Not that I can pretend to understand how the powers that be determine the success of a show, but Grease was in the top 50% of Grosses-15th out of 29 shows. That sounds pretty good to me.
I think this is generally a slow time of year for Broadway, isn't it? It seems like a lot of shows are down across the board. Going up a bit is a good sign (I would think it would be) and I'm sure it will pick once the holiday season begins.
Thank you, Ace!! LOL = all of us 'addicted' souls will keep the show going, even though we may lose our homes in the process... Just put my cardboard box outside the stage door...
It will never get up to Taylor Hicks levels during the summer. He was a huge draw, obviously. Taylor increased grosses $150K/week according to the NY Post.
An increase of 3.2%, $443,596 is nowhere near what it was during the summer. It's pretty pathetic if you ask me.

Taylor might have been responsible for bringing in his fans, but it was the combined effort of all the acters that made it a success, plus the fact that it was summer played a big part in it as well. Didn't you notice the drop the last week Taylor was still there? That's because the summer months were over, and most people can't travel out side of those months. Also, if you compare Grease to the other Broadway shows, it is doing very well for this time of the year, and considering the economy.
What's pathetic is that someone actually thinks that Taylor Hicks, who is by no means a superstar, was the only one responsible for the shows success.

The show is still doing great (even in this horrible economy, and slow time of year for Broadway) because the ENTIRE cast is great! The show is great fun!
It's obvious that Teen Angel is not really a TH fan, or she wouldn't make a post like the one that was made. It sounds like another case of "let's pretend to be a member of the SP and say something nasty, so that people will have a reason to dislike his fans."
It's wonderful that the gross went up again this week. Most shows went down, so it's a reason to smile, for sure. Everyone knows what the grosses were, when Taylor was TA over the summer. No one has to go around proclaiming his ability to fill the theater seats. People here (regular "Greasers") aren't stupid. They know exactly what's going on.
I respectfully disagree, azure. I think Teen Angel (with her lovely Taylor avi) is indeed a Taylor fan. But I agree with your reason for skepticism -- the show is doing well because of all the actors, and that should be obvious to all.

Yes, and in my opinion, it will continue to do well because everyone needs a good laugh during troubling times! Musical comedy is great medicine and quite the escape!

Azure, there is no reason for you to make a FALSE accusation like that. I have seen several SP members, using their real SN's, saying very similar things to what this "new " poster just said, and one was just banned yesterday(Griz), so it doesn't surprise me to see this "new" one saying something very similar to what she had said many times.
Yes, the long time Grease posters should know whats going on because they've seen nasty posts made by her, and several others, in the past about this very same thing.

What is the purpose of making such an inflamatory remark, other than to rile everyone up ! In this economy any increase is a plus.Grease is holding it's own and that's a good thing ! Hey I'm all for frreedom of speech but maybe putting a little more thought into what you write before you write it might be a good thing.

While I think Taylor was an asset to the show, he appeared in the prime of the summer season when typically, shows sell pretty well.
Typically this is a slow time for the theater. Having a increase and staying in the 70s is a pretty good accomplishment for a show that has been on Broadway three times and is in the second year of its run.
I'm glad Grease is doing well - it's a great show. After seeing it four times in NYC I still want more. It's really a fun show to watch and I do enjoy the talent. If I still lived in NY I'd be going every month, never tire of seeing Grease
I want to see Spring Awakening. Has anyone seen that?
I liked it. It's very different from the shows on Broadway, not bright and breezy, but I enjoyed it just the same. Definitely not a show to take young children to see!
