I am totally and 100% bummmmmmed! I watched Grease: You're the one that I want
throughout the whole season! and I can't even go and watch the show. It's always been my dream to go to nyc and grease is my favorite musical! and I'm in love with max crumm!
I went to see the show on yesterday - it was amazing! I sat in the 9th row, orchestra section....soooo close! Max was absolutely awesome! I didn't want the show to end, it was two hours of total enjoyment. The whole cast was wonderful. I want to go back again and again and again! I too watched every episode of Grease, you're the one that I want. I couldn't wait to see it on B'way and it was everything I thought it would be. Katleen Marshall did an incredible job with choreographing every scene. I wish I could have taken some pics, but not allowed
I feel for ya, I know how I would feel if I couldn't go see it!
Glad you had a great time. I loved it when I went and thought it was very good....fun...entertaining. But I am wondering what was the audience reaction? I read here somewhere that it was changinging a little from the YTOTIW viewers to people who had not seen the reality show. Do our two stars still get entrance applause, do the fans still give a standing O at the end and do they still rock out to the band after the curtain call?
saw the show the day before the real opening night.. thought it was wonderful.. Max and Laura were terrific.. disappointed in reviews..they really were much better than reveiws gave.. they come out after show for autographs and photos.. it was awesome..
Welcome aboard. This a fun forum with lots of friendly people. I would suggest you read through as many of the past posts as possible and you'll get a good clear picture of how people feel about Max (and almost everything else too).
People, as fans, tend to go a little overboard and it is probably not true that Max can walk on water, hit five high C's in a row, and bat .300 for the Yankees, but he certainly comes out on the positive side of the total evaluations. The same is true for Laura and she may even be able to get up to those C's. Anyway, if she can't, no-one really cares as they pretty much like her the way she is.
Don't be surprised if his intepretation is not just like Travolta's. Read about the changes in Grease throughout the history of the show and you'll see what I mean.
Bu the way. Both Max and Laura's mothers are members of this forum and contribute every once in a while. Check them out for a good read and a warm feeling.

and I'm missing all of it.
Sympathize for me. haha.
But seriously...how amazing is it?
Welcome and I hope that you are going through all the posts like others have suggested and you will be able to see several of the actual stage performances from the opening night show.
gramps3............ Obviously, you have not seen the show. Max does walk on water. While there are no high Cs written for Danny, there is a B-flat on "Why-y-y-y" at the end of "Sandy".
jtahmazing........ At the very least, Max gets another "a".... Max is ahmaazing!!!!!!!

I'm a fan of Max, but I heard the falsetto note and it needs work. I expect he'll get there though.
i've seen the show twice now, once on 8/9, again last friday. max was absolutely terrific the first time i saw him - in good voice and dancing better than i'd remembered (or more than he'd been doing on the tv show and, therefore, just got to see more of his dancing which was great) but, last friday, the second time i saw him...
HE WAS AMAZING!!!
his voice has gotten richer and stronger and his ability to project has quadrupled, it seemed, his dancing was even sharper and they're playing the script/book for more of the laughs and max is very, very comfortable there. i couldn't imagine him any better than he is and couldn't imagine anyone else doing the role or doing it as well. he's really wondeful.
he is not travolta and that is a good thing!! he is 100% max, just like we like him.

I agree. Why would we want Max to imitate Travolta? He's making the part his own. Max is enormously talented. I've been very disappointed in some of the critics' attitudes. They seem to want to see Travolta and Newton John. That was 30 years ago!!! I'm glad Gen Y is doing a Grease for the 21st Century.
i kinow I wrote this already in the other thread but I totally agree. Max gets much much better as time goes on like he got better on the TV show. From the from preview to opening night there was a big difference. And now to the MDA clip. Though maybe the MDA clip was filmed before opening night I don't know. I was one person who always thought his voice was good but not powerful ( loud) enough...that certainly has changed.
.....his voice has gotten richer and stronger and his ability to project has quadrupled.....
quadrupled??!!!! They'll have to carry me out! Your review confirms exactly what I've been thinking from a couple of posts I read somewhere.
Max is by nature a film actor (see Echoboom). His work is rich in nuance, imagination, innovation, spontaneity, backstory, and, above all, charm. It needs to be captured on film and projected on a screen, large or small, in order for the viewer to get it undiminished and undistorted.
I saw the final preview, and some of his stuff got diffused and lost impact as it travelled through space. What you're saying indicates that he has been working on adapting his technique to carry to the far reaches of a theater. It boggles the mind to contemplate what it might be like. I'll just have to go and see for myself.
i agree, max's acting is perfectly suited for independent film and probably episodic tv. which is NOT to say that he doesn't have stage chops -- boy, would i love to see what he could do w/a truly meaty stage role, musical or not -- he does. but i think as he's getting more comfortable in this role, his acting is making it to the back of the house. i was in the font of the balcony both times, and the comedy and the expressiveness made it to me, so i can only imagine the folks who are lucky enough to see him from the orchestra are getting a hefty taste of his interpretation of danny.
I saw the show on Friday and I thought it was awesome. Max and Laura did a great job. When they came out the audiance started clapping. it was so cool.
Yes, I was there on Friday as well, and thought both Max and Laura were outstanding-----they definitely deserved to be there, they were beyond amazing!!!!!!! They ARE Danny and Sandy, no question about it; I am so happy and thankful they were the one's America chose!! Not to say that Ashley and Austin were bad or anything, I just think Max and Laura fit the parts to perfection. I also loved when they came on stage and were each greeted with warm applause It was so incredible to hear their voices in person....like I said, they each deserve to be there, they are stars and will have amazing careers. I hope to see whatever else they may be in!!! They are WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dana
