Limericks as a Gift for the Cast of Grease
Permalink Closed

Hi to all,

I am fairly new here and hope you enjoy my new type of contribution. I have written limericks as a hobby and have been asked to write them for various occasions. (I use the usual rhyme scheme of rhyming the first second and last lines, with a "couplet" in the middle. The rule I vary is the length of the lines. In order to "tell a story" I need more than 10 syllables, but that's not a biggie, right?)

I wrote 17 limericks so far. I sent the first 6 to be included in the gift to Max and Laura. I made a few revisions (please note Kari!!!) and added 11 more. I realize I need some help to make these accurate. I also would appreciate grammar and spelling help. I will post the limericks 6 at a time and then ask my questions at the end. I would like to specifically ask Jose's mother-in-law to find out for me the "show questions" if at all possible. Her daughter may be willing to ask if she knows it is for a gift. She has already been kind enough to answer an earlier question for me. (I would not want to bother Max and Laura at this time as I can imagine they feel more pressure to "carry the show.") Are there any other relatives I missed that are here?

Thanks in advance!

Limericks for the Cast of Grease midwestmumsie@yahoo.com

1. There once was a girl from a Minnesota town.

She played Sandy "back home." Laura had the part down.

          Going to California was bold.....

She had to put her wedding on hold.

NBC showed her modeling a wedding gown.

2.  There once was a boy, Max, who was from the Southwest.

At Grease  Academy he was put to the test.

          From a very early age

          He loved performing on stage.

Max just needed to prove that he was the best!

3.  Laura, in pale yellow shorts, looked innocent and sweet.

From small town girl to Broadway Babe would be quite a feat.

And did Jim Jacobs somehow forget

Broadway Sandy had been a brunette?

Laura had to give her all, in order to compete.

4.  Max started out the show with long, shaggy hair.

They called him a "slacker." Did he really care?

          "Summer of '69" was stellar.

He did not end up in the cellar.

He sighed in relief when he moved on from there.

5.  "They might eat you for breakfast," we heard David warn.

But the following week, he knew a star was born.

Singing "Jesus Christ Superstar" Week 2

Laura's awesome talents came shining through.

She "staggered" Lord Weber. Her "character was  torn."

6.  Max always sang in character, right from the start.

He used facial expressions. His words touched your heart.

And his new haircut was pleasing.

"I'm more sexy," he starts teasing.

The judges notice! He could play the Danny part!

7.  Kathleen Marshall took Max and Laura under her wing.

Their L-O-N-G audition proved they both could act, dance, and sing.

          Kathleen's credentials aren't phony

          Will she win another Tony?

Are there "Magic Changes" and what will the future bring?

8.  Some of the Greasers were introduced on TV.

They all seemed in character from what we could see.

But some have questioned their age

           It doesn't matter on stage.

Stockard Channing, (movie) Rizzo, was past 33!

9.  Jose sauntered out first as T-Bird, Sonny.

Daniel will play Roger. Bet they'll be funny.

Lindsay, as Jan, waved the best.

Max and Laura joined the rest.

The show should be great. On that they've bet money!

  10.  When Matt Salvidar strutted on stage on TV

He proved to us why he'll be the next Keneckie.

Chicks won't scream because he's frightening

But because he sings, "Greased Lightning."

We've heard he's had a great career in NYC.

   11.  Robyn Hurder could be considered a Broadway vet.

Her photographs are beautiful as blond and brunette.

Will she warble her love for Freddy?

            This Marty would be ready.

Being a Pink Lady is exciting we would bet.

 12.  Kristen Wyatt, as Frenchy, looks like she'd be fun.

She's a Broadway vet, too, with all the roles she's done.

            "BeautySchool Dropout" is her song

Will her haircolor be all all wrong?

Who helps Sandy look sexy? Is Frenchy the one?

13.  Allison Fischer was a vampire in a Broadway play.

Would she try out for Laura's role? Maybe another day.

              She'll play Patty this time.

              No solo, what a crime!

Saddle shoes and poodle skirts. It's the '50's on display.

14.  Rizzo's big song is "There Are Worse Things I Could Do?"

Jenny Powers, as Rizzo, sings "Sandra Dee," too.

She was in "Little Women" as Meg

So we can tell her to "Break a Leg."

She has attitude and sass. That really comes through.

 15.  Jeb Brown is Vince Fontaine, the hunky TV guy.

He brings his TV crew over to Rydell High.

Will he join the hand jive dance?

Then will Danny get the chance

To show off his dancing moves that made Sandy cry?

 16.  Stephen Buntrock returns to Broadway all dressed in white.

He'll be a Teen Angel singing to Frenchy at night.

Will he tell Frenchy to say prayers

As he glides up and down the stairs?

Will that be a highlight in the show? That's probably right!

 17. Jose, Lindsey, David, Ryan, Susan, and Jamisen Scott.

Have they ever been on Broadway before? Apparently not!

They survived auditions and call-backs, too.

And since all of them have now gotten through

It will be incredible to see all the talent they've got.

 18.  This production requires costumes, sets, lights, music, and sound.

Derek, Martha, Kenneth, and Brian are experts they found.

We've heard rehearsals are going well

             With such incredible personnel.

Excitement builds as this "Grease on Broadway" gets off the ground!

(I added the last one for the Technical people, so there should be 18 total so far)

Sorry about the big spaces in the first ones, but I will try to do all the editing at once as I already made a few edits in my first post!!  I didn't see that preview button!

My questions:
1. Does Marty sing "Freddy My Love" in the show?
2. Will the Teen Angel be wearing white?
3. Will the Teen Angel go up and down stairs like in the movie?
4. Does Patty wear saddle shoes and poodle skirts?
5. Does anyone wear saddle shoes and poodle skirts in the show?
6. Does Kenickie sing "Greased Lightning" or does Danny lead that song?
7. If Kenickie doesn't sing "Greased Lightning" does he drive that car at any time?

Anyone- spelling and grammar
How do you spell Kenickie. I have seen it several ways?
Should I write some of the cast were introduced... or some of the cast was introduced?

Thanks

1. I'm guessing Marty will sing "Freddy My Love"
2. Teen Angel will probably be wearing white, as he is an angel
3. I'm not sure about this one
4. She definitely will be wearing something of the sort
5. Definitely. It's the 50's!
6. Normally, Kenickie sings it, but since this show has more from the movie, I'm not sure.
7. Yes I think he does drive the car.

And I think you are spelling Kenickie correctly. I think it should be "some of the cast WAS introduced.

I hope I helped! I really love your limericks. They're really fantastic! Great job!

How fun! charmstheword, you have a gift for rhyme!
Sorry I don't really have answers to your questions, but I really enjoyed reading your limericks.
Do you plan to have a conclusion for the story? Can't wait to read more!

Thank you so much, Thatll Show Em, and Future Sandy. I also received a nice note from Kari who mailed out the first seven.

I had planned on writing limericks for the rest of the television show, but am so frustrated. I mailed money via paypal (to someone on this board) and received a very bad set of DVD's. furiousThey freeze up and stop. I contacted her, but have not heard from her. Once I had received the DVD's I started to tape over my Grease videotapes. I am so sorry as now I don't have the show to watch. I had planned to watch it on the treadmill and write the rest of the limericks.

I also need a bit more encouragement as you guys and Laura's mom are the only ones who responded to them. It takes time to write them. This thread actually has not even been viewed many times compared to all of the other ones, so that is discouraging, too.confused

Future Sandy, I think you made some good guesses on the questions. I hope that someone who sees the previews will report back to see if my limericks are correct.

Thanks again!

I'm not sure, but I believe it should be "some (of the cast) were". It's been a long time since I studied my English lessons, but I believe "some" (which indicates more than one) is the subject so the the verb should be "were". Perhaps an English teacher could answer this one for us!
