I saw a movie with Bette Davis. I think it was Now Voyager. She was standing in front of a window, it was night time. She was having a conversation with this man she was standing very close to and they were facing each other talking. He offered her a cigarette which she took, he struck a match, she leaned into the flame with her cigarette and put her hand on the back of his hand that was holding the match. As she did this, she looked up at him with those huge eyes of hers and I thought it was such a sexy scene, implied. Cigarettes were such a huge part of cinema in the 40's and 50's.

That's one of Bette's most famous scenes. The actor was Paul Henreid. Unfortunately, Bette played a large part in promoting smoking, and she wound up with several cancers.
Hey Wish, do you think I need to bring my own extinguisher or does Grease provide one? I think like you do......Ashley and Derek are really dynamic together.
I don't know about fire extinguishers in the theatre, but when I went to Derek Keeling's website this morning, my computer completely burnt up for an hour! What a hottie! Check it out! And that picture of him and Ashley...SEXY AS HECK!

If that is what happens with just Derek's picture, imagine what will occur when he gets his video blog up!!!! I can't wait! I just hope that my computer will survive!

And it's well worth going the extra step to view it, right!!
This article makes the strategy of the "Grease" company pretty clear.
Max Crumm as Danny and Laura Osnes as Sandy won their roles last summer on the NBC series, telecasts that helped boost the revival's advance before opening to $15 million.
Max and Laura definitely have fans from the TV show, it's pretty clear, says Nick Scandalios, executive vice president of the Nederlander Organization, one of the producers of Grease.
When Crumm and Osnes leave the show in late July Crumm to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film; Osnes to stay in New York to audition for more theater who will replace them? Derek Keeling and Ashley Spencer, who were the runners-up in the TV competition.
"Many people voted for them, too," Scandalios explains. "And because the long process they went through, we knew they were capable of playing the parts." And it's helped the box office, too, with the show only a whisper away from recouping its $9 million-plus production costs.
I think Bette in All About Eve with her "fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy night" was pretty famous.
I'm another Bette Davis fan....Ms. Davis won an Academy Award for "Jezabel". Also loved Dark Victory with George Brent and Ronald Reagan. She was a great actress. In my opinion, the best.

Thanks for posting this Kristen! Great article! Ashley and Derek will do wonderfully in the roles, I'm sure.
Oops...sorry about the blank post...I was wondering if the broadway show includes anything from the sleepover scene at Frenchy's...you know, the one with goodby Sandra Dee. It would be fun to see Rizzo and the girls doing that number. Ashley is so fun in her portrayal of Amber in Hairspray...I would love to see her act in that scene, but don't know if it's included in the show since Laura's Sandy had brown hair. Does anyone know? What do you think?

The plot isn't changed because of the color of the actress's hair. Goodbye, Sandra Dee comes at the end of the show after There are Worse Things I Can Do. There is the sleepover scene at Marty's house and the song in that scene is Freddy, my Love. Sandra Dee doesn't come until later in Act I.
When the movie was being made songs were dropped, songs were added, and scene order was changed. Forget the movie when you're going to see the show because you'll probably end up being confused. What is currently being staged in NYC is the original Broadway production with the three added songs from the film.

Most people who think they are seeing the movie are a bit disappointed because in the movie Sandy gets a lot of screen time, while in the Broadway show, she isn't on stage very much.
Thanks, My daughter's on the left, with her friend on the right. This was actually shot after seeing Barbie Fairytopia, Mattel's touring show at the Bass performance hall in Fort Worth, Texas.

That's so nice! Thank you for your sharing the picture!

I prefer the current Broadway version over the movie Grease. In the movie, it made no sense that Sandy (Olivia N.John) would sing "Hopelessly Devoted To You" at the sleepover right after "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee"; In the Broadway play, Sandy (Laura Oznes) sings it right after seeing Danny dance with another girl (Cha-Cha) at the dance contest, which made more sense.
Moreover, Max & Laura have done a wonderful job portraying Danny & Sandy as innocent teenagers. On the other hand, Travolta & Newton-John in the movie were too sexed-up, star-centric and disco-sized. That is why I like the Broadway plays (especially the current one) more than the movie, eventhough more people have seen the movie due to distribution logistics.
Similiarly, I am sure Derek & Ashley will be excellent as Danny & Sandy in that they are also new, fresh, younger, & talented, just like Max & Laura.
"Hopelessly" actually makes zero sense the way staged in this production, with Danny & Cha-Cha leaving the dance together, rather than Danny storming out, which would give leeway to the later Drive-In scene.
Well, Ashley and Derek are rehearsing now. It won't be long, how exciting for them. I heard they were in the audience Sunday night and that people recognized them.
That's so exciting that they have begun rehearsing! I just know that they are both going to be incredible in their roles! I can't wait to see them!!!!!!
For Max and Laura fans, the casting of Derek and Ashley is cause for rejoicing.
If casting had been done from the Broadway pool, the bashers would have a field day. They would say that the Producers realized the error of their ways and returned to the traditional and right way to cast. The casting of D&A validates the tv show and endorses M&L as the deserved winners and stars of the revival.
