We went to Grease Thursday, Nov8th. Just in time before the strike. We were so lucky. Before the show we ate at the restaurant right next door. It was real good. The show was awesome. It was our first night in NYC so everything was new and colorful. The actors did a great job. I thought (Jan) Linday Mendez showed a lot of energy. She was great... Doody (Ryan Patrick Binder) was a doll. After the show we walked down the street with him and he was so friendly and talkative. It is neat to see that when they leave that stage door they are just people like us walking down the street. Patty Simcox (Allison Fisher) was real friendly also. They all signed autographs and were great about pictures. Then Max and Laura......they both came out together and went around to everyone. I got lots of pictures of them. Told Laura she shares her birthday with my youngest daughter. She smiled and thought that was cool.
I feel bad for the people that are out of work right now since the strike. I guess it gives them a little break. I imagine without pay???? That could be bad.....
We loved NYC and can't wait to do it again. It was a quick four days but did a lot. We also went to Radio City Music Hall and saw the Christmas Spectacular. It was beautiful and fun. Amazing how those ladies can all stay together.
I will definelty do more broadway shows next time. The timing just didn't work out for us. At least our tickets were for our first night there.
Glad you had a great time. VERY glad that you got to see it before the strike. I was actually thinking about your trip and hoping that you weren't left out in the cold.
Tthey are being paid, provided they sign in with the union deputy or stage manager. $406 from the Equity strike fund, same as unemployment rate. It ain't much, but every little bit helps. Many have taken temp jobs to pass the time.
Ain't it a hoot to see the actors walk down 8th Avenue and become "normal?" My favorite is bumping into those I know (and those I don't) at the sushi place everyone frequents.
It all reminds me of the old Sondheim song, "Another Hundred People." "It's a city of strangers, some come to work, some to play, a city of strangers, some come to stare, some to stay..."
I'm so happy for you!! I don't know how I'd have reacted if I traveled that far and have to miss the show. I mean, I'd understand the situation, but it'd still burn. Can't imagine all the disappointed people, especially the younger ones. Glad to hear you got home safely too!
