Need I say more? He gets my vote. This face is gonna rock the house. But I am sure there are a few of you out there who have a different opinion so post your choice for DZ.

Oh ya, you can find him in this picture! Love his voice, "Footloose" was one of my favorites. Sorry that bumper sticker was a little small here is another one of him.

Laura's mom posts here doesn't she? I wonder if she has an in?

Yes Laura's mom does post here and her name is LauraMom. I am sure that Laura has to know by now perhaps you should ask her the next time she is on. (LauraMom that is)

Mia, remember how all of the Danny contestants had nicknames on GYTOTIW? In this picture he looks like "Great Guns Danny"

Things have certainly quieted down around here. I am curious to know why none on the Greasers have an opinion about Derek Keeling as a possible new Danny?

OK, I'll bite........
Derek was the obvious choice from Day One. I can only give my reactions. I kept waiting, week after week, for him to deliver the talent to back up the look. It never came, not a glimmer. Still, I was surprised that such a hunk finally fell out of favor with the panel and the public. I can't imagine how they would justify casting him as Danny now.

Ray OUCH! I really thought after the first two weeks that he had the show sewn up, then the duet
killed him and NBC made sure of it. I still love his voice and I think he has a lot of appeal. I have met him and he is genuinely a nice guy. Some friends saw him in Sarasota in "Tale of Two Cities" and said he was fabulous. Kathleen Marshall did say to Derek the night he was eliminated that "we will work together again" or something to that affect. Perhaps sooner than later. Who knows.

I don't know. She is working on a new show though for BW.

Just my opinion here....

I tend to agree with Ray, but it wasn't just Derek.  It was true of most of the Danny contestants.  Max was the only one who was bringing any emotion to his performances and giving you the acting needed for the role.

While I think Derek, and indeed, all of the kids on the show are very talented, they were mostly not right for Danny or Sandy.  Derek was right for Danny five years ago, as was Austin.  If you wanted Danny as a college senior, they would have been fine.  But for me, Danny needed to be someone who looked like he was in high school.  (And yes, the rest of the cast looks older, but at least our Danny and Sandy look like high school seniors.)

I think Derek will find more roles that will be a great fit for him.  Even if he isn't transferring to Broadway with "A Tale of Two Cities", I think that kind of role suits him.  And there are many more roles that he will fit and I think that's why Kathleen Marshall felt they would be working together many times in the future.

Well grannygreaser that is an interesting observation. However Derek has done more "Grease" type roles than dramatic roles. He actually did Grease, All Shook Up and he was going to do Bye Bye Birdie this summer but changed his plans. It is interesting how so many people can watch the same show and their perception is completely different. I really love that. However I am certain that there are people on this board who have more than a passing interest in Max and Laura.
I do agree that Max did a great job acting while he was singing and I did enjoy most of his performances. It is certainly going to be interesting to see who the producers choose this time, since there won't be anyone to vote.

Ah, yes, the duet...... Unfortunately, he followed it up a week or two later with just a minor crack in another duet, as he was going for the high note. Hardly noticeable, really, but Jacobs and Ian grabbed hold of it and used it to forward their campaign against him. As I'm sure you know, a whole lotta pimping goes on in these "reality" shows.

With all the great reports and reviews of Derek's work, it occurs to me that, given his charm and sweetness, he may not have the competitive edge to excel under pressure. Another thing that may have weakened his resolve was that he was auditioning for a role that he had done successfully and now outgrown... Just guessing. An actor's life is a tough one.

During the finale of the show they also revealed that Derek and Juliana were the judges picks to be Danny and Sandy after Grease Academy. That was where they actually auditioned. There they did scenes from the show, danced, and sang the music from the show. They were chosen from the real audition before the show turned into a popularity contest. So you know Kathleen believes in him as a great choice for Danny.

I do remember that. Derek, Laura, Ashley, and Max were the only one's never in the bottom two. Well...you never know what could happen now that the producers get to choose for themselves.

Well...as far as the popular vote is concerned you always have to make a few things into account. Consider If contestant A have 1000 fans that support them and contestant B has 500 fans. YTOTIW let people vote as many times as they wanted. Let's say all of Contestant A's fans were an older crowd that only would vote 1 or 2 times and contestant B's fans were much younger and stayed on the line for the full two hours voting as many times as they could. Contestant B would win even though they had less fans. When you let people vote as many times as they can the stats can be distorted. I'm not saying that this happened. I'm just saying that the "popular vote" doesn't go exactly hand in hand with ticket sales. At this point Grease is just selling because it's Grease anyway. That show just sells everywhere. I think the producers are more concerned with getting performers that can do the job well. The show will sell itself. It always has.

Derek and Juliana were Kathleen's choices "after Grease academy". I also remember Jim saying that Allie came close to his vision that he had of Sandy when writing the show. Personally I am most proud of the fact that my girl Laura was never in the bottom two :) To me, she outshone every other girl there, no one could top that lovely voice!!!! She is the epitome of the perfect Sandy, and that fact is driven home once you actually see her on Broadway :) And Max is the perfect compliment to her, they are WONDERFUL together and I feel so lucky I've gotten to see them twice now!!!!! biggrin.gif

Best of luck to all the "Grease"biggrin kids in their future endeavors! They are all very deserving of great careers. If any of you get a chance, drop on over to Hairspray! Great, high energy, wonderful show!

I have to agree with you!  I loved Ashley on the show!  I voted week after week for her!  I would have loved to have seen her win!  I am so glad that she made it to Broadway anyway, as that is exactly where she should be performing.  She is amazingly talented and deserves to be in a Broadway show.  I have since seen her twice in "Hairspray!"  She is excellent as Amber!  I think what is also so special about Ashley too is that she has remained such a sweet person.  I saw her on a freezing cold day in January, but despite the cold weather and being sick, Ashley performed brilliantly and came out afterwards to sign autographs for fans.  She is a true star!biggrin.gif

I always thought out of all the contestants Max and Ashley Spencer had the best chemistry on stage. Not sure if it was a Sandy/Danny chemistry, but they played off each other very well. I voted for them both, but by the finale, I had changed my pick to Laura instead. I loved Ashley, but she was a little too strong for a sweet demure Sandy in my opinion. My second favorite Danny was Chad, but I think he's in a show right now, right?
