Backstage Tour?!?! A stupid question....
Permalink Closed

I know this is probaly the stupidest question to ask but is there any possible way to get a backstage tour or personal meet and greet? I have heard a good dozen of stories about it and seen twice as many pictures of fans backstage and was wondering how you can make that a reality. I know this is also going to sound completely idiotic but I consider myself one of Max and Laura's biggest fans and if I can somehow get backstage I am willing to do anything to have the opportunity to go backstage, considering for this trip just to see them, I am spending my savings....

I know during the BC/EFA fundraising time a backstage tour was one of the things you could purchase. Other than that I haven't heard about anyone not attached to someone in the production getting a backstage tour.

If Max and Laura read your heartfelt outpouring, I'm sure they will be glad to meet'n'greet at the stagedoor, and even break the rule and pose for pictures with you.

There's nothing glamourous or magical about backstage, believe me... It all happens onstage.

Especially at the Atkinson Theater....where once you enter and take 2 steps, you're on stage. Nothin' to it. Don't ruin the illusion.

Backstage tours aren't overly exciting. I was backstage at the Broadhurst a few months ago and the highlight was the fact that Max von Essen and I had to slide past each other to get through a door. He's pretty. lol

You need to be on a guest list to be admitted backstage. In order to get a tour (an it isn't much since it's a very small backstage!) you need to know someone who will give you the tour.

Asking Max and Laura to go back inside the theater after a show isn't fair to them. If it is an evening show, they are tired, hungry and want to get home. If it is in the afternoon, they need to get something to eat and rest up for the next show.

I have been backstage once. It was nothing spectacular.

alright, that was kind of a downer

I would never of asked them to go back after the show, I was just hoping before the show or something and honestly I dont really care how small the theatre is, I would still love it and be amazes :)

So sorry - I didn't mean to bring you down. Before the show, the cast is getting their hair done, putting on makeup and costumes and warming up vocally and stretching. Most of the tours are after the show.

I am sure you will have a wonderful time, get great pictures of the cast and many autographs to make the day complete.

Just to throw my little word in, true, backstage isn't anything glamorous, but it's such a unique & thrilling experience! I knew a cast member from a show that closed; when she saw how I excited I was to meet her for the first time, she grabbed my hand and took me backstage...it was so special though, just to have been back there! I'd assume that if one of the non-lead cast members knew who you were from repeat visits or such, they'd be pleased to lead you backstage for a minute. Maybe that is how I got back...my friend was the lead's stand-by, and hadn't gone on...so she was perky as ever! LOL. Carry-on :)

Don't lose your enthusiasm, sltgreaser! It IS fun to go backstage when you're curious and want to know how everything works. It's true this theatre is small and truly not very much to see but you can still better imagine things like where the actors change, how are the props and scene sets stored etc., when you've had a chance to see it all. It's also great fun to stand on the stage and look out at the audience and imagine yourself there someday. Once Laura was on your side of the fence and many times had chances to go on stages and picture what it would be like to be an actor on that stage! Who knows? I think that kind of "vision" helps fuel a persons passion and desire to get there someday. Or for people like me, I never had that particular dream, but I still enjoy it and feel it helps me really appreciate all the mechanics of a show so much more than I otherwise would. You could try asking at the box office if there happens to be any groups there on the day that you will be attending who might be doing a tour afterwards. Maybe they'd let you come along if there are.

Thanks Jane! I will definetely try to see if I can go along on a tour after the show - I know I will never make it because I dont have the voice (but I like to think I do, especially when singing along to Legally Blonde) but it has been my dream for as long as I can remember to be on broadway and considering how much Ill be paying for college starting this fall, I am thinking my trip to New York is going to be a once in a lifetime ordeal so I just wanted to get the most out of it = D
