From the Lexington Herald (KY) an article on Derek and it sounds like good things are happening for him.

smile Thanks for sharing this.  Sounds like Derek was a little upset about
losing.  I do agree with him as far as showing it over and over where
he goofed.  I thought he looked a little upset after he was called.

Take care & God Bless.  DD biggrin

You know, in the interviews I've read, both Derek and Austin don't really sound that upset about not winning, but more relieved that they didn't have to play Danny for a year.

Derek sounded more upset with the repeated footage of his mistake and the fact that it wasn't explained.  Although I think all the contestents faced the same problem with hearing music over the initial audience reaction and you just have to continue.

Derek has played Danny for two years, although not on Broadway, and Austin has also been in Grease and he was just as happy not to have to do it again.  Sure, they would have gladly taken the role had they won, but I think they are both just happy that the series brought them attention and has given them some opportunities that they hadn't been getting.  I wish them the best and it would be great to see them get work also.  Same thing with Ashley and Alli.

But Max and Laura really earned the roles and I think they are going to be awesome.   I got very excited when I first saw Max on the live show and that doesn't happen very often for me.  The last time was when I saw the video of Hugh Jackman in Oklahoma and I sat there with my mouth open.  Then I saw him in The Boy From Oz and there was just so much energy and excitement in his performance.  And I see that potential in Max.  Can't wait to see if I'm right!  And Laura has just continued to grow on me.   It took me several episodes to narrow it down to her, but she was my final choice also.

Interesting, to hear Derek explain that crack. I think most of the viewing audience got tired of that constant replay. If I was Derek I'd be upset about that.

However, I liked Max from early on, before the duet with Kate and Derek. Even on the show where Derek was spot-on (first performance week, when he did Crazy Little Thing Called Love) -- he was excellent -- a great showman and my husband chose him and Kate as his favorites. I found myself smiling through Max's performance, and really pulling for him from then on.

If the audience noise was the reason he cracked on the song with Kate, what was his excuse for the crack during his solo, the one where he is holding Laura? I liked his singing but he did crack twice.

Austin did not looked natural when he smiled, sang or anything... but worse of all did not even has a macho bone in him....

Nope, Derek didn't explain the second crack, but then the show didn't keep repeating that one.  wink  It's tough when you've made a mistake that probably cost you a job to be reminded of it over and over, so I sympathize.  But that's the biz and part of it.

Derek's two vocal accidents had nothing to do with my preference for Max's overwhelming talent and suitability for the role. It may be that the producers/editors/panel played them up to influence the voting, and they succeeded. It may seem ruthless, but they did everything they could to get the Danny they wanted. And after all, there are millions at stake.
