This is only slightly off-topic. Bets Malone played Natalie to Derek's Chad in All Shook Up back in March. The Marvelous Wonderettes played a record-setting 19 month run at the El Portal Theatre. Previews start on Friday, August 29 and the show officially opens on Sunday, September 14.
I thought some of the other Derek supporters on the board might be interested in the news.
Rather than starting a new thread I'm updating this one. It's just been announced that four of Derek's All Shook Up castmates have joined the Happy Days tour. The very show where Derek played Fonzie in a reading in LA.
The cast of Happy Days - A New Musical also includes Cynthia Ferrar as Mrs. Cunningham, John Massey as Mr. Cunningham, Steven Booth (Glory Days on Broadway) as Richie Cunningham, Chris Fore as Potsie, Felica Finley (The Wedding Singer on Broadway) as Pinky, Barry Pearl as Arnold, Eddy Rioseco as Chachi, Whitney Bashor as Joanie, Molly Alverez as Lori Beth, plus Justin Duval, Gabrielle Hatchett, Matt Merchant, Jaclyn Miller, Jill Morrison, Leah Sprecher Jeff Summer and Matt Walker.
In a related note Barry Pearl played Doody in the movie version of Grease!
Also, I'm going to see Wonderettes tonight.

Oh my gosh you guys! If you're in the NYC area you have to see this show! It was so great - I absolutely loved it. The cast and they sing the timeless songs beautifully. See this show - tell your friends!

It took me a few days but here're my thoughts on the show:
I arrived at the theatre around 7:30ish and I was taken to my seat in row K. I was very excited for the show to start because I had been looking forward to seeing The Marvelous Wonderettes for quite some time. For those of you who don't know the show is about a high school prom in 1958. Four seniors - Betty Jean, Suzy, Missy, and Cindy Lou - known as the Marvelous Wonderettes are performing for their classmates. Through the night they sing all sorts of songs from the time period - Secret Love, Mr. Lee, Lollipop, Lipstick on Your Collar, Sincerely, etc. Songs that I'm very nostalgic for. I knew I'd love this show - and I did!
The show is enchanting and part of what makes it so fun are the characters and the four actresses playing them. What makes the show so fun is the fact that every one of us probably knew people like the Wonderettes. Cindy Lou's the pretty one who knows she's the pretty one, Missy's the teacher's pet, Betty Jean (BJ) is the tough one, and Suzy is the goofy one.
There's some audience participation which I only partly knew about and that added to the silly fun element of the show and the entire second act is a total surprise that I didn't even see coming and won't reveal. You'll just have to go see the show yourself.
Go see this show. Take your mom. Take everyone. See it because it's an absolute blast!

I also saw the new Off-Broadway show called The Marvelous Wonderettes which is about a close harmony girl group in the late '50s, and then ten years later. I can't wait for the CD because the singing is great. One of my favorite singers, Farah Alvin, is in the show and she goes from singing crazy high soprano to belting up a storm.

Sorry I didn't post this earlier, it just slipped my mind! I'm having senior moments in my 30's. On November 5th, my dad and godmother went to NYC from Southern NJ to see The Marvelous Wonderettes. They loved the show and said it was really exciting and upbeat. They really liked the songs because most of them were from their era and they could sing a long which they did. They know it's not really good theater etiquette to sing a long, but everyone was and they said the cast really seemed to enjoy the audience's energy. They loved the entire show from start to finish. It was a wonderful birthday present for both of them - thanks Eris for the original post! I'm going to definitely get the cd for them for Christmas!
i talked to Bets Malone, the actress who appeared with Derek on the road and they are still friends. She is going to see the show on December 4, but is sorry to miss Jose who is a friend of hers too.
