My fiance and i are going to the show tomorrow night and was wondering..is there a dress code? Any Broadway shows i've gone to in the past were in Fall/Winter so always wore dress or casual but neat attire...I've heard it is hot in this theatre and was wondering if khaki shorts and a casual (not T) shirt was ok or should I wear long pants? Thanks guys and gals!
I've always loved that Broadway for New Yorkers is like going to a film house. No need to dress up if you don't feel comfortable. Khaki's and a nice polo would be just fine. Enjoy the show and spread the word!!!
Thanks EV...just gonna be a hot one in NYC tomorrow!..and don't worry...I'll be spreading that Grease is the word..is the word...isthe word...is the word...lol......

Funny that you say that. I'm a New Yorker and I'm always a little disappointed that people no longer dress for the theater. Even the last few times I've been to Lincoln Center for the ballet, I've been surprised that there are more than a few women in jeans. And this is coming from a 25 year old woman who is most definitely a jeans wearer . I just think its fun to get all dolled up for a nice night on the town I guess. But to answer the original question (and really just reiterate what everyone else has said), shorts and a nice shirt are more than suitable these days. Much to this theatergoer's disappointment. lol
I also appreciate your point of view whoabuddy! I love to get a suit on and have a great night out. I do think much of the problem is common sense with some, though.Jeans at Lincoln Center...yikes! I'm a Juilliard School grad, and as a performer, would expect a dress code for the Met or Carnegie ect.. I was raised and started my career here in L.A, and I've always been concerned about the pressure that many family's feel to spend alot of money making a night of theater memorable. Seeing everyone in furs and limo's here at the Music Center has to scare some away, I'm sure. I think that's why I embrace the casual feel of broadway...so everyone feels confident supporting all the arts... Glad there are so many on this Forum now! My best friend is playing Sonny, so give an extra shout-out everytime you catch the show!!
