I was going back and forth about whether or not to post this. It has nothing to do with Grease or even Broadway but I figure it should be shared. As someone who lost her father I really feel for Matilda right now. Yeah, there's a lot of difference between being eighteen and two but it's still very hard.  Also, Heath was only a month and one day younger than me.  Something like this can bring to mind thoughts of our own mortality.

Unnecessary. Just my $0.02.

I like the fact you are acknowledging a loss, however we should keep this board related to Grease. The last thing we need this forum to transition into is a Britney, Lindsay, Paris gossip site.

There is absolutely no danger of that.

Thanks so much Eris for posting, I had heard about Heath, and too feel for his daughter. It's nice to have a place to talk about these issues and vent any emotion.

This board belongs to everyone and not to a limited number of you who feel like you "own" the content and "own" the market on being in the absolute know about everything broadway.

Thank you Eris for posting about Heath's death so that we can take our eyes off two wonderful kids (Max and Laura) but very human kids, to focus on a family that is in despair.
I am sure that Max was sad to hear about his death and am sure he thought about him all day and about his family.

As for me and my two cents, it was worth seeing the tribute on a board that I come to each day.

Well said... Catastrophes are happening to our military people every day, but this is a theatrical site, and when an unexpected disaster strikes a member of the community, it should be observed.

Sam Harris has posted, in my opinion, a very lovely vlog about Heath's passing. For those of you who don't know Sam played Doody in the last revival of Grease on Broadway. He was also on the critically-acclaimed, yet sadly canceled, The Class on CBS. In this vlog Sam mentions his alcoholic and drug-addicted past which, I think, makes him the perfect commentator on this tragedy. I've been sending this link to a lot of people because he has so many worthwhile things to say.

There's a lot more to Sam Harris than his sensational rendition of "Those Magic Changes", which is all I knew.
Thanks for the link... I'll tune in often.

What does Sam Harris' past have anything to do with relating to Heath Ledger? The pill bottles found in Ledgers apartment were nearly full. The $20 bill that was forensically tested came out clean and surely went into the pocket of the examiner instead of to the 2 year old child which he left behind. There are no conclusions that this was a drug related death, and if it ever is with the current evidence, I am almost positive it was purely accidental.

To relate drug and alcohol use to someone who's reason of death is currently unknown is pure rubbish. There is no conclusion of anything now other than that Ledger is definitely dead. If you want to mourn, let me not step on the feet on the people that feel the need to let this out as celebrities I cared about have passed before and I had nowhere to discuss it. If you care about Heath and his family, the least you can do is knock off the gossip and stick to the facts. Have some respect for the people he left behind. There are family members of celebrities that cruise these boards and I am sure they wouldn't want people speculating in a negative way in a situation like this god forbid something out of the ordinary happened.

I just read that the Westboro Baptist Church will be picking Heath's funeral. A lot of times they say they're going to show up somewhere and picket but then not show up. But I'm thinking that they will show up this time because of how high profile it will be.

For those of you who don't know the WBC is a hate group who masquerades as a church. They first gained national "fame" by picketing the funeral of Matthew Shepard carrying signs that suggested he had deserved to die because he was gay.

When I was in college my school gave an honorary degree to Billie Jean King which caught the eye of Reverend Phelps and his followers. They showed up on campus with their signs and we ignored them.

Personally, I'll just never understand how people can have this much hate in their hearts. And then to teach such hatred to their children. And, a lot of the time, the kids don't know the difference. They're cloistered from the "real world" so they don't know how false the teachings really are. They can't fo to "regular" schools because the ones who are hated are there. Heaven forbid they have any contact with us.

The WBC has a "list" of people they "target" and you but your booty that most of the performers on Broadway are on that list. Heck, we're probably on that list by proxy. We're theatregoers. We give our money to organizations than "enable" homosexuality. If they knew me they'd probably hate me because not only am I a "fag enabler" but I'm Irish. Quick, someone stop me!

They have a "picket schedule" on their website and I noticed that not only are the Oscars on there but many of the Pope's planned stops on his visit later this year. The schedule only goes up to late April but you know the Tony's will be on that schedule. That's probably their most hated awards show of them all. They're probably at the Tony's and Oscars every year but we never hear about it. Gotta love it. The press isn't always the greatest thing in the world but by not reporting on the WBC they're not "enabling" them to get the attention they seek.

I think we should all be "enablers". At least in the eyes of the WBC. There's nothing I'd rather be. Do something wonderful for someone today.  Love is stronger than hate.

Phelps lives in Topeka, KS. Guess where I live?

Everyone here hates them. I've read biographies about the Phelps' lives. He raised those kids and treats his wife with maliciousness and sadism. At least one of the sons changed his name and moved away, but several of the grown kids are lawyers, so they get away with far too much.

We used to see them protesting locally. Lately they travel more. Imagine the discussions we had in the car as we passed those reprehensible signs. We taught the kids to simply ignore them, and then, each time, we've talked later to the kids about why those teachings are wrong, and why. Ha! The Phelps' would hate to know how much they help the majority of folks come to a better understanding of real love, without regard to sexual orientation.

Early on, I heard that Ledger's family would hold a private funeral in Australia, and that the Phelps' wouldn't try to get a Visa. Now I hear that they ARE having a service in LA. I hope the Phelps' aren't present. The more attention they get, the harder they fight to gain more.

You've got a great idea, Eris. Let's all do something loving for someone today.

Oh, yes. I want to add that of 71 members in the WBC recently, 60 were Phelps's. I have no doubt that the other 11 are married to a Phelps. It's a cult. Four of the kids have broken away and SAY it is a cult -- and that they don't believe their dad is even religious anymore. It's all about the power.
