You won't get let in until a half hour before the show starts, but the "line" forms at about an hour before.

What are you looking to eat? Fast food, nice dining?

There's a great sushi place on 8th Avenue, between 45th and 46th Streets.

Teri, sounds like you are in the same boat as I was. It was my first time too. So many things to do. First things first. About the show, as MrE1111 stated, they won't open the doors until 30 minutes prior to the show. If you show up then, expect a long line in front of the theatre. Do NOT worry, the line moves rather quickly.
As for places to eat. There are about 2-3 restaurants on each block.
I would recommend the night boat tour from pier 83. That was awesome.
As for what to wear, whatever makes you comfortable. There is no dress code.
Just as a warning, restaurants are very expensive.

there are a lot of people who are in the same boat. In fact someone asked for some Restauant ideas before. If you use the search function on this site you will see what others suggested.(search Restauants ) I would post a link to it but it seems not to want to work for me. Have fun.

Thanks everyone for the info. I did a search for RESTAURANTS as suggested and it had some great ideas. Actually, one mentioned was Frankie and Johnnies and that was one place I was considering...that and Joe Allens. Does anyone know how long the show lasts? We were thinking of eating after the show and need to know what time to make a reservation.

the show runs about 2 hours and 20 minutes. it then takes the cast about another 20 minutes to come out the stage door if you were interested in getting atuographs.

Hi! Frankie and Johnnie and Joe Allen are an older crowd. The place where many show peopel go now is Angus McIndoe; they have a nice web site. Many actors go there after the show for drinks or to hang out -- it's a favorite of many in the cast of "Curtains." It's more "today", whereas the places you mentioned are definitely past tense.

When we went to see the show on Aug 10th, we ate at the Chelsea Grill which is right around the corner from the theater....Google it and maybe you can get the exact addresss since I can't remember. We had made reservations for 6:15 at the restaurant and got to the theater with time to spare for the 8pm show.
We just planned backward from that time, like "we have to be at the restaurant at 6:15, so we need to leave MOMA by.....etc" It was casual but nice and not too "touristy"....Although I am a total tourist, our aunt who lives there recommended this restaurant.

There are several italian places right next door to the theater. All of them are good and fairly reasonable.

Thanks everyone for all of the great restaurant suggestions. My friend and I are so excited about our trip. We made our dining reservations today, we decided to eat at Frankie & Johnnie's after Grease. We really wanted to eat at a great steakhouse, mostly because there aren't any where we live. We will be in NY for 4 days and have a jam packed itinerary...we want to see as much of NY as possible in 4 short days. We are also going to Caroline's on Broadway for a comedy show, we are eating at The Mesa Grill after that. So much to do in so little time, we figure we will sleep on the plane on the way there and home! We are just thankful that we are able to go and we are so excited to see Grease....we leave in just 15 days....I better get packing! :)

ENJOY... ENJJOY... new york is fabulous.. another great dining place is Hotel Edison cafe right down street a few buildings.. great food and reasonable..

dont forget to go to TOYS R US...youre never to old.. and ride the indoor ferris wheel

My friend and I ate at the Mesa Grill on Sunday after seeing "Xandu" and it was fabulous! Delicious food. You'll love it.

I ended up seeing "Grease" three times! I really loved it. The show moved very quickly and everyone was really good in it. Max and Laura were great, as was most of the main cast. Keep wanting to get a review written and I will get to it as soon as I have time!

If this is your first trip to NYC, you must go to Tavern on the Green in Central Park. We went there for mid-afternoon late lunch and then people-watched as we strolled. The setting is gorgeous in the afternoon. I believe we were seated in the crystal room. Casual dress is just fine and the scenery is breathtaking. The food was wonderful and reasonably priced. This is a landmark restaurant. Hope you are able to fit it in your itinerary! It is a short taxi ride.
