How Does The Current Cast Of Grease Compare To Previous Ones ?
Permalink Closed

A question for those of you who have seen the current Grease. How does this cast compare to previous ones ? Each of the actors and their portrayal of the roles they play are vital to the overall success of the play. Has anything about the play dramatically changed with the new cast or would you say they bring the same enegy and excitement that previous casts have ? I'm just curious as to what your thoughts are on this subject.

What new cast? There have been very few replacements in the principals, only Doody and Teen Angel. The cast has been very stable and quite wonderful.

I think Judy is asking about comparing this cast to the past revival and the OBC but I could totally be out in right field on that one.

It's hard to compare casts, especially since the last revival was a rotating door of B-list celebrities.

When I saw it back in 1996 or something, Linda Blair was Rizzo (insert confused smiley). I think that time Brooke Sheilds, Rosie O'Donnell and then Linda Blair played Rizzo (I don't know if thats the order but I think so).

I haven't seen the current cast so I can't compare though.

I had no idea that Linda Blair played Rizzo in Grease.Definitely an intersting cast..

Rosie O'Donnell was the first Rizzo in the 1994 revival. She was later replaced by Linda Blair, Debbie Boone, Sheena Easton, Joely Fisher, Deborah Gibson, Jasmine Guy, Lucy Lawless, Maureen McCormick, Susan Moniz, Tracey Nelson, Mackenzie Phillips, Angela Pupelo, Tia Riebling, Brooke Shields, and Jody Whatley.

What this current cast reall needs is Adrian Zmed aww

A rotating door of B-listers brought in to play the role with the most stage time.

Sandy was generally played by a Broadway person of no particular note - Sutton Foster, for example, before she became SUTTON FOSTER.

Danny was also stunt-cast, though not to the extent of Rizzo. Ricky Paul Goldin originated it, replaced through the run by Jon Secada and others.

Vince Fontaine was a role given to classic rockers - Mickey Dolenz, "Cousin" Brucie Morrow, etc.

Ah, Ricky Paul...he was on my soap opera at the time of the revival so I was excited by his casting.  Adrian Zmed not only dropped into the role of Danny in the 1994 revival (where his wife was the first Sandy in the revival) but he also dropped into the role of Danny in the original Broadway production.  I'd like to see him drop into either the roles of Vince Fontaine or Teen Angel.  How many people can say they've been in three different Broadway productions of a single show?

Adrian Zmed had a little something extra... you are right Eris... though I liked Max.... Adrian was really good... and Sam Harris was really good as Doody but as for the other the current cast is highly better

I can't wait to see the entire show, although, from what I read, some of the cast will be different then.
