Hi all! I am new to this forum and don't usually post but I felt compelled to let Max and Laura's Mom's know my story...... I am a mid thirties Mom with three great kids. I was one of those kids who, at the age of eight, in 1978 when the movie first came out, was obsessed with Grease, the movie. I had the posters, we used to pretend to be Danny and Sandy as kids playing, etc.....Flash forward to this spring, I came upon the show and had to stop when I saw Max performing Summer of 69 (which by the way was one of my favorite songs as a teen...all of this is so right up my alley!). I was immediately hooked and was rooting for him the entire time. Laura was my favorite from the begining with her beautiful voice and smile! They are both amazing with their story telling during their performances. As a speech pathologist, I have a soft spot for the underdog and even though I would never cast Max as an underdog that is how the show spun the competition. I was rooting for M & L to win like crazy and when they did I got right online and ordered tickets to see the show. We saw the August 10 performance and just loved it. My husband and I went, it was our first trip away from our three little ones!!! He was a military fighter pilot (read: not exactly a musical theater buff) but loved every minute of the show (he really thought the teen angel was hilarious). My personal favorite moments of the show were Max's track scene, Laura's Raining on Prom night. Also, I really thought M &L were amazing dancers which you really didn't get to see a lot of in YTOTIW. I agreed with everyone who has commented on Max and Laura's manners and consideration of all the fans which I observed at the stage door. Which brings me to my point for their mothers: As a mother, I can only hope to raise people who are as grounded, kind and truly gifted in sharing their God given talents to those around them. God bless you ladies for raising such shining stars who have inspired a lot of people!!!! K from FL
Hi K! I just wanted to write and say that I enjoyed your email very much, and I agree with you on Laura and Max: I just think they are outstanding people and I cannot wait to see them in a few weeks!!!! I'm happy to hear you loved the show---did you get any photos or autographs? Again, nice email, and welcome to the board! Dana in MN
Thank you KoKo3 for the lovely comments. It is a wonderful, committed long journey to raise a child and it is a fabulous reward to see them prospering. For Laura and Max to have this opportunity at 21 years old is a phenomenal responsibility as well as amazing exposure for them. My favorite comment in the reviews so far was one that called Laura the valedictorian of poise. Wow! Almost an understatement from my vantage point as a very admitedly proud parent. Thank you again for your comments.
Oh, how thrilling that you guys replied!! I mean that... Laura's Mom, thanks for taking the time to post a reply. I've really enjoyed reading your posts on parenting, they are very insightful. I have girls, ages 7 & 2 and a 5 year old son... I can't even imagine how thrilled and overwhelmed you and your family must have felt on opening night. I agree with your comment about the responsibility of this on M&L and I did feel a sense of that as I saw them at the stage door. Just how exciting and possibly overwhelming all this fan adoration and grueling schedule and living in a new city and being newly married must be/or living alone (Max)....but she carries it all off with such grace. She radiates and glows and she and Max will be in my prayers!! Is it weird that I worry about them, I don't even know them personally! I have wondered about this new found teen idol status that Max is experiencing. It must be so strange to go from dude to sex symbol in a few short months. How does he seem to be coping?
And Dana, thanks so much for your warm welcome! M&L were nice enough to sign my playbill and I did get a couple pictures of them doing so, they were too cute and sweet!! I loved the show, I will continue to root for Max and Laura as time goes by and I can't wait to see what is in store for them!! Kate
Koko3, I am not on this thread very often anymore and there are so many threads that this one got burried at the bottom. Thank you for the kind words and the mother like heart for his well being. He is a pretty wonderful young man, but you are right in that all this has happened so quickly for him. He is normally a very private person which you can imagine adds to the overwhelming response from fans. I think he enjoys living alone so that he can have some privacy. Now that the opening is behind them, I think that all will become very enjoyable to them and they will get in to routines. I would like to say that I had the opportunity to meet the parents of the other cast members that were there (not all of them) and I wish that you could all know the rest of the cast as well. They are the nicest bunch of kids I have ever met and they just love eachother. I think Jose's mother in law posts here and Jose is so incredibly sweet, funny and Max just loves him as he does Daniel, Matt and Patrick. His T-Birds. All of these guys and gals are products of other parents that should be equally as proud as we all are. I just have to say too that Susan, Stephen and Jeb are incredible role models to the rest of the cast and are very protective of them as well. There is also an entire crew of stage folks, dressers, PR folks and wonderful photographers (broadway.com-Bruce is the best) that are also so great with the kids and make the job they have to do so much easier. It is great not to have to worry about Max with these folks around. I also cannot express how much we love Laura and Nate and that we remember them daily. Thank you again for you post.
Maxismylove, Thanks for posting back. That was very sweet and thoughtful, thanks for taking the time to let us know that he is okay and a great situation!! The cast does seem amazing, I was so impressed with all of their performances. Its heartwarming to know that they are as nice as they seem! I just wanted you to know that both Max and Laura have a really great fan base of people who genuinely care! Thanks again!! K
