It is a telethon for Neuro Muscular Diseases, specifically Muscular Distrophy. Jerry Lewis started it eons ago and it has raised literally tens of millions probably billions by now for research and treatment. There are a lot of big name stars that donate their time to come and perform. Big businesses donate large sums. Just a wonderful humanitarian effort. Check it out who knows maybe we will just happen to tune in. But I want to warn you, it lasts the whole weekend, I think it ends at 6:00 on Labor Day so you could literally watch all day just for that one segment.
In our market, they are only airing the last half of the telethon. If anyone out there sees the Grease segment and can post it online, we would greatly appreciate it. If it is in the first half, we won't be able to watch it. Thanks!!
That's what I would think but on my DVR guide it says it starts at 1100 tonight on WOR. I'll just DVR the whole thing and watch for it after work tomorrow.
That's what I thought but we have Comcast in Jersey and it says 11 after the news tonight. I'll just DVR it from 9 pm to be safe. Thanks. Sometimes you can see some good things on the show. Once they had Conan from late night when he performed on the telethon way before he got famous. He did some Irish number seriously but in the look back it was hilarious. He used to be a singer.
They just came on the benefit and did You're the One That I Want...it's an absolutely awful karaoke backing track that they have to sing to. Certainly for a good cause, but they probably would have been better off just having the cast sing the whole thing a capella instead of using that track. Ugh.
Seriously, if you haven't seen the show live on Broadway, I would not recommend seeing that clip from the telethon as a preview of the show...I got chills - from how awful that karaoke track was. Shudders.
Mine just started a few minutes ago... Is this a repeat of the one that just aired in New York for NYC9758? Or is this a new thing for my area?... I don't know, I'm confused... lol
Another question.... there hasn't been any performances at all yet... is there supposed to be? Is this the right show? It says "MDA Jerry Lewis Telethon"
ETA: I REALLY don't think I'm watching the right thing... all I've been seeing are people taking phone calls.... do the performances come later or aren't they going to show them at all here?
Well I'm going to bed now and so far not one performance... or stage... or anything that looks like it would be coming up... I was going to upload, sorry guys... stupid station...
Thanks so much for telling us about this. My son and I got up at 6:00 am this morning to send my husband off to work. The telethon had just started in my market in Ohio. The segment aired at 6:45 am, so super and I got to watch it. We really enjoyed it. I did tape it on my DVR, but I have no idea how to get it online. Hopefully some other kind soul can get it uploaded. It was nice to have something fun to watch so early in the morning. Also, we had not watched the telethon in years. We just called in a donation. Nice way to start our day. I am so glad people on this board are so kind to give us a heads up on these things.
It was on 45 minutes after the telethon started here in Phoenix. it was FANTASTIC! I've watched it at least 5 times. It looks like "Sandy" is wearing a wig. Why?
Anybody going to be posting this on youtube? I tried to tape part of the telethon in hopes of catching it, but I was too late. Please somebody...it's like crack, and I'm addicted!
Okay, I have it on TIVO and will ask my husband to post record it and get it posted on youtube or Max's website. I have not clue on how to do it myself or I would have already posted it for you all.
Very glad someone can post it! I was feeling guilty as my taping is "trapped" in our DVR and I have no idea how to release it on the internet. I am happy everyone will be able to enjoy it. It is a fun clip.
Okay, the MDA performance is up on youtube. If someone wants to copy it here, that would be great. I dont know how to do that either.
I guess it takes a while for it to post on to youtube, but it has been loaded so look for it a little later. I am going to try to paste it here, but dont hold your breath.
Thank you! What fun! I had to watch it twice through just to see Max and Laura's performances, and now I need to go back again to watch their castmates'. Lindsay Mendez' smile was as big as mine through at least part of the clip.
Thanks so much for posting this. It gives a little preview of the show for those who may live too far away to get to see it. I am seeing the show next Wed. nite. Can't wait!
That was fabulous! I haven't seen the show, but it looks great to me. And that stuff I read in one of the reviews that Max and Laura had no chemistry. . . I saw chemistry right there on my computer. They're both great. Thanks for posting it.
Thanks for posting the telethon clip, Rachel... My Mom and I have already watched it three times and we're not done yet; please post it on Max's website when you can. Both Max and Laura have "grown" tremendously since the TV show. We didn't get to see too much of the rest of the cast in the clip, but they look super too.
Thanks to Max's Mom for the video! I loved it! And, I am so anxious to see the show in October. Imagine I will be one that could see the show over and over if distance and money weren't involved! I have been a Max and Laura fan from the very first TV show and I loved watching them grow on the show. Now it is great to hear all the wonderful comments from people who have already seen the play. Thanks to all who post!
That was no general karaoke track - that was a recording of the band used at the Atkinson.
The balance is all off...live in the theater you hear a lot more bass and drums. Sexy Sandy just isn't the same when there isn't a big Badumpumpdump rumbling the floorboards from the live band :)
I wonder if this is old though...there are a few vocal bits and a few choreography bits that have definitely been changed, which are noticeably missing in this video (mostly because they were so memorable up on stage). Laura takes it up an octave and rocks out for the line "feeeel your way," instead of singing it at the bottom of her range as she does in the MDA video, and there's a series of high kicks she does all around Danny.
Thanks for posting this "Max and Laura's performance on the MDA Telethon! " What a treat!Boy, it is great! of Max and Laura and it really showed their talent! I can't wait until Feb., 2008 to see them live on Broadway! They're "SIzzling," as David Ian would say! I like how their kisses at the end lasted awhile! To me they were as good as John Trivolta and Olivia Newton John! Of, course, I am prejudice, I am afraid, when it comes to Laura and Max since I watched them on the TV show and voted for them all the way to the end! I am glad they performed this scene which showed Laura and Max singing more and together than other samples I have seen described or posted of their Broadway Performances.
Wonderful performance! Thank for the post, Maxismylove. Is it my imagination or are Max's shoulders and upper arms expanding--greatly? He and Laura are both blessed with an abundance of charm and charisma. Max looks as though he is gaining a good deal of strength. This is good. Probably all those lifts with Laura! They both look grand, just grand! I can definitely see why "Max is your love!" What a great show.
I thought he looked bulkier too, but it may just be the shirt. I think they all have trouble keeping weight on at this point with all the dancing. At least they are done with rehearsals so that cuts down on about another 5 or 6 hours or jumping around for them. He is handsome though. Hehehehehe!!
