I am planning on seeing a few other plays while I am in New York for "Grease" and I am wondering, of those of you who are going also, what other plays you might be planning to see while you are there?
My choices are all musicals: Spring Awakening, Xanadu, Mary Poppins, and Grease twice. I was going to see The Pirate Queen, but that one didn't survive.
You have picked great ones. Just a note about Spring awakenings is that it deals with young adult situations and may not be the best for early teens. But that being said the music and play are great. If you have to pick just one I would say Legally blonde.
As for what we plan to see in September when we see Grease, we are thinking Jersey Boys or Hairspray
Wicked is a great choice. Or you may want to see Hairspray or Jersey Boys. Legally Blonde also sounds good. Out of your choices, I think you should go with Mary Poppins.
Jersey Boys is a very hard ticket to get. Drowsy Chaperone was great. TKTS which right now is located at the Marriot Hotel (underneath near the lobby entrance) is a wonderful place to see shows, the tickets are very inexpensive and while they may not be the best seats, they always have something you may want to see. You stand on a line but you have to get there early to get something you might want to see. There is also another booth at the South Street Seaport.

Also, for $20 you can join Theater Development Fund for a year and there you can buy tickets for many things for 30 or less.

There are a ton of other performances off Broadway, concerts, dance and whatever you can think of!
all of the shows are very good. i am seeing grease on the 28th of july, but am also going up to see rent and mary poppins.
wicked was amazing, as was jersey boys. tkts is your best bet though for cheaper tickets, which currently is located right outside of the marriot marquois while the main office is being renovated in time square.
wicked is by far the best broadway show i've seen. if you can get in on that...it's amazing. the story, music, acting, costumes, set, and lighting are amazing. any of the disney shows are also awesome. another great one (off broadway) is altar boyz. it's at new world stages. it's about a Christian boy band made up of Matthew (the leader), Mark (the "sensative" one), Luke (the bad boy), Juan (the Latin lover), and Abraham (he's Jewish). i did not stop laughing when i saw this. it's awesome and doesn't make fun of Christianity in an offensive way. I'm a strong Catholic and love it. the songs are like "girl, you make me want to wait" and "God put the rhythm in me" i definitly recommend it to anyone. you also can never go wrong with rent or hairspray...two great shows
