I was thinking the same thing. It was probably taken in the week between Elvis night and the night Derek and Allie were sent home. The night I was supposed to be there lol

Derek Keeling and Ashley Spencer, finalists on the NBC audition series Youre the One That I Want, are joining the cast of Grease on Broadway in the lead roles of Danny and Sandy. Max Crumm and Laura Osnes, who won the competition, will play their final performances on July 20.
How great it is to wake up and see the official announcements! Thanks to all of you for posting! I am so excited to see them perform!!!! Can't wait! :)
I'm wondering how the new advertising will go. Do Ashley and Derek have any name value from the tv show? Even Max and Laura have faded from public memory. I see Taylor continuing as the name attraction.
In addition to Taylor, they could make a big splash with a photo of Derek & Ashley, as they did with Max & Laura. D & A are what people expect D & S to look like, and regardless of their names, they would excite people. I expect to see this three-prong approach.

I think they will put those two beautiful faces on a 7-story billboard. They'd be crazy not to!
When I first posted this article there were no pictures but now there are. Ashley looks great but couldn't they find a more flattering picture of Derek? I love my "husband" and all but gee whiz. There are better pictures to be had. They should have just asked me!

Aww...that was one of my favorite Max performances! If I remember correctly, I think he was sick that night, but still did an amazing performance. I definitely need to go back and watch the shows.
That's a great picture of Derek! I think he is going to be such a good "Danny!" And with Ashley as "Sandy," the show is going to continue to be a big hit! I can't wait to go! :)
You know I can see the resemblance to Tyrone Power.
Once I thought he looked like Tom Welling from Smallville. It was just the way he had canted his head to the side and I only saw the resemblance that once.

Grease At Last. Massillon's Ashley Spencer will begin playing Sandy in the current Broadway production of Grease on July 22.
You may remember that Spencer finished second to Laura Osnes on NBC's reality series Grease: You're the One That I Want, which let viewers choose a Sandy and Danny for the production. (Max Crumm won the role of Danny.)
Spencer went on to other work, and is currently on Broadway as Amber in Hairspray. But with Osnes and Crumm giving their last performances after close to a year in Grease on July 20, the door opened for Spencer and for Derek Keeling, who finished third on You're the One That I Want. He will now play Danny opposite Spencer's Sandy.
The casting announcement said ''Derek's good looks and macho leader-of-the-pack confidence and Ashley's good girl charm and blonde tresses evoked an idyllic 'Danny' and 'Sandy' combination.''
More Spencer. Ashley's mom, Molly Spencer, said Ashley ''has come full circle'' with the new job. She's also getting ready for some trips to New York, although probably not for Ashley's opening night.
Although Molly saw Ashley three times in Hairspray, none was her debut. ''She kind of likes to get some shows under her belt first,'' Molly said.
While there are some other casting changes at the musical, Spencer will share the stage with former American Idol champ Taylor Hicks, who is playing Teen Angel in the production.

Derek and Ashley are already up on IBDB. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click on the replacements link. Allie doesn't have a listing yet though.

I was a bit displeased when the interviewer said that Max and Laura "didn't quite work out". They certainly did!
And when he was talking about that first moment when the curtain goes up my heart gave a few extra beats because I will be there for that moment. So exciting!

That woman was clueless! She was lucky that Derek was such a charming guest because you could tell she hadn't done her homework. Grease's numbers were fantastic with Max and Laura.
Part of me wanted Derek to say something but part of me is glad he didn't. It would have changed the whole mood of the interview. But it makes me sad that the people of WV now thing Max and Laura are being replaced because they did poorly.
And as for the stage door...I don't think he has much of a choice. But he better be there to see his "wife"!
