"Idol" Finalist Maroulis to Star in Off-Broadway's Rock of Ages

Here's to hoping they let Matt Hydzik keep the role for a bit and not stunt cast.  Matt's Kenickie is not as "tough" as Matt Saldivar's but it's still a great portrayal.

I've read he loves this opportunity, but wants to work on his new cd and focus on his tour next year. smile.gif But whatever he decides to do, his fans will back him up, as usual.smile.gif

If he renews the ticket prices won't go down next month like many of us have been hoping. That's really been my biggest issue with all of this. Ticket prices went from $60-70 to $97 before taxes and fees. The current discount code is set to expire on September 7 which, as many of you know, is Taylor's last day. Other shows stunt cast without raising the prices. If Hairspray can keep the prices the same with Lance Bass I don't see why Grease can't do it with Taylor.

They didn't raise ticket prices, they just lowered the amount of discount you can get for the tickets. In any case, the fall duldrums come and no matter who is in the show, discounts will be available.

It's cheap only if you can stand through the whole show.

Eris -

I was surprised to read your post regarding Taylor staying - "If he renews the ticket prices won't go down next month like many of us have been hoping. That's really been my biggest issue with all of this."

I thought your biggest issue was that when you went to see the show, you didn't like Taylor's performance (per your recap of the show, and your answer to the question that followed about how you'd rather not say anything if it wasn't good.) I'm just paraphrasing here. I don't remember your exact words, but that was what I got out of it, so I'm wondering why ticket prices would be the issue, and not that you'd like someone else playing the role.

This isn't the first time I've brought up the change in the discount code in relation to Taylor. Before he started it was 50-60% off and they changed it to 20% off after his opening night. The current code is slated to end on 9/7 which is the very day Taylor leaves. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Other shows can can stunt cast without changing the discount code. Some, like Legally Blonde, even offer discount codes promoting their new star.

I don't remember which threads but I have mentioned this numerous times on the board.

I know this is not always possible for you, but you can always try TKTS since I hear that Grease has been there a number of times.
