The League of American Theaters and Producers released its 2006-7 demographic report yesterday, and the standout fact about Broadway theatergoers was that most are not from around these parts. Tourists accounted for 65 percent of Broadway ticket buyers, up from 57 percent last year. Almost 2 million of the 12 million Broadway ticket buyers were foreigners, up more than 44 percent from last year and an all-time high. At the same time, there has been a decline in local theatergoers. The number of ticket buyers from New York was at its lowest in seven seasons; the number of those from the New York suburbs declined for the eighth season. Thanks to shows like The Color Purple, Chicago and The Lion King, Broadway audiences are becoming a little less white 26 percent of theatergoers were not white, a 56 percent increase from five years ago. Otherwise, much was the same as last season: the average age of the Broadway theatergoer was 41, and average household income was $98,900, both slight decreases from last years report.

But not necessarily a profile of those in the Grease audience?
