Current word on the street is that Bailey Hanks has been a bit under the weather and Kate has been filling in for her as Elle in Legally Blonde. I hear that Kate will be going on for today's matinee with Bailey returning for the evening show. I already had tickets to the matinee so I will let everyone how Kate does if she does indeed go on.

Kate did, indeed, go on as Elle today and she was amazing! So great! Though the show was not "accident free".
During the Legally Blonde Remix in the second act Elle's parents are driven onto the stage on a golf cart. As they're getting off the girl who was playing the mom caught her high heel and fell flat on her butt. This wasn't a huge deal because her character is a bit tipsy so it fit. But there was a problem as the car was driving off. The guy driving was not the usual driver - he was on as Emmett. So this guy wasn't really used to handling the golf cart and he was driving it a bit fast and close to the edge of the stage. The wheels facing the audience actually went off stage and I was so sure the car was going to tip into the audience - which would have caused major injury. Luckily all that happened is that he crashed into the wall. But, since the wheels were off stage, he couldn't pull get the car going again. He got out and started to pull but it was stuck. Then a few ensemble members came over to pull. All the while the number's still going on and Kate's just singing her heart out. Then the UPS Guy Kyle makes his entrance with the box of flowers for Paulette. He says to Paulette "What's going on here?" which is his usual line. Paulette's response is supposed to be "We're just cheering on our friend Elle". But today she said "I have no idea!" which just brought everything to a halt. Everyone, audience and cast, just started laughing. Orfeh got applause for her ad-lib and the stage crew managed to get the car off the stage. Then she turned to Kyle and said "Before that happened we were cheering on our friend Elle". Then Kyle says "I have another package for you" and hands her the box of flowers. She usually only makes a noise in response but this time she said "It's about time" which got more laughter and applause. And the show went on!
Afterward Lauren and I went to the stage door and got to chat with Kate for a bit. Then we were headed for dinner but there was this huge street fair and I didn't want to push through there with Lauren. So I just decided to head down to 8th Avenue and walk past it until we got to 50th Street. Doing so we walked past Grease. Lauren wanted me to take a picture of Ace's poster as well as the stand up of Derek and Ashley. So we paused for this and doing so we saw Dominic, Janine, Kirsten, and Jose. Then we headed to dinner.
I have pictures but I'll put them up after I get changed. I haven't been home very long.

Thanks for posting! I found another article some might find interesting http://www.broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=33164 I'm so excited that Laura and Julianna will be performing together-they were two of my favorites!
I got home from New York a bit ago. As I said in the "Halloween" thread I had tickets to see A Tale of Two Cities. As some you may recall I had the opportunity to see the show in Sarasota last Halloween thanks to an unknown Angel who wanted me to be able to see Derek in the role.
This a wonderful show and I cannot say enough good things about it. And I'm so happy to see another "Greaser" on Broadway. Slowly but surely they'll all land there eventually.
The show has changed since I saw it in Florida last year. The screws have definitely been tightened. Scenes that I thought weren't necessary were gone and certain other things were expanded.
Kevin has a small role as the valet to the evil Marquis St. Evremonde as well as many other smaller roles in the ensemble.
This is a great show based on a classic book. Go see it.

The American workshop begins Sunday, November 9, 2008, with James Barbour (Tale Of Two Cities, Jane Eyre, Assassins) as Edmund Dantes/The Count of Monte Cristo and Brandi Burkhardt (Jekyll & Hyde, Tale of Two Cities) as Mercedes. Joining them will be Gregg Edelman as Abbe Faria, Michael Shawn Lewis as Mondego, Natalie Toro as Louisa the Pirate Queen, Craig Bennett as Danglars, Kevin Earley as Villefort, Chelsea Stock as Valentine, and Kevin Greene as Albert. Also in the cast are Alison Cimmet, William Thomas Evans, Dan Petrotta, Tim Shew, Anne Tolpegin, & Alison Walla
This is GREAT news for Kevin!
For those of you not familiar with the story Albert is a pretty central character. I hope this can make its way to Broadway with Kevin in the role

Very sad. I just saw it two weeks ago during a quick trip to NY and thoroughly enjoyed the show. Loved the music, loved the sets and the singing was wonderful. It's a shame it hit Broadway during such a bad economic time as I think it could have done better if it hadn't started at the end of summer.
Here's a quote from Playbill. com regarding the closing of Tale of Two Cities:
"The producers cited the American economic crisis as a factor in the decision to shutter, and said they were regrouping for a future national tour. "Due to the recent recession and stock market decline which have resulted in weaker ticket buying traffic patterns and steep discounting in the industry," the show is closing, according to a Nov. 4 statement."
The economy is affecting everything in this country!
Before the above article came out I got a message from Jill Santoriello (Tale's composer/lyricist/book writer) informing me of the change so I could have my ticket changed from Nov 16 to tomorrow. She's going to be there tomorrow and I'm hoping to get to say hello to her (and Kevin lol). Someone recently said (and I'm totally paraphrasing here) "It's great to meet someone who's work you admire but even better when they know your name".
I'm so sorry to this show closing its doors so soon and I hope Kevin makes it back to Broadway VERY soon.

I'm not making this too long because I had a bit too much to drink at the party and now have a headache. Yuck.
Anyway, the final show Tale of Two Cities was so wonderful and amazing. The audience was so into the show and they were very enthusiastic and, at the end, the tears were plentiful. As of right now a tour is definitely being planned. So, if it does happen and it comes near you SEE IT. It's a wonderful show that just didn't work at the moment.

Phew, I still have a tiny bit of a headache but I'm doing okay.
Here's a longer and more detailed recap of the closing night of Tale of Two Cities.
I couldn't see up into the mezzanine or balcony but the orchestra was PACKED and it was pretty obvious that it was going an enthusiastic audience. It was mostly friends, family, and the die-hard fans there. A few people were smattered around who simply had tickets for that day and/or had no idea it was the last performance.
Before the show I got to chat with Kevin, producer Barbara Russell, director Warren Carslye, and writer/composor/lyricist Jill Santoriello. They're all so nice and it turns out Barbara and her husband Ron Sharpe (another Tale producer live not far from me. Small world, huh?
When they show starts they project the title on a black scrim and the audience went ballastic! The cheering for the title seemed endless. Nearly everyone got entrance applause. James Barbour's entrance practically stopped the show as well as more than one of his numbers.
The show itself was great as always and there was this extra bit of energy today. Everyone seemed to want to give their best performance ever. The show, itself, is always emotional but it was more so. The very last moment of the show is Sydney (James Barbour) walking up the stairs to the guillontine to his death and James had tears running down his face. Ug, I was a mess. Other people crying totally sets me off - especially when it's someone as "strong" as James.
James gave a lovely speech at the end of the show and nearly everyone on stage was crying. Natalie Toro, who has been on the project longer than many of the other performers, simply fell apart after curtain calls. You just wanted to run up there and give her a huge hug.
Afterward we went to the PACKED stagedoor where I chatted with the producers some more. They remembered me from my postings on BWW.com and thanked me for everything I'd done for the show. Jill commented that she was glad I had forgiven them for recasting Derek. HA! I love it. They want to keep in touch and I feel as if I've made some wonderful connections (and friends!) through this show. I'm going to miss it soooo much and I feel sorry for the people who never got to experience it. I am very hopeful that they will be able to tour and get a new recording.
I'd bought a window card and had it signed. Eventually, I'll have it framed with the ticket to add to my collection.

I forgot to add that Brandi Burkhardt looks a LOT like Ashley. I didn't notice the resemblance the first time I met her because she had a baseball cap on. But when I saw her with her hair down last night I was startled by how much they look alike,
