I bet if they were to rerun it now it would be a diffrent story!
Personally, I want a video of the actual production of Grease. Now that's something I'm sure all 8 million people would buy. Especially those who can't get to NYC to see the show itself.
ya, but there is no way that they can actually do that, then people wouldnt see the show, but i would love that too. i saw it last night and i was MESMERIZED my it. Max and Laura were OUTSTANDING! i talked to the people owrking and the cd is due to come out on October 2nd of the new, broadway cast. it will be great!!!
Well it may surprise you, but that had occured to me. However astute the reply, it isn't very helpful in trying to search for distributors or vendors that may be handling it.
A search for Grease elicits responses about each of the other many large productions and dozens of lesser shows so named, as well as lots of advice about keeping one's kitchen sink drain open or handling automobile maintenance.
But the other main show CDs have lead-in names, e.g., The Original Broadway Cast Album, the Rockin' Rydell Edition, the Original Soundtrack from the Motion Picture, etc..
I was looking for a more definitive title. I would guess that they might use the extended title, "Grease On Broadway," but that isn't really exclusive enough for good marketing.
Yeah, that is what I had been imagining. Something along the lines of, 'Grease: 2007 Revival Cast Recording' so that is probably the closest guess as of now.
