I just got home half an hour ago and boy am I tired.

I left work around 5pm and headed right to the train station.  Upon arrival I heard an announcement over the PA that all trains headed into New York were running an hour late.  Since my train was due to arrive a little after 7 it would, instead, arrive after 8.  Since the show started at 8 that was pretty much unacceptable.  I boarded the train and talked to the conductor who told me that there was no delay but if he heard something he'd let me know.  Well, he came back just as the train was pulling out of the Newark Airport station to say that there was, indeed, a delay.  A train had run a red light and derailed and our train wouldn't be pulling into Penn Station until after 8pm.

He, then, suggested that I get off the train at Newark and take the PATH train into Manhattan.  And this is what I did.  I got off the PATH at 33th Street and Broadway at 7:45pm.  Fourteen blocks from the theatre.  So I hailed a cab and would you believe we caught every single red light?  It was, like, 7:59pm when I got there.  I didn't even have time to open my playbill and see if there were any understudies.

The show starts and I noticed that Jose come out of Keinike's door and some unfamiliar guy come out of Sonny's.  Since Jose had been covering for Matt the past few days I didn't think too much of it.  I was just grateful to be able to see Jose go on in the role.

We go through the first number and Ashley makes her entrance.  Then Derek's about to make his and I get all ready to cheer when Matt walks out on stage.  Well, I was like a deflated balloon.  Not that I dislike Matt and I think he did a really great job.  But I was a tad disappointed.

There have been some changes to the show since I last saw it.  Magic Changes staging is difference, they added the twinkies to the sleepover scene, Sonny and Roger find bras in the back of the car after the Greased Lightening number and start waving them around like flags as the car "drives" offstage.  And there were a few mishaps tonight.  First, during the dance Rizzo says to Danny "How about taking me to the dance" instead of "How about being my partner for the dance contest".  And when Roger is swinging around his arial the end flew off and went into the audience - right into the lap of one of the SPers!

After the show I was invited to the talk back that the SP had set up with the cast.  And most of the principles were there...Ashley, Matt, Kirsten, Jose, Will, Allison, Lyndsay, Janine, and Taylor.  That was a lot of fun and I felt as if I could have gotten up on stage and answered the questions with them.

After that we trooped out to the stage door where I got to chat with everybody.  When Ashley saw me she said something about Derek not being there and that she had heard someone start to cheer as Danny made his entrance and then stop when it turned out to be Matt and not Derek.  Matt latered mentioned hearing the same thing.  How sad am I? biggrin  Ashley was also trying to talk me into coming back tonight.  I don't know.  Maybe.

I went out for a drink and a bite to eat with the SP and I left them around midnight.  And I got home on the train with no delays.  Yay for that.  And now I'm tired.

Thanks for the update. Wow, what a bummer. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the 2:00 show today! Now I have something to talk to Ashley and Derek about. Aside from telling them the performance was great, I can never carry on small talk, like the Queen!

Eris -

I think it was pretty awesome of whoever it was in the Soul Patrol who arranged to have you join them for the talk back. You didn't mention any names or thank anybody in particular. ?

Thanks Stockard. I knew the ticket was from BBS, but the talk back isn't included in the ticket price. It's an additional charge, and I know when the NESP had theirs, it was a lot of fun and very special.

Eris said it was fun, and she mentioned every cast member who was there, so I was a little surprised she didn't acknowledge the person(s) who invited her to attend and who she spent time with. The Soul Patrollers who participate on this Board are supportive and appreciative of all the cast members, and that's evident in their generous sharing of any pictures or media they come across, and in the positive recaps they post after seeing the show.

Since it's obvious that Eris parks her car in the "No Taylor Hicks Fans Allowed" parking lot, which is run by Nad, (LOL), I think it was an awesome (and typical SP) gesture to invite her to hang out with Taylor fans. JMHO!

I think Eris probably thought people could see who invited her, cause it was well known she was going with my group. smile.gif
Hopefully, as time goes by, the few who still don't like Taylor will give him a chance.smile.gifwink.gif

I thought they put a note in the program or announced when there are cast changes?

there were pieces of paper placed in the playbill saying what the cast changes were.

Shadi...no, as I said in my original post I got to the theatre right around show time. I spotted the standee as I was walking in but it's never there after an evening show.

ddkt...there are pieces of paper but I didn't have time to even open my program.

Kristen, I got to bed after 4am so that killed any chance of seeing the matinee. The discount code isn't good for Saturday evening shows so if I went I'd have to go to TKTS.

I didn't realize I was required to shout to to all of the Taylor fans on the MB. I said what needed to be said in person. I'll have to go back to check my "Guide to Posting on a Message Board about Taylor" for the official ruling.

ETA:  I have spoken to Nad about some of the comments she makes on the board in private.  She can attest to the fact that I have suggested she not make such negative comments about Taylor.

I never got the impression that Eris was "No Taylor Hicks Fans Allowed" at all. Just because she's friends with Nad doesn't mean that. I mean, they've both been on these boards from the beginning.

Just posting to say that I managed to get a discounted ticket to the show so I am going tonight.  I've never seen a show two days in a row and I blame Ashley.  biggrin

Hey all...I just got home. Yes, I did get to see "hubby". I went drinking with the SP again and was out a bit later than I had planned. Then when I got home I realized I'd left the book I'd been reading on the train as well as my playbill on top of the pay machine at the train station. So I had to turn around and go back to get them. Luckily, they were there.

Eris, did you wait in the TKTS line? I walked past and saw Grease 50% off, but I bought my tickets two days earlier. And if so, where did you end of sitting?

I was away yesterday and just read this thread. What a nice gesture on BBS'S part to give you a ticket Eris ! I've always said and I'll say it again SP,are some of the most gracious ,caring and giving people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.,they genuinely care about others.Hard to find in this day and age I'd say !
In a few more weeks Taylor's run in Grease will be over,he's been a wonderful addition to a great musical.I think in hindsight he will be remembered not only for an awesome job but for his generousity of spirit also ! Humility is an endearing asset.

I think it strange Eris that you haven't commented on Derek's performance as Danny. You have seen him twice now, surely, a good review for the object of your affection!

I, intentionally, don't say too much about Derek's performance because anything I say could be seen as "bias". I always enjoy seeing Derek on stage and I did comment on his performance the first time I saw him.
