Did you hear Kristin Chenoweth as Olive Snook sing "Hopelessly Devoted" on "Pushing Daisies" tonight? What a powerhouse! I appreciated her Annabeth on "West Wing" and can only imagine what a total delight she was as Glinda on Broadway.
I was lucky enough to catch Kristin's Tony-Award winning portrayal of Sally Brown in "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" back in March 1999. She's an amazing performer!

I love that show. The guy who stars in it reminds me of Max for some reason. Did you get the feeling the floor waxer was supposed to look like Danny Zuko?
There are three clips out there already... here's the link for the longest. http://youtube.com/watch?v=y_lSSt_wG9E If someone thought the floor polisher guy was supposed to be a Danny, he sure wasn't a Max !!
Weird but when I played the clip Max was singing Sandy. Anyway I was joking before but now that I hear this actress sing...though she is different, she really does not hold a candle to Laura.
Yeah, actually, she does. Kristin is a wonderful, Tony Award winning actress. I adore Laura so much and I love her voice but I think Kristin can, and does, hold a candle to her.

I guess I just didn't like her version then. I listened to it again, thinking maybe I missed something, but I don't think so. I imagine she can sing with greater range and with more feeling , but that rendition was too flat for my taste.
I vaguely knew the name, but had never seen her or heard her......
She's incredible, exactly what I go nuts over, a free-wheeling comedienne. Her HD was not meant to be a serious portrayal of Sandy, so any comparison with Laura is apples and tangerines.
Her "Glitter and Be Gay", with the Boston Pops, is hilarious, dazzling, and perfect in every way. The only opera star whose interpretation can compare is Diana Damrau, one of the current greats.

Exactly! You can't compare Kristin and Laura. Kristin is a Tony award winner with years of experience under her belt while Laura is a "green" young'un. Any comparision is unfair to both performers.
Kristin's "Til There Was You" from the Music Man always gets me right in the gut. She does it beautifully.

I did get to see her and Idina in Wicked when it opened and she was incredible and so very funny. I cant imagine anyone doing the role bette than her. Kristin is a comedic actor/singer/dancer and that came through in her HD song last night. You cannot compare the two performances.

I couldn't agree with you more! I also agree that to compare the two is inappropriate. Chenoweth is a consummate vocal and theatrical artist who is also a fabulous performer. Laura is just beginning her professional career. We need to give her time. But, I would not expect her path to duplicate Chenoweth's as their voices are quite different. We'll have to wait to see what happens with Laura.
One last thought. Just knowing what we know, what a great opportunity it would be for anyone to have the chance to perform on the same stage with either of them. As someone once said, "It is always good to die in good company."
Never, ever did I intend to compare Kristin Chenoweth to Laura nor to discredit Laura's ability. "Pushing Daisies" is Roald Dahl-like...totally different vibe than "Grease". In my opinion Kristin and Laura each have interpreted "HD" in ways perfect to their respective settings.
(And yes, it's easy for me to imagine Max in the role of the protagonist Ned.)
I'm sorry if it was my message you were referring to as I never said you were comparing them and didn't think you were. My response was in reference to others who were making favorite judgements between the two which can't reasonably be done unless one is just talking about one's own private feelings.

As was my response but I wasn't going to say that. I've been snarky lately lol

I don't know if it's Max, but I do get a vibe that the actor reminds me of somebody. I thought this the first time I saw his face on the cover of our tv magazine, but can't figure out who. In any case, Lee Pace is a very nice looking man.
Dear Mrs N............ My "apples and tangerines" comment was not directed at you in any way whatsoever. The thread had gone astray, as threads tend to do, and I went with the flow.
Why was she even singing this song if it wasn't in a "Grease" context?

I was comparing their renditions of that particular song. I liked Laura's version and thought it was better than Chenoweths. And yes, they are different which is why I saiid I thought Chenoweth probably could have done it in a wider ranger and with more feeling. But she didn't. So I will clarify....to me she did not hold a candle to Laura in that instance.
After being pursued for a year by Peter Gelb, General Manager of The Met, Chenoweth has signed to make her Metropolitan Opera debut in "The Ghosts of Versailles" in 2010.
She is well credentialed with a Master's in opera performance. He thinks that she will knock them dead and bring in her multitude of New York fans. He's a businessman, after all.
Of course I saw it, that's why I watch Pushing Daises duh! lol I love Kristin, she's definitely one of my favorite performers. As favorite Glinda, she's tied with Christina DeCicco, both are beyond amazing in anything.
I agree.... Not being in the 8-14 demographic, I can't imagine any other reason to watch this show. I transferred HD to DVD, so I could erase the show. Her mature, nuanced interpretation reveals the song in a new light. And her "Glitter and Be Gay" on YouTube is in a class by itself.
I have no idea who DeCicco is, and couldn't figure out the DeCicco/Matlock confusion on YouTube.

Well it just might for me. I'm still undecided about his show, my husband too, but our 16-year old daughter loved the first episode. We taped Wednesday's show for her and will all watch it together tonight.

Broadway star Raúl Esparza the Company Tony nominee, who will be seen later this season in the revival of The Homecoming makes his debut on the new ABC series "Pushing Daisies" Oct. 17.
Esparza plays the recurring role of Alfredo Aldarisio, "a salesman who specializes in homeopathic remedies for depression," an ABC spokesperson told Playbill.com. The actor will again appear on the series in November.
In the episode titled "The Fun in Funeral," Aldarisio offers Chuck (Friel) free samples, which she bakes into pies for her aunts, in the hopes of bringing a little sunshine into their lives.
