Thank you everyone for being so helpful! Just a few more questions and I am out of here and gone to NYC!! lol ~Where is that little broadway shop with all the stuff from the different shows? Ive seen pictures and I really would love to go there. ~Is it better to rush out to the stage door during the curtain call to get autographs? ~If anyone has stage-doored at Legally Blonde, how was it? ~And I am open to any advice/information like the weather (I leave this Sunday) best times of days to go certain places, best reasonably priced places to eat...ect
Thank you all so much, I know this is probaly annoying I am just sooooo excited!
I don't know what the status of the stage door is these days but in the past it was best to get out there as quickly as possible. So I would suggest moving as quickly as possible without bowling anyone over.
As for restaurants I would recommend checking out Menu Pages. Not only can you search by cuisine (Italian, Burgers, Coffee shop, etc) but you can search by area.
It's been like early spring the last couple days but that could change very quickly. I'd recommend short sleeves with long pants and a spring jacket. But bring something heavier just in case.
There are actually a LOT of little Broadway shops spread out through the area. I know there's one right by the Helen Hayes (where Xanadu is playing) on West 44th.

I don't think the stage door has been near as busy in the winter as it was all summer and fall. I definitely wouldn't leave the theatre before the show is completely over--that last reprise is really fun. It takes Laura and Max at least 15 minutes to get out there and I think the rest of the cast needs close to that too. They have to change clothes, return mics, turn in wigs etc. I've also heard they continue to stay until everyone has their autograph so I don't think you really have to hurry out there. Definitely don't leave the theatre and miss that final reprise of songs. One of my favorite casual deli style places to eat is called Cranberry's and it is just eat of Broadway on 45th Street about one long block, on the north side of the street. Why I like it is that they have a great hot food bar and a great cold salad bar with many varieties of food on each. They also have a great display of fresh fruit on the cold bar and I loved that. You pay so much per pound for all the food you take on your plate. There's definitely nothing special about the seating etc--in fact most of the seating is just at long tables upstairs, but I just really liked the variety of food. I think there's delis like this all over but that happens to be the one we've found and liked the best. Others have mentioned Trecolori, the Italian restaurant right next to the Brooks Atkinson theatre and we have liked that too. If you ever want to really treat yourself find one of the Brazilian steak houses! For about $50.00 per person you can get all-you-can eat salad bar and about 15 varieties of meats that they bring to your table on long skewers and cut off slices. It's an expensive night out but when you're hungry for meat and want to treat yourself, that is really fun. I know New York has one on about 51st Street if I remember right but I can't remember the name of it. We took Nate there with us one evening while Laura was at the show and he and my husband ate like there was no tomorrow! Good stuff. Have fun!
the stage door is crazy fun! don't rush out there though...the finale is awesome!
as for legally blonde...i have no clue. it will probably be the same as grease.
if you are looking for places to eat...there are tons of fun restaurants! *jeckel and hyde *carmine's *bubba gump shrimp co *hard rock cafe *espn zone *planet hollywood etc.
and if you are looking for a cheap place to eat lunch...check out cafe metro it's a chain in the city that has sandwiches, pasta, pizza, soups, salads, and stuff like that they are all over the city and i am never disappointed there
if you need other fun stuff to do...check out *madame tusauds wax museum *toys r us in time square *the museum of natural history *the metropolitan museum of art *bryant park *the disney story *the 4 floor abercrombie and fitch and a ton of other stuff
The doorman at the Palace Theatre, where Legally Blonde plays, has a fantastic system. Because the door is on a side-street, he's able to set the barricades up 1-person deep, all the way down the block. So the actors down the line.
As far as food, if you're looking for a cheap fast-food place for a quick bite, my recommendation is called Chicken Bar, located on 45th, across the street from the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
Carmine's is fun - family style italian food, HUGE portions. You need at least four people to really enjoy the place and definitely reservations.
I would stay away from chain places. If you have been to Planet Hollywood or Hard Rock anywhere else, try going to place that you won't find everywhere. Tricolore, next to the theater is a favorite of the cast. The Eatery on 9th Avenue is fabulous and very New York trendy. Take a walk down 46 Street which is also called Restuarant Row (between 8th and 9th Avenues) and take a look at the menus there. Many of them have a pre-fix pre-theater menu and there are many wonderful places to eat there. If you want deli in midtown, try Carnegie Deli. The sandwiches are HUGE and it's just a fun New York sort of place. Their pastrami is amazing. Try a new cuisine you don't have locally, Greek, Indian, whatever.
As to what to do? Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Ground Zero (WTC,) museums galore, Empire State Building, Rockerfeller Center, 34th Street Macy's, Central Park, particularly the zoo for the Polar Bears, FAO Schwarz, Bloomingdales, stroll around St. Marks place near 2nd Avenue and then walk to Washington Square (the village) so many churches and other places of worship, particularly St. Patrick's (parade on 5th Avenue on Monday!), Times Square at night to see the lights (go after you see a show,) walk down Canal Street and eat in Chinatown, just for the experience of it.
So much to do, you will never do it all in a week or even a month I think. I just love my city!
for food, just be wary of price, i ate at the olive garden, it was kinda expensive... everything is marked up. think of the prices at normal olive garden plus like 33% more.
for stage door, i went last tuesday and was thinking about doing stage door. i stayed till the end and took my time leaving. when i was outside there was hardly anyone outside, maybe because it is a week day. i didn't stage door, but i want to next time i go.
