Need to get out of the house and since I have off on Wed I'm thinking about going to see Grease. Tickets are so expensive though. I'll have to keep looking for tickets.

you can always check the TKTS discount ticket booth in times square at the marriot marquis. they had grease tickets last week so maybe they will this week. you can go there and see if they have any and if not, head to the theatre and pay full price. just a thought
you can't guarantee that they will have them...but on the TKTS web site...it said they had them last week. it didn't say how many shows, but it's a possibility
I am in envy. You just have to think about going to see Grease. It is a major plan and opportunity for me.
I KNOW----I am jealous too!! Being from Minnesota, it's a major deal to get to the show, and I do plan to get back there next year if I'm lucky. You are so lucky to even have the option :) Ha ha ha ha, I'd be going so often if I lived around there. Ooooh, I would love the opportunity to wander around the city again, I was there a month ago today
Dana, there are a TON of Minnesota people going to the Grease show this week because of MEA (a Minnesota teacher's association) conference and the kids are off school all week. Laura will have many people from home to see this week, including some of her elementary and high school teachers, theatre buddies, and others--because they're all off school. I ask them all to call me when they're out there and I get tremendous vicarious enjoyment from them doing so! Some will call when they're in line at the theatre and tell me about fun conversations they're having with others; some have called when they're sitting in the theatre just before the show starts, and of course I get calls afterwards telling me know how much fun they had and about seeing Laura. It's not as good as being there myself, but it sure is fun to share in others excitement. And I get to send hugs to my daughter through others and she sends some back home to me through them. Gosh, makes me miss her...but soon the hugs will start coming back to me from all the friends heading out there this week. if anyone else on this board goes to the show this week, you may find Minnesota has taken over the theatre! I told them all to cheer wildly and have fun so hopefully they'll all make great audiences! Wish I could be there too...
I looked at the TKTS web site, and it said Grease tickets were never available there. I wouldn't count on getting tickets there. Tickets seem to be going quickly, even through Nov & Dec.
From TKTS website:
Show Title Type Venue Open Close Listed at TKTS Grease Musical B'way 08/19/07 Open Run Never
I ended up deciding on another show. Grease is on the list of shows that I said I'd see with someone else and since they can't go (middle of the week/short notice) I'm going to see something else. Even with my upcoming trip in two weeks (15 days but who's counting) I just need to get out for even just a few hours.

Hello Jane!!! How are you doing? So good to see you on here :) Arrghhh, I am so jealous of all the MN people going out to see the show----I just know they will LOVE it!!!!! Oh wow, that is so great that you've had friends call from being in the line, and before and after the show, that's so nice and sweet. That would make me so happy, just to be so close to the action, living vicariously through them, ha ha ha. I just have to say it again: Laura has THE best voice, and I'm so happy to be able to listen to it whenever I want, ha ha! Please let Laura know how much that CD is loved and cherished!!!!!!! Oh, I also wanted to ask: did the photo's make it to ok? I sent them a few weeks ago, I'm hoping they found their way to you Hope you are having a good night! Dana

I too envy the fact that you can take a train in to the city and see whatever shows you want to. We are coming again for Christmas and will be there 2 weeks this time. We are going to see The Little Mermaid, The Grinch, Young Frankenstein, Curtains, Altar Boys (I was the only one that saw it and everyone wants to see Chad), Drowsey Chaperone, Xanadu and Jersey Boys. I am thinking I would also like to see the Ritz if it is still scheduled to be open and maybe get in another show to see Ashley. This time we have to ride the red bus for the little one and we are all looking forward to that.
Mostly, we are looking forward to spending Christmas with the whole family. We have always all been together and this year it is going to be special being in NY for the holidays. Can't wait.
Don't take your little one to The Ritz...unless you're EXTREMELY open minded. Even then, it's no kids show.
The only shows he is going to see is The little mermaid, Grinch, Altar boys, Hairspray and of course he will see Grease several times. I do my homework and we dont all go to each show.

New York at Christmas is so much fun. Rockafeller Center is definitely something you should see - the tree, the rink, etc.
I'm thinking about heading up to the city on December 26. This year marks ten years since I lost my father so I'm taking off work to do something. Don't know what yet. But certainly something.

Living and working here, I'm the master of the discount. See the tree at Rockefeller Center, but go skating in Bryant Park (42nd and 6th). It'll end up costing about $25 for one person to go skating (if that's your thing) at RC - between admission and skate rentals. In Bryant Park, it's $10 to rent the skates, free to the general public.
It's so much fun. NY in the Winter is my favorite time of year. It just makes me happier than ever, each year.
I was in NYC when the weather was fine, except that morning there was a tornado touchdown in Brooklyn, and it was very hectic. I couldn't imagine NYC in the winter with snow in the way. With a tornado and flooding underground, those two things practically paralized the city all morning. What does snow do to the city???
Both of those occurences were exceptions, not the rule. We do get snow in NYC and sometimes it is crippling to the city, but those blizzards have been few and far between. In a few days, one or two really, the city is up and running, with ugly piles of grey snow at some corners.
We hardly ever close the schools due to weather conditions. The last time that happened was so long ago, I can't remember!
Wow. And here in Kansas, we can count on at least two or three snow days a year. Of course, we are mostly rural, and often buses can't get in and out of country lanes.
Some year, I'll get to NYC for Christmas. I imagine it's wonderful.
Dana, I did get your pictures--thank you for sending them! And Rachel, how wonderful your family can go to New York for a couple weeks together over Christmas! We aren't at the point yet where we can take that much time or have that much discretionary dollars to spend but I am not complaining! I've gotten to go to New York 3 times so far since Laura's been out there and that would be out of the question for a lot of other people. We have many blessings. I will be taking my 83 year old mother for a quick turn-around trip in November to see the show. We are leaving on my birthday--Nov. 16, seeing the show that night and then coming home already the next night. My Mom is aging pretty quickly right now and I am so grateful I can take her. A longer stay would be too hard on her so this is a special trip just for her. Laura's birthday is Nov. 19 so we will get a brief chance to celebrate together. We have gotten to see Nathan more often as he has flown to Minneapolis regularly to finish up a number of his photography jobs here. And it has been a tremendous reassurance to us knowing that Laura has him to help her so much. It is great that you can be as available as you are to offer Max all the help, encouragement, and support. It ihas been such dreary weather the last couple weeks here in Minnesota that I'm especially wishing I was going with one of the many groups to NewYork THIS week! But as I said earlier, I'll live vicariously through others. I hope everyone is having a great fall.

Have a great trip! And I would definitely recommend seeing Ashley in "Hairspray!" She's wonderful as Amber! :)
We have already seen her in the show, just wanted ot see her again if we can. she was terrific.
That's great that you saw her in the show before! :) I'm sure that she appreciated having you there to see her! :) I'd love to see the show again too! I hope that your family has a great holiday season!
Bumping this back up because I was looking to go see a show on December 26 which is, personally, a difficult day. Seems most of the discounts are not valid December 23-January 3. This seems super lame to me because I think this is the best time to have the discounts. But I guess most tourists don't care about seeing a show for half the price. Lame.

Try TKTS, off Broadway or TDF for something more reasonable. Standing room will probably be available that week, as many of the shows will be sold out.
