Does anyone know what is next for Max and Laura?
Permalink Closed

I haven't been here for a while. I found out about Ashley and Derek from Broadway World. What happened? Were Max and Laura ready to move on or were they pushed out? Do Ashley and Derek have contracts that will last a year? If not, do you think they will bring other people from Grease you're the one that I want? I wish them all the best but Max and Laura were my favorites. I listened to an interview with Derek that someone had posted and it sounds like TPTB wanted to give Ashley's and Derek's fans an opportunity to see them. I know that Allie is now part of the show-are they talking about bringing anyone else from the show? The biggest question I have is do Max and Laura have anything lined up? Thanks!!!!

Max and Laura had one year contracts. That was the shows prize. Their contracts are up at the end of July so they are moving on. Max misses the California sun and will be going back out there to concentrate on finding film and TV roles. Laura and Nate are staying in NYC where they are both finding work. Laura recently took part in a concert showcasing a new musical writing team with other Broadway stars. She has also done some voice over work. Im sure she has many offers on and off Broadway.

Do you know how long Derek and Ashley's contract will run?

No clue. There was no end date listed in any of the articles and no end date listed on ibdb.com so I'm going to guess six months to a year.

Does anyone know who tried out for the roles (again)? I'm curious to find out the try out process this time around. If we voted for Max and Laura, what were the producers (???) looking for in the leads for the second year?

That's easy. Both Ashley and Derck were well recived by viewers and the judges during the main TV show.  If the producers were going to go back to that show for cast members these two were an obvious choice---especially since Austin was no longer available and A & D had already demostratd mutual , shall we say, chemistry?

There was no audition process, the producers choose, contact agents and make an offer. Don't know if Ashley and Derek were the first ones offered however. Shows will use casting agencys
like Telsey for replacements sometimes and they conduct the auditions.

I'm so glad that they were able to get both Ashley and Derek! I couldn't think of better replacements! They got the best! :)

Thanks for filling me in. Was this unusual for a Broadway show, to seek out people, as opposed to an audition process?

Some times Broadway shows will get replacements from their touring shows. Hairspray, Wicked,
Jersey Boys to name a few. When new shows are being developed they have casting calls and if you read Broadwayworld.com or Playbill they post these things. There is an article about Spider Man right now on one of those sites. I suppose actors agents contact shows to get auditions for their clients also.

I wish I could have gone to see the show while Max and Laura were there! I love them both. I might get to go in the fall sometime.

Both of these things are done on Broadway. Of course, Derek and Ashley have auditioned already, so they are known. Sometimes, they offer a part to someone, like TH, without audition for the name recognition factor, also known as stunt casting. Sometimes, the director knows an actor who he/she would like to fill a specific role. Sometimes it is from a previous audition.

However you get it, it ain't easy!

There was in fact, an audition process. They were auditioning people for the upcoming tour. While Derek and Ashley have already auditioned in the TV show, they may well have been asked to come in again to let the producers see them one more time.

Greasefan, just in case you didn't see this on another thread, one of the Grease producers is speaking here.

When Crumm and Osnes leave the show in late July Crumm to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film; Osnes to stay in New York to audition for more theater who will replace them? Derek Keeling and Ashley Spencer, who were the runners-up in the TV competition.

"Many people voted for them, too," Scandalios explains. "And because the long process they went through, we knew they were capable of playing the parts." And it's helped the box office, too, with the show only a whisper away from recouping its $9 million-plus production costs.

I am sure they will bring something else to the role... Like at the end I bet Asheley and Derek will bring more sexual fire than Max and Laura... Though I LOVED BOTH MAX AND LAURA
