That's so sad! If only Ashley had stayed with the show, it would most likely be staying open!
Do you really think this is so? The show has been up for quite some time, has had a movie made of it that many peope have seen. Not sure that it has more legs than it has had.

Yes, I truly believe it! They lost my business when Ashley left the show!
Wow, Spam is going too?? Well, that's why they brought Clay back to bring in some money. Without him, their sales shot down! WOW! Things are tough everywhere!
Yay for Grease. I hope it fares better than these other shows. I know last week, Saturday night was a sellout! Yay for Grease!
My gawd!!! Spring Awakening?? I really am surprised. Things are bad everywhere. The only thing I'm thinking is that this may drive the price of tickets down. IF we can afford them at all. Pray for the economy and our country!! We're all in this sinking ship together
Hairspray, [Title of Show], Spring Awakening, Rent, Legally Blonde, Spamalot and Xanadu. (sigh) Hairspray is my favorite show and I'm sad to see it end..but..i got tickets to the last show! Spring Awakening is my second favorite show, and I am crushed. Hopefully i will see it once more before closing! [Title of Show] should have had a longer run, it was HYSTERICAL. Rent had a good run....and i am very happy to say i had the chance to see it before it closed...eden espinosa and tracie thoms FTW!!!!!! Legally Blonde...saw it 3 times...for some bizarre reason, haha. crashed and burned after LBB left. glad its gone. no offense all you..blondites. Spamalot--i refuse to see it..and will continue to NOT se it. Xanadu....poor kerry butler. i adore her and was devastated when i found out. saw the show september 07 and lovedddd it.
I may have missed this article but I saw on theatremania that 13 is closing Jan 4 as well. Also, Gypsy is closing at the end of Patti Lupone's contract on March 1.

Okay -newbie here. Is this a normal flow of things? Or is it really indicative of the bad economy? You would never think things are bad when you see the lines at TKTS every weekend!!

There are probably more people in line at TKTS now than before. Everyone is looking for a deal! This is the only way to deal in this economy. No one is going to spend anymore than they have to now.
Everyone should buy stock in Walmart....It is the only retail outlet that is going strong, and will get stronger in a weak economy. From what I hear, they can't hire people fast enough.
I was a little surprised by Young Frankenstein but not by 13, American Buffalo, and Gypsy.
American Buffalo was, more or less, hated by everyone I spoke to. 13 has such a small audience and their closing as been buzzed about since it opened. And they weren't even going to bother to find someone to replace the irreplacable Patti Lupone in Gypsy.

I am actually suprised that Young Frankstein lasted as long as it did. The real stars of the show have been bailing out from early on as it got terrible reviews. It was also in a huge theater and had a big nut.
Gypsy was a star vehicle for Lupone. I am sure the thought never occured to them to replace her.
