My daughter and mother are heading to see Grease on March 16th, the 2:00 show....needless to say none of us have ever been to Broadway or NYC for that matter. So, my question is what should we wear to a daytime performance? Also, where should we eat that is not too expensive?
Theater is not the "event" it once was - jeans are fine. Just make sure to listen to the weather beforehand to make sure you're appropriately dressed for early-NY-spring.
Re: food - depending on your eating style - Kodama Sushi (on 45th between 8th and 9th) is very good. Also very good is Chicken Bar, right next door to Kodama (it's a fast food place devoted to variety of chicken.) The Manhattan equivalent of Chick-Fil-A.
Thanks MrE....we are all so excited, especially my 12 y/o....it was a very BIG surprise Christmas gift. She had asked for it and then laughed and said "I know I am dreaming, but it nevers hurts to dream". It was so cool on Christmas morning when we gave her the DVD of Grease and taped a note telling her that her grandmother, mom and herself would be going for St. Patricks day.
I still " dress" for the theatre out of respect for the performers and the show. But I don't get overly dressed up. Just slacks and a nice blouse.
Also, when I went to see Grease I ate at the Evergreen which is on the same street as the B-A (47th between 7th & 6th). A little diner that had great fries. You also may want to check menu pages. You can search not only by location but by what type of fare you're looking for. There are online menus with prices so you can get an idea about how much each one is.

Eris has it right on the money regarding dressing properly.
As far as food, if you are making it a special day, try Trecolore right next to the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Not diner prices, but the food is excellent and dinner prices run from $20 up. I ate there the last two times I saw the show and was satisfied both times.
ENJOY THE SHOW. Max and Laura are great about signing autographs at the stage door after the show.
