Using microphones? The quality is terrible?!

That was from a Great Performances show. Audio was not what it is today, no body mikes. Audio quality was not what it is now.

Spring Awakening still uses microphones. All of a sudden, someone pulls a microphone out of their pocket or whatever and sings.

Spring Awakening use hand-held mics for artistic purposes. These hand-held mics were used out of necessity.

I think Barry Bostwick is a hoot in this! In spite of the 1970's production values it has a great energy. I wish I could have seen the whole show. Was this pre-Rocky Horror?

This was indeed pre-Rocky. I believe Rocky was '75, this is (most-likely) 72.

It was a little too cartoonish for my taste but I suppose for the 1970's it was something new.

Out of loyalty, I was prepared to hate it, but I couldn't....I loved it. It's in the style of my favorite song in the present show, "Mooning".

The clip is from a 1982 PBS Great Performances, and even 10 years after the opening, the two leads are so convincing and well matched, their actual age is irrelevant. From Bostwick's current work, I was shocked that he was ever so inventive, funny and charismatic.

This performance is in the style that I think is right for Grease.

Ray - I couldn't agree more!
