A question for those who know the City

Does anyone have a suggestion for a NYC shop that makes and delivers food gift baskets? There are a lot of internet sites, but most ship from wherever they are located. I'm looking for someplace local that you guys know wouldn't be a rip-off.
Thanks.

Do you know the person you're sending a gift to? If not I suggest saving your money because any gifts, especially food, from strangers (even those from a third party) are often tossed or given away. In today's world these people need to be careful because there are so many crazy people out there. Also, so many people have food allergies. What if you end up sending them something they can't have? Too much risk involved. Unless you personally know the performer I wouldn't suggest you throw your money away. If you really want to spend the money make a donation to a charity in the performer's name and have a card send to the theatre letting them know what's been done. My favorites are The Christopher Reeve Foundation and BC/EFA.

Eris is absolutely correct. Food from a stranger will not be consumed. Also, the dressing rooms are very tiny and they have no place to put things.

Lovely thought to give something to charity!

Another great point.  Most of them share dressing rooms and having a lot of little "bric-a-brac" can be overwhelming.  Based on the "behind the scenes" videos that I've seen only Max and Laura have their own dressing rooms.  I believe everyone else shares.  With so many people sharing so small a space little things like stuffed animals and such can turn into a nuisnace.

Personally, I don't send anything to anyone I don't know.  But if I REALLY wanted to send something it would be a simple card or I'd do the charity thing.

Why do I have the feeling there is going to be a dumpster full of fruit baskets and teddy bears in purple jackets in the alley behind the theater...

I have a feeling that things that are sent to one of the actors that he or she doesn't want don't get put in the dumpster. I am sure toys like stuffed animals go to a charity, although I am not sure about food items. How good would Taylor feel if he knew that his fans donated money to charity in his name? I think that would be fabulous.

If Taylor Hicks is using the same dressing room as Stephen Buntrock, then he is sharing a dressing room and that room is small, although they all are.

The backstage area is VERY small. There isn't enough room for egos. Unless he made Max or Laura give up their dressing rooms he is sharing. I was backstage at a different theatre once and there wasn't even a dressing room for some cast members. Just a large room with blankets set up for privacy.

I have to agree Eris.  I have been backstage at other theatres and there is absolutely no room for dodads in them!  Send Taylor a card and don't waste your money!  smile

Some of you people need to get a grip on reality. Actual reality, not the programs on TV.

furious.gifSo what you are claiming is that Mr. Hicks is a bigger star than Olivier? than Angela Lansbury? Than Jason Robards? than Carol Channing? than Christopher Plummer? Is this what you claim, Dolly?

I suggest you read Broadway history - today.

Hicks is not a bigger star than Marlon Brando or Paul Newman. Let's tone down the Hicks-mania,

And by the way, regarding the fact that Hicks Won a reality show: so did Max and Laura, folks.weirdface.gif

Taylor deserves his own dressing room! He is the biggest star ever to hit the boards on Broadway. Max and Laura may have won a reality show, but Taylor won THE reality show and is the greatest winner they have ever had. I'm not sure even David Cook with his 57 million votes can out-do Taylor's success. You don't see him on Broadway, do you?

I sent him a nice basket of shrimp from Bubba Gumps. I hope they don't smell up the backstage too much!

I think you need to go back under your bridge.

Thank you Zeus! Some of the messages that are being posted here verge on the irrational. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Grease board not the Taylor Hicks board.

I rather resent people feeling they have to call other people names for liking or not liking a certain person. I truly think the person who said any who doesn't like Mr. Hicks is a "commie" needs to calm down just a bit.

I'm glad Taylor fans want to support the show but he is not going to get his own dressing room. Taylor may be a star in Hollywood, but Max and Laura are the stars of the show. Jenny and Matt are the supporting principles and don't even get their own dressing rooms. Teen Angel is on stage for a total of 6 minutes and wears one costume. He does not have six or seven changes and does not need to put on Patty Simcox's huge pineapple dress. Allison does that in a room the size of a bathroom that she shares with two other actresses. Don't hate me...I'm just putting it into perspective. I think sending a card or a scrap book is nice. Just don't go all out, because he isn't going to have the room to put anything anywhere.

MrE.......come Sat/Mon, they will have no choice but to grip reality. The ENTIRE cast of Grease can SING and this revival didn't get that great of reviews. I don't suspect that the reviews for Taylor will be any different. Although I like Taylor, I am fully prepared for some negativity!!!

Who knows if the critics will even review his performance? Frequently, they do not review replacements for smaller parts. Even so, it seems that no matter what was said, the few who have hijacked this forum for their idol worship (no pun intended) would say it was the critics fault or whatever. I personally ignored the critic's reviews of Grease and have enjoyed it every time I have seen it.

I hope he has a successful run in any case.

DogsandBirds....................I know what you are saying. I completely agree. I guess my post had 2 points........1) I was able to voice my opinion and 2) If Taylor does get reviews from critics, the fans should be prepared for negativity.

You know what, I asked a serious question for a good reason. To those of you who took the time to give me a serious and honest reply, I truly thank you. The idea about the donation to charity is a good one, and thats probably what I'll do.
To the rest of you who chose to turn this thread into the kind of crap-fest thats been going on on this board....grow the hell up! I don't care if you are a fan of Taylor's or a chroll or troll or whatever else you want to call yourself or each other. You all are acting like a bunch of idiots! No one is making Mr. Hicks look bad, because he isn't involved in this asinine fan war. All you are doing is making yourselves look stupid...and I'm including both sides in the "war" and those of you who are encouraging it. Those of you who think its clever and funny to encourage these two groups of nut-cases to go at each other look just as bad as the people who brought this idiocy over to this forum. Take your flaming fan war back to the AI boards where it started and leave everyone else alone. Taylor Hicks and EVERYONE in the cast of this show deserve more respect than this.

According to a phone call to the person who handles the receiving of mail for the cast, Taylor does indeed have his own dressing room

You called and asked?

Well, we've learned a few things. Someone(s) in the cast had to move to give Taylor his own dressing room and that I really need to leave.
