American Idol Season 5 Winner Taylor Hicks a Hit on Broadway http://www.thecelebritycafe.com/features/17714.html

Grease has been extremely popular, largely in part to Hickss performances.
Taylor Hicks, the season five winner of the wildly popular reality program, American Idol, is currently playing Teen Angel in the Broadway performance of Grease. Though reviews for the musical have been far from positive, it has been an extremely strong commercial success thus far.
The New York Post is reporting that Hickss appearances have been worth an astounding $150,000 in extra ticket sales per week. The American Idol stars summer gig not only includes singing, but has also featured Hicks playing the harmonica on stage.
In an interview conducted with Broadway.com, Hicks was asked whether or not he was enjoying his first taste of performing on Broadway.
Hicks displayed his exuberance over the opportunity by saying, I love it! I think the part suits me perfectly, and it allows me to get a toe wet on Broadway. It's a great way for me to start exploring the idea of an acting career and learn what Broadway is all about.
The American Idol winner debuted as Teen Angel on Broadway back on June 6 and will continue playing the role throughout the summer.
If you are interested in visualizing a performance of Hicks from the June 10 production of Grease, check out the following video:

Thanks Aragall. I love that video too, very clear and easy to see. I like the way he shakes his booty when the cone gets to the bottom. He does an excellent Teen Angel IMO. He and Frenchie are really cute in this and I like the background singers too.

And good news it is, thanks Aragall for posting the latest Buzz about Taylor
That video is amazing and that part does suit Taylor. Frenchy just stares up at Taylor while he's singing to her, she does a really good job with the part (and doesn't faint). Kirsten is the perfect Frenchy she has everything down perfectly.
It seems Katie Holmes is much better at selling magazines than she is at selling Broadway tickets. In today's Post Michael Riedel reports that her upcoming Broadway debut, in Arthur Miller's All My Sons, just isn't the draw that producers had hoped for. Despite brokers' expectations, the girl is no Julia Roberts, "who pretty much sold out Three Days of Rain in One Day of Rain." (To this we can only say: Duh. Who expected Joey Potter to bring in the fans of Shelby Eatenton Latcherie?) Riedel explains that Holmes, unlike the last Mrs. Tom Cruise (and unlike Daniel Radcliffe in Equus a few blocks away), doesn't get naked onstage. Also, the economy isn't great these days: "People aren't shelling out $110 for a play anymore," one broker says. "It doesn't matter who's in it." (This explanation we don't buy, mainly because of two words in last week's column: Taylor Hicks.)

**pulls out checkbook to verify that yes, people will pay $110 or MORE to see a Broadway Grease Production featuring Taylor Hicks**
Thanks Aragall for the post and link. I hadn't seen this article yet, and it has made me do this--------------

I have to admit, I have a girl crush on Kirsten Wyatt. I think she is the cutest little thing. I just adore her innocent little, "What?" after Taylor sings the line about the hooker.
Now....shaking off the girl crush.....As for Taylor's bootay shake....just step over me when I hit the floor. I have re-run that video so many times. I was lurking at AI a couple of days ago in a thread about "Who had IT from the beginning?" They should have posted this video in that thread. That would have answered the question.

Another great review, thanks for posting it Aragall ! If something makes you happy as this play obviously does for so many of us,the price of the tickets is well worth the rewards ! I agree 100% about working hard for the money and splurging once and awhile !
I agree with what the article said. Taylor Hicks is perfect for this small part on Broadway. I think that it\'s his true calling. Maybe now he\'ll give up trying to make records and focus on what he\'s capable of.
Start out on the bottom and work your way to the top. Start out on the top and the only place to go is down.

Normally, I wouldn't take sides on these boards and just remain a lurker but wow, you just dissed the same role that has been performed by the likes of Chubby Checker, John Farnham (Little River Band), Frankie Avalon, Jennifer Holliday (Grammy winner - also has a new album coming out this year), and Al Jarreau (7 time grammy winner). Heck, I think even Richard Gere was an understudy for this role. If memory serves I think it was one of his first acting roles. How does the phrase go - There are no small parts just trolls with small ... uh ... minds.
Well for the record, it will now and forever more be listed in the same sentence as those great actors in any broadway database since they all played Teen Angel. As to whether Taylor Hicks is the same caliber as the rest of these actors, I have no idea. I haven't seen the play yet but plan too. I have considered your opinion as to his talents and weighed them carefully and yet I still plan on going. However, I thank you for your kind warning.

Thanks for bringing that over here!! OMG! What a great reception NYC is giving him and rightfully so! The guy is single-handedly winning over thousands of casual and serious theater goers, isn't he? That's what *stars* do! ;)
Undoubtedly, producers are making notes on his drawing power and how he is bringing in $150,000 more per week to Grease. How wonderful for everyone!!
Taylor, along with the other cast members of Grease, is filling the seats and he's been getting a lot of positive press. This is a great start of an acting career if that's the route he choses to go. He's getting rave reviews in the real world.
