It says she'll do the weekend performances, but who will play Sandy the other days?

Since Laura's never had to miss a show for any reason yet, I'm doubly glad she gets to go on vacation next week--both for her and Nate's relaxation and enjoyment and also for her understudies to get a chance to do the role! Some of you know that Laura and Nate had their first kiss on stage when they were suddenly put in as understudies during a performance of Alladin at the Children's Theatre in Minneapolis. Laura was Princess Jasmine's understudy and Nate was Alladin's understudy. The two regular leads accidently royally ran into each other early in one show and hurt each other bad enough for both of them to go to the hospital! The show was stopped for 15 minutes and Nate and Laura were both put in as their understudies. The whole cast reportedly choked up watching Nate and Laura and their just budding romance play out on the stage! Didn't have to pretend any chemistry there! Ahhh, such sweet stories those two have!

Talking about chemistry.........

How about a tour of Grease starring Laura and Nate! They could be promoted as a real-life romantic team, which indeed they are, giving the show an exciting new gimmick... Cinderella and her real-life Prince Charming!

When do tickets go on sale?

Ray, words straight from my mind to your lips! Their chemistry could wake the dead! And it would be one more unbelievable tale for their book of true life fairy tales. Max has been the greatest friend Laura could have had to do the role with and she has adored working with him every minute. But if for any reason he decides not to tour and Laura does tour, who could hold more public interest and intrigue in the role than Nate? I'd probably buy a ticket to go see it every night they're in Minneapolis! (Of course, I probably would anyway no matter who is Danny....but I'm just saying....!)

That sentence is so perfect, I had to repeat it.

I agree that only Max could bring in more people. I believe that much of his individual fanbase would be lost, if he were absent. However, the Laura/Nate combo would energize her fanbase and stimulate a new contingent of fantasy seekers.

Laura's name on top is not only appropriate because of name recognition, but because, in this production, as in the movie, Sandy is the central, motivating character. Somehow, the character of Danny has attained mythical proportions, but he's really just an ordinary, simple-minded, horny 18-year-old, whose only claim to fame is being a pretty good amateur ballroom dancer. And when Sandy snaps her fingers, he jumps. Could Nate handle that? (just kidding).

Ray, you make me laugh! Interestingly enough, I think Nate and Laura aren't real sure how it would work to co-star together--not that the uncertainty would center particularly on playing these two Grease characters--but more just wondering how that would be! You know, husband-wife, now co-starts together too? Is it better to not do that? They don't know. They've been in a show together before and that seemed great--but they both played separate parts and only co-starred as understudies once together in Aladdin. They likely wouldn't get any kind of CHOICE in this casting matter anyway as the producers will cast the show the way they see fit. However, I'm just the Mom and I'm just saying I think it would be a VERY attractive option to the public to see Nate and Laura together if Max decides another direction. And I personally would get a hoot out of it too. Nate has a great sense of humor and plenty of confidence. I think he could handle chasing the starlet just fine! Can Laura handle the teenage girls googling over her husband? That's the next question. If it's anything like how they google over Max that could be an interesting dynamic. I think on stage and in the theatre they would just have to be professionals playing their parts--whichever parts those are. When they go home, they can be husband and wife. I think they'd successfully draw those lines if they work together and would enjoy themselves. But first of all...everyone has to make their decisions and/or negotiate successfully working deals and we haven't arrived at that yet...so much is still unknown. This week Laura and Nate get to go relax on a little vacation so let the world go away for a few days!

I certainly don't envy their decision. When you're on a tour you don't get much private time and each person needs some time to themselves - even in the best marriages. I'm not sure there is a "right" answer to this because whatever decision they make will have its moments of "wrongness". I wish them both luck.

I'm a strong advocate of touring - as everyone already knows. It's great preparation for a theatrical career - when the jobs run low in NY, there's always a touring company.

And the Papermill Playhouse, Goodspeed Musicals, and the other regional Equity houses.

Whether or not a husband and wife should tour together - it worked for the Lunts. But they were an older couple. For twenty year olds?

it can work. Jose met his wife on tour and they have done two different national tours together. As a matter of fact, it can be an adventure, seeing all sorts of new places together. As far as down time, the guys on tour go and do "guy" things and the females go shopping or movies or whatever.

It can work and it's not forever!

Playing video games (someone has a console, believe me!), going to the gym (most hotels have one) and just hanging out together doing nothing, guy things!

Laura and Nate got back from there vacation and Laura was talking that they might go see the show as an audience member last night. She had arranged to take a full week off from the show so was not due to perform again until tomorrow night (Tuesday). It is an extremely rare and fun treat for a cast member to actually get to sit in the audience and see their show. If they did decide to do that, I hope they enjoyed it and started the standing ovation! Ha!

I dunno...if I was in the audience and saw the star who I came to see in the audience and not on stage, I'd be pretty upset.

I'm not criticizing. Lord knows, if I were in a show, I'd love to see what's going on on stage from the audience. However, it be better to do it once you finish your run...

That said, I hope they had a very nice and relaxing vacation. And time to take 5 minutes to smell the roses.

I suppose that could be a point, Mr. E, but I would speculate they could make them quite inconspicuous if so desired. Maybe they'd hide them in the sound booth or something like that. Most theatres I've been in have some kind of location like that for part of the technical workings of the show. They wouldn't have to sit front row center!

If this had been unannounced I might agree but since this wasn't a last minute understudy situation, I think it is a little different.
