Thanks, Eris! I loved reading this article!!! I sure hope that they extend "Grease!" I know that I'll want to see it again after I go! But of course, I will go and see Ashley perform in whatever she does next too! I was very impressed with the interview! Ashley, of course, did a wonderful job answering all of the questions that she was asked. And I especially enjoyed reading her thoughts about the "Grease" reality show, as well as the "Legally Blonde" reality show. Thanks again--what a great find!!! I sure wish that "People" and other magazines would also write about Ashley and Derek! I'd love to see the word spread about them being in "Grease!" No one should miss seeing this talented cast!
Someone asked this question a while back, greasefan maybe?
Question: So you didn't have to audition again? Spencer: I didn't. I was hoping that my audition on national television would have been enough. [Laughs.]

She did do enough! That was such a long process! I'm sure that by working with Ashley that long on the TV show, they were able to see how wonderfully talented she is and that she was a great choice for "Sandy!"
When Ashey was little, her play time with her mom was singing and performing scenes from movies. One of their favorite songs was "Only Make Believe" from Showboat so when they would be watching the movie and that scene came on, they would jump up and play the scene just as it was playing on TV. It is amazing what can become of play time, you never know when it will turn into a career.

Ashley was always dancing and singing as a kid. She was taking piano lessons when she was 8 or 9 and it took her teacher 6 months to realize that Ashley wasn't reading notes but playing by ear.

Wow, that's really a special gift! For Ashley, it's one of many special gifts! Acting, dancing, singing, and piano! What a talented girl!

And, Ashley LIGHTS up the stage! You can't take your eyes off her!
I enjoyed Ashley's performance on the tv show You're the one that i want, but im confused are they going to be changing Sandys and Dannys every year now? Is Ashley going to be taking over for Laura??
Ashley took over for Laura last month. A typical Broadway contract for a lead or principal is six months to a year. Max and Laura both had one year contracts which ended in July. I've heard two different stories regarding Ashley's current contract. Some say she's with Grease until next July while others say she will be returning to Hairspray before Christmas to finish out her contract with them. She was contracted with Hairspray until, I believe, October. She left that show in July to join Grease which leaves her with three months to complete.

Max & Laura had one year contracts, which were not renewed. Derek & Ashley have 6-month contracts.
PlayBill interview at beginning of this thread: Question: Do you know how long you'll stay with Grease? Spencer: Right now I'm signed for six months through mid-January, but of course I would love to be renewed. But if I don't get renewed, then maybe that means that I am meant to do something else!

I'm just curious Eris, where do you get your information about Ashley concerning Hairspray? Do you know the terms and conditions of her contract? I don't think it is right for you to lead people such as Frenchy to believe that you know what is going on when you don't. Stick to the facts Eris, Ashley took over the part of Sandy on July 22, 2008.

I have to agree with you Arthur. It's not appropriate for anyone on here to talk about someone's contract with this show or any other show unless they have the facts (in print) to back it up. The conjecture on the part of posters can be misleading, gets a little unsettling and is the basis for future rumors. No one on here knows the details of anyone's contract.
Thanks Greaser Bill for setting the record straight on this issue. I believe what comes out the mouths of the actors themselves, not on fans or message board posters.
I understand that during the Soul Patrol "talk back" Ashley was asked how long she would be with Grease and she answered 6 months. Wasn't Eris there? Correct me if I am wrong about this.
