I saw this on the internet , not sure how much to believe it, but it says Max is to appear in the film version of Nine. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2181595/
I've always been told anybody can make entries into IMDB on a whim. And with the movie planned for release in 2008 and Max kind of tied up for the next year, PLUS the fact that there doesn't seem to be a role for him the way the play was written, I kind of doubt it.

Not totally on a whim. You do have to be a registered member in order to submit any changes, then a research team at imdb does confirm the information if possible before it is posted. Sometimes, this stuff slips in from a news items that might mention something that gets picked up. But it is very speculative when names are attached to a new movie or TV show. Sometimes it doesn't amount to anything.
But this one is curious and does sound speculative. The character that Max is listed to play is "actor", which means it could be a small part that is added to the movie version that wasn't in the original play. And it is in pre-production, which means it won't start filming for a few months. (Sometimes longer than that if there is lots to be done.)
I can't find anything definite on it other than the major roles haven't been cast yet. So no idea where the source for this is.
Thanks for the clarification on imdb, grannygreaser. I saw Nine about 20 years ago and don't remember any male character that would be around Max's age. Time will tell, I guess.
I dont think the timing of the release of this film would work with Grease unless it was something very small that he could shoot on a day off. I wil have to ask him. During the TV show, Haunted High School Musical was on there as rumored and they had approached him on that one. This may have stemed from the article in EW where he told Rob Marshall that he wanted to play Ren in Footloose. Any press is good press right?

That's interesting that Max really was approached about Haunted High School Musical. I remember when the IMDB comment came out on that and most people seemed to think it was bogus. So maybe there's something to the Nine thing....
I wil have to ask him. Hope you'll let us know :)
I'd love to see Max as Ren in Footloose. But then I'd love to see just about anybody other than Zac Efron. I'm a wee bit tired of hearing about him.
The Weinstein Co. has added another high-profile name to "Nine," tapping Oscar-nommed screenwriter and novelist Michael Tolkin to pen the screen adaptation....
Casting is still ongoing, and Marshall has said that talent availability will in large part determine whether the pic can be ready by 2008 or not until 2009 or beyond.

Guido is the show's only male role. Antonio Banderas played Guido in a 2003 Broadway revival.
According to Broadway.comBuzz, in interviews producer Harvey Weinstein has been quoted as saying he wants an all-star cast for "Nine," mentioning Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench and "Chicago" stars Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger as possibilities. Celebrity magazines recently reported that Katie Holmes had met with Marshall about a role in the film.
