Brooks Atkinson question

just wondering if anyone who has already been to the theater can help me out. I've got 2 options for sets of seats, one of which is front row center. I'm not sure if that is too close to the stage. I definitely don't want to miss anything. The other option is row k in center orchestra. Can anyone tell me where I'm better off sitting. thanks

I was at the 7/25 performance, and my first comment was that I would not be happy in the first few rows because I thought it was much too close and it seems I would miss out on the "bigger" scope of the play.  I would not choose the front row.  My opinion.biggrin

This is the link to the seating chart....your seats look perfect to me!
I do have to add though, I do not think there is a "bad" seat in the house, just preference.  My preference is to sit farther back to see the whole stage.  I think you will love your seats.biggrin

Funny, I think those are the exact seats I was offered. I can hold out for a few  weeks, so that would be great if you could let me know what your experience was like. Thanks

Hello 799, that would be great if you give us the scoop on the seating.  I have tickets A 111-112 and was hoping they are not too close.  I also would like to purchase tickets for the evening we arrive in NY and there are some available on Center Row N.  I haven't been to this theatre....heck I've never been to NY!  Only going to see this show.  So, I would be interested in your take on the seating.  Thanks a bunch!

I sat in A111 on Tuesday night. When I first sat down I said,,,oh no, this is too close. When the curtains opened...I was thrilled. I saw everything closeup including the beads of sweat on Max's brow. When he came close to the stage and sang he seemed like he was singing to me...really it was scary. You are very, very fortunate to have these seats. I gaurantee you will have a thrill of a lifetime. I did.

Yes, the front row is fine (and perfect in that theater).  You even have more leg room than everyone else!

Though, every seat is fine, even the last row of the mezzanine.

I will be more than happy to post what I can. I too have never been to NYC. My tickets are for Tue. Aug. 7. If I can find a computer after the show, I will post then. Otherwise, I should be back home on Thur. night (late).
If you look at the pictures from the websites that I gave earlier, the front row seats do look to close. But at the time that I was purchasing tickets, I truely believe that each performance has one major event going on at a time. Something for the patron to concentrate on. Not the entire stage. I could be wrong though.

At least one thing is for sure, by purchasing front row tickets, I have been treated like royalty by everyone. The hotel concierge, the pleasant female that answered the phone when I called the theatre, the limousine company. I absolutely expect this trip to be one of my major highlights in my life. And I have plenty.

I also heard, that on Tue. Aug. 7, Mike Myers will be there. That will be exciting!!!!

Greatwhiteway and Hello 799.....thank you so much for the reply on the seating!  Now I'm even more excited, so I will go ahead and get a ticket for myself the night before as well.  Sounds like it would be a fun experience seeing Max up so close.  I can't wait!
Thanks again!

Pardon?  I'm not sure where you've sat at the Brooks, but all side Orchestra seats from Seat 9 and out are obstructed view.

For those folks with tickets in Seat 9 or further to the side, don't expect to get a full view of the stage.

Thanks for the update. While I have never been there. What is the obstruction? I can't see anything in the pictures that would cause a partial view.

The seats begin to reach out beyond the edge of the stage and the obstruction is the wall that begins and follows the seats out once the stage ends.

I sat on the right side of the orchestra (stage left), third row from the back, 7 seats off the aisle and I had no problem seeing. Are any of the seats listed as obstructed? The theaters usually have that listed.

-hoabuddy,

Went to the show tonight and sat in the AAA 109-110 seats. I thought the seats were excellent. The people around me did NOT think so. They all thought it was too close. I actually thought it was great to be able to see who had fillings in their teeth. It is actually that close. It is in the eye of the beholder, if I went again, I would ask for the same seats again. I did go to the outer seats in the Orchestra section and I could NOT find any obstruction from seeing the stage. Just didn't see any. Thought that all the seats were good. But I would definitely want front row again!!!!!

Front row mezz are probably the best seats in the house.

Thanks for the info  Hello799. From what you said, I sure they'll be great. I think it'll probably be fun to be that up close and personal with the performers. It turns out though, that the person giving me the tickets is giving me both sets. I haven't decided if I am actually going to see it twice myself, but I guess that depends on whether or not I really like it. The front row tickets are for next week. The others are for sometime in late September.  Even though I will probably end up agreeing more with you than the people sitting around you, it makes me feel a little better knowing that I can always see it again from a different view.

I went August 5th and was in the center of the very last row. I thought the seats were great, nothing in your way and it looked like we were about eye level or maybe just a little higher than the stage. It is not a big theater, so I think you would be fine no matter where you were!

However, I would have prefered the front row center, not to give anything away, but there is a little "audience participation" during one particular scene that is for those in front center! I must say, I was a little jealous of that!

But all in all, I agree that I really don't think there is a bad seat in the house, I walked throughout the theater, and had a clear view everywhere I went.

Enjoy!!!

My husband and I saw the show this past Saturday and sat 2nd row, center stage.  I felt like I was a part of the show with the cast making eye contact with us.  We smelled the cigarette smoke when they smoked, saw sweat dripping from their faces, noticed every facial expression and didn't feel like we missed a thing.  I would sit that close again.  The casting is great.  Enjoy! Oh, I'm sure you will get satisfaction in any seat in the house.  It was an awesome show.

whoabuddy.

How did you like the seats. Now that I think about it. I'm pretty sure we sat in seats 105-106. Even though out tickets said 109-110. We were definitely in the front row, sitting on the right side of the stage (looking at the stage) about 5 to 6 seats from the aisle. Nobody said anything and I didn't realize it until now. Interesting?!?!!!!!

Just wondering what you thought??

I'm going to the show next tuesday (sep 4). I got AAA114 seat.
Wow! is that so close? I am soooo excited, I can't wait.
I live in Vancouver Island (Canada),which is the other side of the continent.
My first visit to east coast.  Yey!

I'll be there on Sept. 4 also!  Further back that night though.  I have a front seat on Saturday, so it will be fun to see it from further back where you can see the whole stage easier.

My son and I sat in Row A, seats 113 and 114. You will love those seats! And you will love NYC.

I decided to get up close and personal seats too, based on these reviews. I am sure we will love them. But what if any are the drawbacks to front row? Also if the actor is staring you straight in the face what the heck should you do...just look back, smile? For them it is a techinque I guess. For me I think it would make me nervous.

There are so many lights on the actors, that they don't really see the audience but they concentrate on giving their best show to them.

The only 2 that I could think of. In which neither of them bothered me but might bother someone else.

The fog that is on the stage actually floats to the front and rolls of into your lap. Doesn't really smell, but it takes away your concentration to the show.
Second, you can definitely smell the cigs that they smoke. Like I said, this doesn't bother me, but for all the people around me, they seemed to have disliked that part very much!!!!!

Well that's a big relief actually. I will just assume they can't see me and enjoy the moment.

Thanks, I was afraid the drawbacks would be something like you are sitting 5 feet below the stage level. Neither  the smoke nor the fog will bother me, and I may even like the fog.  We want to see everything up close....well everyone...well someone.  aww

Actually, you are sitting below the stage. Its not 5 feet. I'm 5ft. 4in. and sitting down the stage comes to my chest. I guess I didn't think that was a problem either.

I meant  like maybe your head was 5 feet below stage level. Chest at stage level seems fine to me.

Yes, you're craning your neck upwards to view the stage, but they're very excellent seats.

I sat in the front row for Moon for the Misbegotten with Kevin Spacey. Because there was very little lighting off stage for that production, they could clearly see the audience. Spacey had a LOT of demands from the people in the front row (no Playbills in laps, no packages next to seats). Everything had to be stored under the stage. Apparently, every little thing distracted him, but that's just hearsay.

From what I've heard, the only instance when the actors play to the front row is during "Those Magic Changes" when Ryan Patrick Binder slaps everyone 5.

Oh I'll just slump down a little in the seat. I'll let the kids do the high 5...if he comes our way. I know my one daughter would get a real kick out of that. She is very anxious to see the show from the first row....almost as much as me!

We attended the August 11, performance and sat front row, orchestra section, seats 110 and 111.  It was grand to see the actors up close.  We thoroughly enjoyed the entire show!

In my opinion, the best seats are front Mezz. If you can manage to get a seat in the first few rows of the first mezz, you'll still have a great view and won't have to act like a cat looking at a fly in the air as you would have to keep moving your head back and forth sitting anywhere in the orchestra.
