How are you all?

Doing anything interesting in the near future?

I'm going to see Mamma Mia on Sunday and on Monday I'm going to the Grease performance/signing at Virgin Records. Then at the end of the month I'm going to Sarasota to see Tale of Two Cities. Those are the most exciting things in my near future.

Ooh, Eris, lemme know how Tale of Two Cities is. It's supposedly been planned for Broadway for every season since it's creation, so I'm still a little wary that it'll actually come in this year, but who knows.

And Maria, I had the opportunity to see We Will Rock You when I was in London this past August, but chose against it! Lemme know how that is, as well.

I will definitely post my review of the show though I can't promise to be unbiased when it comes to one particular person.  But I'm sure Andy will do a better job.

I have my own qualms about the show coming to Broadway which is why I'm so glad this opportunity came up.  But, as I read and hear more buzz about the show, my qualms are starting to subside.  Though, I have a feeling when it does come to Broadway there will be a different Carton in the cast.

Yay for upcoming events. My braces come off on the 10th, Kelly Clarkson's concert is on the 28th (October), and....Well, I just got back from Chicago. I saw Wicked three times. Which now brings me up to a total of 11 times. Woohoo. =)

My sweet sixteen is tomorrow! I am also going to see Drew Sarich as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables Saturday!

Oh and I am auditioning for my high school's production of Grease Sunday! I am going out for "Sandy", "Frenchie", "Marty" and "Patti" but I REALLY wanna play Sandy. I'm the only girl with the correct range and I'm only a sophomore.

I'm going to see the "So you think you can dance" tour at Penn State next week.....
I have become a real fan of that show. The dedication and work ethic of those young people is awe-inspiring.

I don't know anything about the field of dance, but I imagine that it's quite small and that opportunities for employment are sparse. It's a lot different with American Idol alumni. A good number of them are working, and a few are having huge careers.

Ray,
I couldn't agree wilth you more. So You Think You Can Dance, in my opinion, is by far the best of the reality talent shows (with all due respect to Grease-You're the One That I Want). The quality and range of dancing displayed on that show is truly remarkable. Every year I am in awe of those artists. I'm jealous of you getting to see the tour show this weekend, expecially since I will be in the hospital, on call, all weekend.

Singingdoc & Ray - I'm with you. I would go so far as to say that So You Think You Can Dance is just about the best thing I have ever seen on tv. The talent, the range, the heart, the choreo, and the compassion of the judges just made it first rate.

I was flipping around and saw a re-run of the Cabaret number the top 4 did to Mein Herr. WOW!! I re-played it about 10 times. The flips and leaps that Danny and Neil did and the kicks that Sabrina & Lacey did! I love that number anyway.

Next year I AM going to a taping of So You Think... if they have it. The Grease tapings were absolutely wonderful--I went to two--so I am sure these would be too.

I am so pleased to hear that the other contestants are also getting great opportunities from Grease You're the One That I Want. All the contestants performed their hearts out and deserve all they get.

P.S. Singingdoc - interesting name. I thought you were a voice teacher and then you mentioned hospital. What do you sing?

ddktt,
I've sung in choral groups much of my adult life. The experience I'm most proud of is having been a member of a world championship "barbershop" chorus that got to perform all over the country and all over the world with many big name stars. The word "babrbershop"I'm sure brings to mind men in striped vests with straw hats singing songs from The Music Man; however, GOOD barbershop groups have a much more varied repetoise that spans jazz through classical and even includes pop and country. Believe it or not, there's also significant choreography involved with their presentations.

Singing Doc - Ha! I just had a "feeling" you were going to say that. I'm a Sweet Adeline bass. My chorus just had a big show this last weekend. I will be seeing the current men's champion chorus, Westminster, in a few weeks. It must have really been something to be in a world champion chorus.

ddktt,
Wow what a small world. I've got to tell you, those kids from the Westminster Chorus are really impressive. You'll absolutely love their show. To me, they represent much of what's good in barbershopping.
For those of you unfamiliar with this chorus or this style of music, you should take a look on "you tube" under the title "Westminster Chorus".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6_D2XDuPUo

These guys are all under 30 (mostly college students). They actually made it through the first round of "America's Got Talent" only to be subsequently eliminated because (at least this is what I've been told) the producers didn't think America would support a group of 40-50 men. By the way I sing Lead (tenor) or Baritone.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, MrE1111 and LauraFan1!

Les Mis was AMAZING! Drew Sarich IS Jean Valjean! The best Birthday I could ask for!

My audition is today! I was gonna do "The Light In The Piazza" but I am loosing my voice (darn you Drew Sarich! jk) so I am doing the end of "Some Things Are Meant To Be" from Little Women (I'm going from "That's what living is for" to "Let me go now"). :D It still shows my range but it is easier on my voice. They are casting the show tonight so I HOPE I get Sandy :D !

Thanks for the good luck wish also, LauraFan1 :D ! I REALLY hope I get Sandy! ((I am also wearing a "Rydell High" Tee shirt I bought yesterday!)

Oh and I went up to Grease's theater yesterday. did not see Max or Laura. I pointed Allison out to my mom on the sign and she said "That's not Claudia" We saw her in lestat :D

I am retiring on February the 1st. I will still be working but I will finally have a good enough income to do some things I want to do. I plan to travel but there are too many options. I need to give it a lot of thought but I am hoping to go to the Israel for the fifth time. Also I am in school for computer networking and at the rate I am going I may be 68 before I finish. There is much more but those are the highlights.

For my birthday my husband's gotten us tickets for The Drowsy Chaperone (in Cleveland on national tour), but an even greater treat will be hearing Yo-Yo Ma in November.

BTW today's Yo-Yo Ma's birthday.

My Grease audition was yesterday. I was number 2 and went second. I sang my song and I belted it (Which I am NOT aloud to do cause it hurts my throat but the director said the louder the better and now my throat hurts a little). I suprised EVERYONE in the room and the judges with my voice. Then they had me go on the stage and read Sandy's part of dialogue with Danny. It was the one where he asks "What happened to your ear?" and she goes "Huh? Oh nothing. Just an accident." and then they had me do the Frenchy speach about the Teen Angel. I did REALLY well with the Sandy speach (Danny was REALLY HOTT (But he is dating my friend whose a senior) and I just became my version of Sandy. it was sooooooo cool!!!!!)

All right, so the cast list goes up tomorrow at my school! I am sooooooo scared cause a LOT of girls went out for Sandy. They said they might do two casts and one cast do it Friday and the other do it Saturday (Just the girls change. They guys stay the same cause we had more girls and boys try out)

I'll keep ya posted about which part I get!

We have two birthdays coming up in our house--Super and his little sister. No trip to NYC for the occasion as Super is hoping, but should be festive anyway.

I coach the youngest's soccer team. We just won our game against the first place team and have a great chance at advancing to tournament. Yay!

Super is cheering for the Yankees in the playoffs, hoping they can hang on against the Indians (sorry, Eris!)

Hope everyone on the board is having a great month.

I'll have to watch it to see ya :D I don't usually watch it though....anyone know what channel it's on?

I don't feel very lucky that we're doing Grease. I have NOTHING to do. It sucks but I'm still doing it. :)

Oh and we watched Grease the Movie in Chorus class today. I realized I HATE Olivia Neuton John and John Trovolta. :P

I like Max and Laura better :)

OKAY HAD MY FIRST GREASE REHEARSAL TODAY! and boy am I tired!
We learned the dances to "Those Magic Changes" and "Born To Hand Jive" We did the whole song of TMC but only up to the solos in BTHJ. We danced from 6pm to 8:30pm straight with one break for water. It was fun but TIRING! TMC is funny when they guys dance.

Okay gonna stop now.....LOL

GREASE THE MOVIE IS ON SATURDAY OR SUNDAY!

Sorry for the double post!

Had Grease rehearsal again today and yesterday but today was more fun!

We learned the Beauty School Dropout dance (which is really cute) and the dance for the song "I saw a dead skunk on the highway...". Oh and we got to watch "Greased Lighting" "Freddy, My love" (with no Marty) and "Summer Nights".

BIG NEWS!

Our Marty DROPPED OUT! For real! Marty is open! They've been reviewing the auditions of everyone who auditioned for the part (mine included) and their gonna pick a new one.

I HOPE IT'S ME!

Honestly? I was disappointed. I am a HUGE fan of the movie (I can pretty much recite the script, as can many other people). The show just didn't match the originality of the film. It followed the movie's plot directly...one could go so far as to say that it's the screenplay with songs. At 2 hours and 40 minutes, there's a lot dialogue that can be trimmed , as well as a few songs which could be cut.

The music isn't very memorable, a few good numbers ("Roll in Zee Hay," and "Please Don't Touch Me" are the standouts in terms of original music), plus Puttin' on the Ritz, which was turned into a showstopping production number of enormous proportions.

Cast was very good...nobody can replace Gene Wilder (who was sitting in the 8th row and received a 3 minute standing ovation when he exited during the intermission) or the late, great Madeline Khan, but they're able to make very strong and differing character choices. Standouts include Christopher Fitzgerald as Igor and Andrea Martin as Frau Blucher (neigh), who I'm sure will be recognized come awards season.
