I'm wondering what the rehearsal process is like when new actors replace others during the run of a show. How much rehearsal time are they given to learn their new roles/choreography, etc? Anyone know? Thanks!
I'm not sure, but I'm sure that it will really help that Ashley and Derek learned so much of the choreography while doing the TV show! Ashley was fabulous in "Hairspray," and she had so much dancing in that show. I'm sure she'll have no problem with "Grease!" I can't wait!!!! :)
Replacements are given 2-3 weeks to learn the show with the stage manager, asst. choreographer, and musical director. It's rare for the director and choreographer to come back, though I would imagine Kathleen Marshall will be there for a day or two.
They get 1 "put-in" rehearsal with the entire cast, usually the day before or the morning of their first performance.
Thanks for the info everyone! I'm amazed by the talented actors/actresses on Broadway that are able to step in with so little rehearsal time. And I can't wait to see what's next for Laura and Max! I will surely follow their careers in the future. I'm sure they have left a lasting impression upon those that have worked with them and watched them perform.

While they may have learned some of the choreography, the blocking is totally different and so would be their "tracks." They have a lot to learn in the short time that they have. Many actors have done two shows at one time, rehearsing during the day and going on stage at night. It is tiring!
I'm sure that it will be tiring, but I think that for both Derek and Ashley, they will do whatever they need to do to play these roles well. I'm sure that they are both so grateful to be playing "Danny" and "Sandy" that they are willing to do whatever is necessary to learn the parts! I wish both of them much success as they prepare for their roles! I'm sure the hard work will pay off when they step onto that stage for their first performance on the 22nd! :)

I am sure they will both be wonderful and I wish them success!
