I definitely wonder how she does it!  Especially because she has to dance so much while wearing it!  smile.gif

Ouch! Harrison Ford used to pretend to staples his fedora to his head because every time it flew off they had to stop and do another take.

I wonder how much that wig weighs? It must be about 15" off of her head.

I wonder why Ashley has to wear a wig in the show...She has beautiful hair.  I loved her hair in the Grease TV show.  Anybody know why?

My guess would be that it saves time.  They wouldn't need to style her hair before the show and then change the style during the show, such as when Sandy's hair is different for the finale.  Plus I guess that it would make her hair consistent for all of her performances.  Just my guess though!  I'd love to hear others' ideas too! smile.gif

1. A wig shows better on stage.

2. It saves her hair from tons of hassle. Think of how much her hair would be damaged if she had to have it curled and styled for every show. After a few months her hair would be practically falling out under that sort of stress.

3. It's a time issue. Think of the end of the show. She has a ponytail in one scene and then in the very next scene she has the Jersey hair. There is no way there would be enough time to style her hair in time for her entrance.

Derek will have a wig as well. Taylor has a wig, Allie has a wig, Jenny has a wig, etc. Most performers wear wigs. Heck, Laura Bell Bundy wears a wig in Legally Blonde.

You're probably right, but I just don't like the wigs. To me it looks like they are all going trick or treating...sometimes...with the wigs.

Just curious if Max wears a wig? If so, why did they make such a big deal about him needing to have Danny hair during the show? :)

I think the wigs in Grease look fine.  They look pretty real.

Max wears a wig.  His real hair isn't that high lol

With the hair Max had while G: YTOTIW was started it would have been difficult for America to picture him in the role.  Max simply made it easier.  For the judges and producers I suspect they simply wanted him to put forth the effort.  When an actor goes to an audition they often attempt to look the part with closing/hair/makeup choices.

I have seen several pictures of Max with fans outside the theater with the Danny hairstyle. I always assumed it was his own hair. ??????? He has the perfect hair for Danny...I can't imagine wanting to cover it up.

Taylor doesn't wear a wig. He was asked after one of the shows, and said it was his hair. When the person who had asked, told him there was much speculation about it, he was surprised, and said "there is?"

I saw Max up close and assumed it was his hair that was teased way up high! I have to check with my husband, because he and Max had a conversation about Max's hair. We went to a matinee and Max said he normally doesn't wear his hair like that.

Actually, I think that this is not quite acurate. Taylor was surprised that there was speculation about his hair, but I believe that he refused to tell if it was his hair or not 'cause he didn't want to reveal any secrets! However, I believe another fan talked to his dresser, who said its Taylor's hair.

I would think it is just a hairpiece with his hair combed over it.

Speaking of hair. Notice that in the original promotional pictures, Max's hair is kinda spiked up. I believe Mr. E said that was taken in NY right after the competition ended. And Laura had on a black top. They printed this picture on the Playbills the first few months, then they airbrushed Max's hair and colored Laura's top red and used this picture everywhere from that point on. Why didn't they just do the real Danny Zuko hairstyle in the first place? Grrr!!

Nope, it's not a wig or a hairpiece... here's what Max's mom posted in another thread in response to the statement that Max wears a wig. It's in the "welcome back" thread.

"Hello, I actually was on here on accident as I was using my husbands computer and it automatically signed me in. I read every once in a while and I saw something that I wanted to correct and then just logged out.
I was going to correct the fact that Max does not and has never worn a hair piece or wig. That is all his own hair and I have seen them "doo" it up more than a dozen times. That is why he still has it up on matinee days.
Thanks for the well wishes, but am off now. Everyone take care and thanks for all the fun (well mostly fun) and support over the past year."

I was kinda sure that was his hair!!

Well, the "does Max" or "does Max not" wear a wig has been cleared up.

Thank you Rachel for clearing that up.

I am quite surprised that it took replacing Laura and Max to duscuss their hair. For the record, I asked Max what is used in his hair to "pomp it up" on myspace and he never got back to me. Not much of a shock really but most of the people who were finalists on the reality show have responded to my messages, many of them on more than one occasion as I started a dialog with most trying to find out the real deal between all of them and how they really felt. I was also interested in knowing if all the cast members were as tightly knit together as the show presented it to be. Many remain friends, mostly the women, but the men seem to have scattered in different directions for the most part.

All the men have their hair done every night by a really terrific hairdresser. I am not sure what product he uses but it has to help withstand the very physical dancing the boys do. I am fairly sure the women do as well, although some of them wear wigs.

Maybe the women remained friends because many of them went to New York and stayed. The males seemed to go in various directions and not all in New York. Unlike Survivor or other reality shows of the sort, this show did not pit the contestants against each other by allowing them to chose who stays or goes. Contestants performed and were voted on. The show was sold as a wholesome kind of show, where everyone was happy for the other. American Idol is sort of the same. The contestants are shown having a good time together. Whether all of the contestants really liked each other would be something that only they would be able to discuss.

Laura has said that they all consciously worked very hard to continually respect each other on the show and they did an amazing job of being and remaining friends. Still, it only stands to reason that each person had certain ones with which they felt more natural "kinship" towards and maybe others they didn't have as strong of a natural affinity for or felt a stronger sense of competition with. One of the most wonderful stories I heard out of the group was how they would try to rally around anyone who had a tough week. That was like seeing one of your comrades shot in front of national TV and knowing maybe next week (or last week) it might be you! It was also hard in an ironic kind of way to have a great week. Even with humility it is hard to comfort someone else when the judges just sang your praises and all voted for you as the top Sandy or Danny of the night but they blasted one of your friends. I think only those 12 young people (and especially those who stayed in the competition longer) can know just how complex their time together was. They lived together, worked hard together, competed against each other, and comforted each other. But someone had to win and the others did not get to win. (They can and are certainly winning in life--they just did not get to win the competition). Under all of those circumstances I think even winning had to have been bitter-sweet. I was interested in reading the interview of Laura on Taylor Hicks website on another thread here and hearing they compared "reality TV show" notes. It is a very, very unique and complex experience to be on a reality TV show and I remember Max saying once in an interview that he felt like he and Laura felt like war survivors! But, my goodness, all in all it has been one astounding experience after another this last year for Laura and Max and it has changed their lives. Laura has a special affinity for Max that she'll not match with anyone else she works with in the future. The two of them won a reality TV show, moved to New York City and lived in the same building and got to play Sandy and Danny on Broadway together for a year. What a magical, magical dream! And they're only 22 years old!

Friends compete with friends in the reality of Broadway or any audition. You and your friends go in to the audition for the same spot. Someone gets it; is it you or your friend? Actors have a wonderful ability to be glad for someone else's success because this time it might be you and next time someone else.

I know I have said this before, but I wish all the best for Laura and Max in their future endeavors.

Jane, I always felt, as Max said, that there only win and "not win". No one "lost" this competition because they all got something out of it. I've said many times that the reality show ended the way it was supposed to end. Max and Laura were meant to have the roles of Danny and Sandy at that time while the other contestants were meant to have other, wonderful experiences. Ashley in Hairspray, Kate in Tully, Up and Legally Blonde, Derek in A Tale of Two Cities and All Shook Up, etc. I'm not going to name every contestant but they've all had great opportunities that the might not have had if they'd won. Things come when the time is right. Of the final fourteen seven have appeared on or off-Broadway (not counting out of town try-outs, regional work or NYMF). Ashley S, Chad, Julianna. Kate, Laura, Max, and Allie. An additional three have announced upcoming Broadway debuts. Derek, Kevin, and Kathleen. That only leaves four who have not appeared on or off Broadway. Austin, Ashley A, Jason, and Matt. Of that list Austin may have a Broadway debut coming up and Ashley Anderson was on the The Wedding Singer tour. That just leaves Jason and Matt as 'unknown". That's pretty good IMO.

Nice way to put it Eris. Being on nationally televised show can't hurt anyone, unless you make a fool of yourself, and even then, who can account for the success of William Hung?
