Hey, Does the cast of Grease go to the Stage Door and sign playbills and such? If so 1) where is the stage door (I haven't been to the theatre so I dunno) 2) Do they do it for both matinee and night performances?
If you're facing the theatre the stage door is to the right of the main doors. When you come out after the show there will be barricades set up around the door. So just find the crowd.
The cast signs before after all shows but you can't count on seeing everyone. The night I was there I didn't see Jenny Powers. Max and Laura come out last but you can't even always count on them. If they call out sick or something they won't be at the stage door.
On the Max board someone had posted they went to see the show and Max didn't perform that night. You can't always count on the main cast being on every night. Things happen so if you get there and Max or Laura isn't performing do yourself a favor and see the show anyway. There are a lot of talented understudies out there who will be stars someday. Give them the same respect you would give a regular cast member.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problems with seeing understudies! They are just as talented (if not even more talented) than the main cast. Seeing understudies gives you the ability to see a new take on a character. I was just curious if they come out..
As an actress myself, I give respect to all the actors. The show couldn't go on if it wasn't for the understudies or ensemble members. It would fall a part.
Wow, Eris, your suggestion favorably surprises me! I saw the show recently with two understudies--both "Frenchie" and "Doody" were out and their understudies did a fine job in their parts. There's a LOT of talent in this show to go see and a lot of great understudy talent as you said. But to answer the original question--Max and Laura do sign autographs at the stagedoor at every show unless they would be sick or have another obligation they must do right after the show. To my knowledge I think Max only missed the one recent show--otherwise they've been out there after every single show for at least a few minutes to a half hour or more. Have fun seeing the show!
And I've never seen a bigger crowd...this coming from someone who has witnessed mass hysteria in the form of Julia Roberts, Denzel Washington, Kevin Spacey, Nathan Lane/Matthew Broderick on Broadway.

It makes me sad when I hear about long lines at the refund windows because of an understudy. I saw Xanadu this summer and I had heard so many good things about Kerry Butler's performance. But when I got there Kerry was not performing. But had I left I'd have missed a wonderful performance by her understudy.

Anika Larson was really excellent in the role of Clio/Kira. Since I haven't seen Kerry I couldn't compare the two but I felt Anika did a wonderful job.

the stage door isn't too bad-when i went i had seen youtube videos of shrieking, screaming girls and i made up my mind not to go to the stage door because honestly, i didn't want to be another one of those "omigosh you're so hott!" girl types, but when i went, there was no screaming, just a small crowd, but it's totally cool. i was kind of sad though, when i got to the front and i was too scared to say anything except a "thank you so much" to laura and a "you were really great" to jenny powers. i tried waving at max, but he didn't see me :( ...lol.
Do you think Max and Laura will not stay out as long during the upcoming cold winter months? Standing out there for 10-15 min at a time could endanger their health... hope they got their flu shots!
Chilling the body too long, especially after the heat of performing, could stress the immune system and result in a respiratory breakdown. Once, after a concert by my favorite singer, I went around to the stagedoor, and she was signing autographs from inside her rented limouzine. Flu shots are a hoax. The serum peddlers don't have a clue what strain will be coming, or if one will come at all.
Ray, You're only partially correct. Flu shots do NOT cover all strains of flu. But, they ARE formulated against the strains scientists feel are MOST LIKELY to attack in any given season. I guess I object to your use of the word "hoax". There is real science behind the choice of which strains are to be immunized against. Just about every year flu shots protect many in our society, especially the immune compromised. Are they for everyone? Absolutely not. However, in my opinion, the very young, the very old, medical workers and those who are immune compromised should seriously consider getting their yearly shot. I've had mine this year. I'll now get off my soapbox.
doc.......... Thanks for the info. I should be more considerate of the many people who can't do much, or anything, about the state of their immune system. I have the luxury of being able to make it my primary concern.
As of Sept. 2007, the FDA approved an intranasal vaccine spray for use in healthy non-pregnant adults up to age 49 and in certain younger age groups for those without wheezing disorders. Although the vaccine is targeted toward certain high risk groups, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the vaccine for anyone who wishes to reduce his/her risk of contracting influenza or modifying the risks associated with influenza, ie, pneumonia. Symptoms can be severe enough to keep one out of commission for several weeks so this is no disorder to "sneeze" at!
I agree, singingdoc, that certain new strains are included in the 2007 vaccine which is based upon scientific studies. Every year, during the beginning of cold weather, small children become prone to a higher incidence of respiratory infections when they are confined to a closed-in space such as the classroom and classmates are sneezing, coughing (without covering their noses/mouths) thus often infecting those around them. They often carry the infection home to parents and siblings. I would think that in the closed-in space of the small theater that our stars would have increased susceptibility. Covering the nose/mouth during sneezing and coughing greatly reduces the spread of infectious agents as does standing a distance away from those who fail to initiate simple precautions tp prevent the spread of infection. Just sharing a few reminders for our beloved stars, especially those from Phoenix, or other warm climate states.
