Well, reviews and comments from those who have seen the show recently are certainly still welcomed.
I will be seeing it this coming Saturday (and again on Tuesday) so I will be posting my views on the production and the cast then. Really looking forward to seeing it!
I'm debating going back...but only if my tickets are deeply discounted or complimentary.
I'd sure like to know where you could get discounted or complimentaty tickets for the show since family cannot even get them. Let me in on your contact.
Mrs. N., I read the mentioned article - or at least pieces of it. When it started sounding like the same old, same old, which was pretty early in the article, I stopped reading. I'm pretty good at deciding for myself, what I like.
I don't think that MrE has those such contacts. I read his post and took it as he did NOT like the show and would only return if it was discounted.
As of right now, the only comp that I know of---would be if someone else paid for the ticket.
Which is what I offer to you. Although, my wife and I would be unable to go until next spring. If you and your family would like to go, I would love to treat. Honestly, I think we should invite Jane and just simply have a good time.
If interested, please let me know!!!!!!!!! I will call it a GOOD DEED!!!!!!!! I think I owe you that.
No, I don't have contacts or friends within Grease. Wish the friends I do have were working on it, but, alas, they don't.
It's not a matter of liking or disliking a show. My philosophy, as a frequent theatergoer, is that if I paid full price the first time I saw it, the only way I'd see it again, no matter how much I loved or hated it, is if I could get a great discount or a freebie.
Grease is certainly not offering comps at the moment, at least not to the organizations to which I belong.
Believe me Rachel, if I had a heads-up, you'd be the first person I'd contact with info.
Oh, HELLO799, that's a pretty sweet offer. The trouble for both Max's family and ours (Laura's) is that we also have to get on a plane and fly there...to say nothing of everything else that's expensive once we get there. It is hard to go for less than $1000.00 if both parents go--even if we can stay with the kids at their apartments. And it's not easy to stay with them as their apartments are small and their lives are so demanding. But I can't complain too much. I will be able to go a few times and ironically, I too have wished at times that I could also afford to pay for someone else to go (like Renefran who writes on this board) who has been a great fan but just doesn't have the resources to pay for a trip to go. Still, you are sweet to offer. Thank you!
The back orchestra and mezzanine tickets on ebay go relatively cheaply. My kids and I decided we needed to see this show one last time. We were able to get premium weekend tickets at half price. We are just hoping Max and Laura don't decide they need that day off. I read the review above and I think he is trying his best to be negative. But basically he is saying that our two can sing and dance, and that young people will like the show. Well I've been there. And he is right on both counts. The singing and dancing are great and there were many young families there. my brother and his wife...who never heard of YTOTIW told me they wanted to take their 3 kids and wanted to know how it was. I gave them my best review and told them all they needed to decide is if they wanted to see Grease. If the critic wrote about the great raunchy, edgy humor I know they would not be considering the show.
I am by no means a veteran theatre go-er (and I'm inventing words...LOL) but the girl in line in front of us to see Grease was telling everyone within ear shot she won a lottery to see the show. I didn't get the specifics, but the gist of it was any tickets that are not picked up at the will-call window are offered in a lottery. She had won the lottery for two tickets and paid $30 each for them. She said she was notified 2 hours before seating that she had won the tickets in the lottery and had to pay-by-phone for the tickets. Other people in line said it's a way to make sure all the seats are filled so they don't end up playing to a half-empty theatre. Our tickets were purchased well in advance and said "no refund / no return" so I'm wondering if the will-call tickets were paid for once by someone who couldn't make it and then re-sold to a lottery winner cheaply because they already had the original profit? As I said, I'm not real savvy on how things work, so I really have no idea.

I have some stage-door pictures we took of Laura, Max and a few other cast members if there is a place here to post them. It was one week ago tommorrow that we saw it and I'm already dying to go back!
Any tickets that do not get picked up at the will-call window are not refunded. Any tickets that do not get picked up are unused.
That person in front of you sounds completely wrong, and the people who said that it's done so they don't play to an empty house are even more wrong. Perhaps she was talking about a Church/Synagogue/Community lottery, but there is no "pay by phone" program to get tickets.
Select shows have a "lottery" - for $25 seats, generally in the front or last rows. Grease is not one of them.
Hello799 that was such a nice offer and very thoughtful then again, I already knew that about you. I have already scheduled my next trip and I am going to go see Max alone. I want to be there for the concert in the park on the 16th and think that anyone on the boards that can get there inexpensively (Iris, take that Sunday off) should meet at the part to see all the performers. Jane is right in the cost of traveling with a large group like the Crumm clan. We are ashamed to say that we spent two thousand dollars on theatre tickets this last trip and that includes one extra show of Grease. We did get comp tickets for the premier thankfully. It was so worth it. Jack saw Hairspray and got to go backstage with Ashley, he saw the Lion King and Grease 2 times. We also saw Spring Awakening (goodness me, there was a surprise in that one) which was incredible, Rent, Chorus Line and Grease 3 times.
I love NY so much and did way before Max ever performed on a stage. We have decided that we are going out each month to see Max because he needs his family to love on him. I love hearing how so many of you want to go back in spite of the cost and someone on Max's guestbook said she has already seen it 7 times. I want to see it every day that I am in town this next time since it is just me, but I will see if I can get standing room tickets. I can't wait.

Iris, you need to have the photos on a web service site in order to link them to this forum. If you use something like Photo Bucket or Yahoo or any provider that will allow you to upload them, then you can get a url and link them to this site using the photo icon (little green tree) and putting in the address.
Alternately, if you have digital images, you can email them to someone (like me) who has a web site and can post them for you, then you can link to that url.

My bad. Afer I posted that I remembered that happened in the line to see "Avenue Q" not Grease. But thanks for the information about the lottery. I had never heard of such a thing. The only thing we heard of while there was a place called TKTS or something like that at the Grand Marquis that sells discount tickets. Since we purchased our Grease tickets so far in advance we never checked into discount tickets.

I'd be willing to chip in for awesome fan Reniefran!
(Also would love to chip in for awesome moms, Rachel and Jane!)

Maxismylove,
We spent more than that on our Broadway tickets. We had to buy premium seats for Grease (both shows), so my super someone could sit close enough. Then there were the tickets to Les Mis and Legally Blonde. Totally worth every penny!! However, the kids want to go back right away, especially my super. They are ready to pack up and get an apartment in the city. We all love NYC so much. My fondest memory when I was a little girl in Jersey was commuting into Manhattan with my dad to visit his work. He worked in the World Trade Center complex back then. I did not take my kids to the city for years because we were always too busy and they were too young I thought, but I always hoped to take them where their grandfather worked and relive those times. After the September 11 tragedy, I realized life is too short. I took the kids to the city that summer and we have gone several summers since. Just like when I was a little girl, we stay in Jersey and commute in. We always wanted to go to a Broadway show. Every visit, we would say next year we will go. Then, YTOTIW came along. I am so thankful that a TV show and Max gave us the incentive to go. This was my kids', and especially my super's, favorite trip to NYC ever. Worth every penny.
So glad you will be able to go back often. Please report back. Super (and the rest of us) would love a Max update. I hope to go back soon, but probably won't be as soon as the kids are hoping. Maybe I should have bought a Mega Millions ticket.
That was probably 2 thousand of the best spent money you will ever spend. and that is what money is for... bringing joy to yourself and loved ones. And hopefully you remind Max often that he is the first of the two main reasons people are going to see Grease.
You know my offer will always be on the table. When my wife and I decide to make definite plans for going back to NYC, I will drop you both a line and see whats up!!!
As for Reniefran, I would be more than happy to help pitch in. I will get the ball rolling if Reniefran would be so kind as to reply to this thread.
On a side note, I think that I am now hooked on GREASE. (Jane, you should know this one). In Wisconsin Dells, the last performance of Grease is playing on Friday night, and yes, I just had to get the tickets.
Thanks Hello. If you could help organize something for Reniefran, I think it would be great. Count me in. (Being a newbie here, I'm not sure of the protocal.) You're awesome.
Count me in too. She has been a constant prayer warrior for Max and Laura and very encouraging in all her comments left for them.
Maxfan, I think that was my very favorite story of all the boards ever. Those kind of memories are the things that make a family and there is nothing more important to the Crumm's. It is so incredible to see what people are spending to come to see Max in this show and "super" will be someone that our family remembers all our lives. Kids like him have been more of an encouragement to Max than he could ever be to them. I think your family is blessed.
Since this thread about not being popular is getting so much attention, perhaps someone can answer a couple questions.
1. Were there any significant changes to the show during the preview period? We had discussed some of the confusing moments during the show's earliest performances.
2. Will there be an Actor's Fund Benefit show at some time?
There were some changes from the first time I saw it to the opening night. But I would have a hard time being too specific, since I can hardly remember the gypsy dress!
Yes, there is an actor's fund benefit, Sunday, Sept 9 at 8 pm.
Oh my gosh! I'm overwhelmed. You guys are wonderful. I would love to go. Can I confess that going to a big city like NYC kind of scares me. But whatever you all want to do that would be great. Thanks again for your generosity! God Bless, Reniefran

Don't be afraid. NYC is awesome. You will love it.

Count me in for a contribution to help getReniefran to NYC for Grease. I could afford to go, but I have some other personal obligations that are keeping me in AZ, otherwise I'd would have already seen the show and be planning a return trip. If someone can figure out the logistics of how to do this, be sure to post them. She has been a faithful poster on this Board and Max's board as well and it would be wonderful to get her to NYC (I'll just have her promise to clap twice as hard... once for me).
