I live in Atlanta and have friends from France staying with me. They will be traveling to NY next week and would like to take in a couple of shows. This is their first time to NY (and the US) and haven't seen any shows so they are hoping they can get discounted tickets because they aren't holding out for a particular show. I told them about 1/2 price tickets the day of show but I don't know how rush or standing room only tickets work. I know these tickets aren't available for every show but that's the extent of what I know. Any suggestions you can give me would really be appreciated. They are a family of five and I can't even imagine what this trip is costing them. I apoligize if this has already been addressed somewhere else on the board and I thank you in advance for your help.
Broadwaybox is great for discounts and I have never had a problem with them. As for standing room or rush tickets take a look at this link as it will help you out.
Also you may be surprised that the Europeans that are coming to the States will find things cheap. Every one of their Euros will get the about $1.37, plus our prices are much better. In fact our family from Ireland came over in June with an empty suitcase because clothing was less expensive here. They filled it and more for the kids.
I find that ticket prices are cheaper at TKTS (now at the Marriott Marquis hotel) than on BroadwayBox. I recommend "Hairspray", "Curtains" and "Spamalot" for your friends.
I have used BroadwayBox once, and it was very easy.
Good luck.
