Thanks for the updates! Hopefuly they'll go back up again after that great performance on the Tony's last night. Now that is sure to sell a lot of tickets!
I sincerely think that performance will sell tickets that might not have otherwise been sold.
OK, according to broadwayworld.com, Grease is down 2% this week. Could that be because of last night? Or is last night included in that figure.
Although several shows were up last week.......
MrE? Anyone?
I'm not MrE, but I do qualify as anyone.
Honestly? I think it's too soon to say that people stayed away in droves because they heard Taylor Hicks had joined the show. I think it was normal fluctuation. Sales go up, sales go down. I have high hopes for next week's numbers because of last night's performance.

I wouldn't say that 2% is "in droves". Sales went up 3% the first week Taylor performed in Grease, so what you're saying is that they also went up because of him!

No, they did 8 shows this week just like every week, except instead of doing a Sunday show, they did two shows Wednesday. 2% is really not a significant number.
The figures are listed as of 7/15. Although Sunday night was cancelled for the Tonys, 8 performances are listed. Does anyone know when they did the 8th performance? Wed. night maybe?

I agree; as I said, I think it was normal fluctuation.

Thank you Ray! I thought I had a mind then I forgot where I put it. Losing one's mind is no fun at all!!

Have you seen mine laying around anywhere?
I promise if I find mine, I will look for yours. I know I put it in a safe place if only I could remember where that safe place is.....

Grease was up 11.7% in attendence over last week! Woo! According to BroadwayWorld.Com, the audience was at 98.8% capacity (last week it chimed in at only 87.1% capacity). Also, the show had the 6th largest increase in attendance amongst the 35 shows tracked on Broadway this week. It hasn't been this full since March 23, 2008.
It is also the beginning of the summer season. Many of the shows were up, but happy to see that one of the largest was Grease.
The last time they sold this many tickets was back in May, Memorial Day weekend. Wonder how long it will be before they make back their initial investment.
I say good for all the cast and crew of GREASE! As crazy as I am about Taylor, I think it's silly to think that any one person is responsible for the increase. It takes a lot of people to put this show on every night.

Using statistIcal analysis, the attendance for Grease (based on the demonstrated variance of attendance) would need to change (either up or down---from one week to another) by approximately 7.7% to be greater than a chance difference. Of course, it was this past week. Note though that given the present data base established a change of 2% or 3% is essentially meaningless.
What would have meaning is a string of changed attendance in the same direction.
But, as Mr E has noted more than once, the number of heads (or bottoms on seats) means nothing. It is the dollars that count. In this respect the fact of the production playing in a small house attenuates the profit. E.g., a 100% attendance in a large house makes more actual dollars than in a small house. If one is interested in figuring profit trends accurately, ticket price differences would have to be figured in too. We have no way of knowing the attendance rates in seats of different cost though of course the show's managers do.
Show business has just as much emphasis on business as show. It is all a matter of perspective and that aspect is of great interest to me.
Note too that any change in cast costs money and lessens profit a bit--extra rehearsal time, costume changes, perhaps some re-write, advertising, extra harmonicas etc..
But the show has made some money on its initial investment though not a lot, relatively speaking.
Yea, extra harmonica's! Good one! So is Taylor getting paid more than Stephen was? Any guesses?
I don't have any idea but I looked it up on Salary.com and this is what I got. That's hard to see. It says Low 37,691, median around $50,000 and High a little over $80,000/year

That's way off. First off the minimum salary is $1485/wk. That comes out to $77,000 a year. And that's for people in the chorus that don't understudy anyone and that have never had another broadway show and didn't negotiate. A lot of principals usually make around $2000 a week. $104,000 a year. Lead roles make anywhere from $2500 and up. $130,000 plus. Hugh Jackman was making $75,000 a week. Not that anyone in Grease is of that caliber, but that's the very high side of the pay scale. There are many variables at work. But no one is making $32,000 a year on Broadway. That's what unions are for.
To justify the extra funds being spent on harmonicas......
The following quote came from a review of the CD Sugar Blue ~ Code Blue
At the end of the day you have to acknowledge people like John Popper and Taylor Hicks for keeping the Blues Harmonica alive in pop music, but they wouldn't exist without someone like Sugar Blue.
Taylor and John Popper will be featured in the indie movie Pocket Full of Soul. This documentary about harmonica players will be released in the near future.

That's good to know. I thought it sounded too low.

I will have to agree with DogsandBirds and say GO GREASE.
I am sure that all the recent publicity has helped to propel Grease forward in sales.
The show is a group effort and so are the results ............. Tony's, R &K, a new Teen Angel , the Shea Stadium appearance and the new ad campaign!!!!
You guys are all getting pretty defensive. I didn't say word one about Taylor not having anything to do with it. Just that it might ALSO have something to do with the performance on the Tony's.
Okay, I guess you\'re talking in some sort of code, because I have no idea what you mean by that. I just think it\'s odd to see how much money someone makes being talked about on a forum, when no one but that person knows. It\'s also not something that is relavent to this discussion, or that I think should be talked about. Just sayin...
It does seem tacky. Plus, it's not like anybody actually knows his salary. I don't understand how the stated amounts would fund all those other projects mentioned. But this is not the place to discuss this; there is a Taylor Hicks forum so we don't have to talk about him here.
Thanks grannygreaser. Thats awesome that the gross is still holding strong. I would only guess that for the next two weeks would be the same, then a little increase with the new leads. Should be awesome
That is really good. I'm kind of surprsed that sales are down, but like someone else said, as soon as those new leads are in, those sales are gonna go right back up again.
I wouldn't consider .2% to be down and in fact Taylor didn't perform several days last week so it may be because of that. After all he's gettin STAR billing.
No one should argue that TH is one of the reasons Grease is selling so well. He has his fans and they are buying tickets. Grease has continued to do well throughout it's run and TH gives it an extra boost.
98% Three weeks in a row ia awesome ! Grease is a hot ticket, always was and hopefully always will be.People of all ages relate to this musical, and the fact that the cast is super talented doesn't hurt !
...Grease has continued to do well throughout it's run and TH gives it an extra boost...That's a good thing!
Who's Taylor Hicks? (Just Kidding) I am aware he is an American Idol winner. The truth is I don't watch Americann Idol or anything else produced by Fox.
I did watch "Grease, You're The One I Want" Because it was produced by BBC, a classier network. However, these days I'm too busy with work & personal life to watch any TV at all, unless it is Grease related.
I don't watch AI either, Bill, but yes I knew who Taylor Hicks was as well. I know who alot of the former Idols are even though I don't watch the show.....
