i saw it thursday night (1/3). it's in the same place as the other one was, on 47th st. just east of broawayand instead of it being the picture of max and laura that's on the program, it's of them in the show's final scene where laura has her knee up against max and he's holding her leg next to a quote that says something like 'the most successful musical of the year - time magazine'. and then there's a shot of the t-birds from one scene and the pink ladies from another and a scene from the dance contest and a shot of the teen angel all collaged together. it's the same collage that's on or right next to the stage door at the theater.
i like the original billboard better but the quote (which i might not have quoted exactly, but it's close) is pretty powerful advertising, so i understand why they'd want to post it. plus, it puts the whole cast on a major broadway billboard, so that's nice.
I'd like to know the rental cost for that billboard. It must be astronomical. It's great that they came up with a positive sounding quote, and from Time Mag no less.
I saw a new commercial for Grease this morning too. Scenes from the show and the names of songs to remind people what songs came from Grease. I thought it was a good commercial.
i'm going to see phantom on the 16th (and maybe student rush the grease matinee...i would love to see it again) so i'll be sure to take a picture of the new billboard for everyone to see
Grease doens't have student rush, just standing room for $31. It is on TKTS, though.
They don't have student rush published anywhere, but they do have it. I have spoken to them at the theatre about it (212.719.4099). They only offer it on Tuesday - Thursday performances and it is only if seats are available. The seats go for $36.50 (cash only and must show ID). You can call in the morning and reserve your ticket or get one at the theatre (calling is worth it - it takes two seconds and assures you of your seat). I have not done it yet but have contacted them about it twice.
My friends and I have tickets for Phantom of the Opera next Wednesday evening and I was planning on going to the city in the morning to take some dance classes at Broadway Dance Center. There are two classes I want to take and the second one ends at 1:00. My friends can't make it in until 5:00 so I am going to be on my own all day. So I may attend Grease using student rush or take more dance classes. I was also contemplating other shows, but Max and Laura won't be in Grease forever and I want to see them again so badly. I saw an early preview performance of the show and the entire cast was excellent already...but I would love to see how much better they got since then.
First person to post a pic of the new billboard gets a prize!! Just kidding....I'm just really excited to see what it looks like, l was in NY to see the Little Mermaid (AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) a few weeks ago and the billboard was the same.
Great pic!!!!! Those rude bus drivers! Striking design...looks like it really stands out from the others. It's so tall, they couldn't get any light on the convertible and cast. "The #1 Musical of the Year" and Grease really pop out!
The billboard has a horrible location. Of course on the website here it looks great, but from mostly anywhere on Broadway, unless you are really looking for it, would typically miss it. It took me 3 nights of going through times square at least 10 times a night doing my job before I discovered it.
