Ya what gives D&B? We expected a full report of your theater experiance. Had you ever seen Jose play Kenickie before?
Not sure why any one thinks Eris would know more than I do about Jose but, yes, I was there. They offered Jose the Kenicke cover last month and last night was his first opportunity to do it. There were four covers last night and if I am not mistaken all four were new to the part they were doing.
I loved Jose as Kenicke. His singing was fantastic and he did a great job, very different from Jose as Sonny. He will be back as Sonny on Friday as far as I know, but he was doing it for three performances this week.
Joe, the actor who covered Sonny last night was very funny when I went backstage last night. He said, "Thanks for coming to our dress rehearsal."
Well, according to Cha Cha's blog, Ace Young (from AI season 5) will be joining the cast of Grease as Kenickie on Sept. 7. http://mormoninmanhattan.blogspot.com/

Oh. that's my birthday! Maybe I need to see Grease on my b-day too! I liked Ace on American Idol, but he just didn't have the strong voice at that time.
IMO it's a great move. Ace is a doll and he has a large fan base (not the size of Taylor's - but large enough and he has very dedicated fans.) He's so good looking, but very soft spoken, and just a nice guy. This is smart. The producers knew they couldn't get another TH for TA, so they're concentrating on changing it up with another character to continue with the new energy.
Am I glad I saw the show before... after TH ANOTHER AMERICAN IDOL.... SORRY BUT you really lose me...
As long as they have the talent and the stamina for Broadway, I don't see why American Idols can't be hired. Ace has a lot of talent. Plus, he's very good-looking! He'll help bring more people to the show, which is a positive thing. I have faith in the people working at "Grease"--they were smart enough to bring in Ashley and Derek!

Matt Saldivar is handsome... GREAT ACTOR AND AWSOME SINGER... why he left is still a question mark for me.... and for the ones who are going to tell me that Laura Max Asheley and Derek came from a reallity show ALL OF THEM had experience acting...
Yep! TPTB know what they're doing. Ace is a shocker though...a handsome leading man type in a sidekick role. Opens up a whole new dynamic! I'll be anxious to hear Greased Lightnin' on the tube.
You never know if the people on American Idol have acting talent too! Jennifer Hudson, Clay Aiken, Fantasia, Diana Degarmo, Katharine McPhee, Taylor, etc. have all had success in the acting business. Jennifer Hudson even won an Oscar!
I am really torn... cause when I saw the show, Jose Restrepo was playing Sonny and I liked his performance... good actor... and impressed me... but he surprised me even more with his Greased lighting performance WOW WOW WOW... my question is do we keep him as Kennickie and hire someone else to play Sonny?
And I watched summer nights... for me Max and Laura sang it better hand down... no question about it...

As we have said before on the board, everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. I thought that Ashley and Derek did an awesome job on "Summer Nights," and I bet it sounds even better when you hear them live in the theater. I can't wait to see them perform! Ashley was my favorite from the beginning of the show, and I am so excited to get to see her as "Sandy!"

No question about it for a lot of people! Ashley and Derek are the best!

Ashley and Derek "always were" and "always will be," the BEST!
Well let's just say... that Derek and Ashley have the roles now!
Yes, and I see that as the right decision! Bringing in Ashley and Derek is bringing me to New York to see the show! And I'm being joined by plenty of others! There are lots of Ashley and Derek fans who are thrilled that they get to see them in the show!
That is why and when I say stop... American Idol is for singer... Grease yes you have to sing but you have to act too... that is where I draw the line...
American Idol is not only singing -- it's performing before the public: singer, musician, acting to show emotions in a song they are performing. Some of them have had theater practice and gone to school for it.
Every new performer that comes into the show brings something new to it.
Well you dont go from american idol to broadway like that... for me it is a non sense... Laura and Max as well as Derek had a lot of experience with grease... that help with the other comedian...
And as for Derek he wasn't even the runner up and in the show his voice always craked... hope for him it is not the same in broadway cause he sure look the part at least

Lots of American Idols have gone on to Broadway and have been successful. Diana Degarmo was in "Hairspray;" Fantasia was in "The Color Purple;" Clay Aiken was in "Spamalot" and is returning to the show. Plus, Ace has been off of Idol for a couple of years, and I am sure that he has gained a lot of experience in different areas. Let's give him a chance!
As for Derek, his voice cracked twice at the most. He is adorable and sounded great on his songs almost all of the time! Plus, he has been doing a great job as "Danny." The powers at "Grease" could have asked anyone to come in as "Danny" when Max left; they picked Derek. To me, that says a lot!

Well Nad, I respect your opinion, but Derek is doing wonderfully! His voice and acting is spot on. The crack issue just needs to be dropped already. It's a thing of the past. And it was probably a problem with the musical direction not pitching the music low enough for Derek's voice on the TV show. So, we need to just quit talking about that. He has a wonderfully voice. And, the TV Show is quite over! In my opinion!
WELL I dont like his voice at the first place... but I am ready to give him a chance cause I really do like Ashely and I think they make a good looking couple...

Well glad you are giving him a chance! We all need chances in life! They are an awesome looking couple, aren't they?

Oh, they look great together!!! You'll love them together, Nad!
Nad.....Kenickie isn't Hamlet....Ace will be a knockout.
I have the notion that Taylor's replacement will be Constantine. He said in an interview that he is in negotiations to return to Broadway around Labor Day. I have never been a fan, but I must say, I think he would be just dandy.
well 3 minutes in the play th... but kenickie is more than 3 minutes and a half and it takes a lot of acting talent to pull it off that role... I think Ray that you are not abale to make the difference

Constantine Maroulis to star in off-Broadway's 'Rock of Ages' musical
