4th Of July Audience Pledges Allegiance To Taylor Hicks
Washington D.C. Brings Out Big Crowd For Broadways Mr. Hicks
The event had all the fireworks and excitement one would expect on a 4th of July celebration, but the sky was blue and the sun was shining. Actually, it was July 3 in Washington DC, and front and center at a rehearsal for tonights Washington capital celebration of Americas Holiday was Mr. Taylor Hicks.
In this photo we see the large crowd pledging allegience to the flag, of course, but it also looks as though they are pledging allegiance to Taylor Hicks.
His fanbase is huge, and according to the New York Post, hes bringing in an extra $150,000 a week in ticket sales for his performance in Broadways Grease.
Taylor Hicks and Brian Stokes Mitchell Take Broadway To DC
"July 4 Capital Celebration Is All Broadway"
There is a festive atmosphere on hand at the capital in Washington D.C. for the annual Fourth Of July Celebration. Greases Taylor Hicks is seen here in some insider rehearsal pictures, as is Tony Award regular Brian Stokes Mitchell, and Jimmy Smitts.
Pictures below are from the rehearsal, which was truly Broadway in the Capital.
Taylor Hicks is quickly making himself a Broadway star in addition to being an American Idol. Show is on tonight.
Thanks so much Azure, LOVE it!!!!!! I had posted a link to the 2nd one in the 4th of July thread, but hadn't seen the first one....greatly appreciated!!! Here are a couple of clickable links to those articles for the lazy
"It's music, man. If music is in your heart, you feel it, you play it, you sing it, you perform it, you bust your buns doing it. That's what its all about!" - Taylor Hicks, following "Levon" performance, American Idol 2/22/06
And from the Lansing St. Journal (with a mention of Brian Stokes Mitchell) http://hub.lsj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ar...040303/1104/HUB
(Sorry for so many articles. But I figured it was o.k. since it is a Taylor Hicks Forum.)
"Don't Want to go Outside to Watch Fireworks?"
By: Mike Hughes - TV Coverage
For some singers, being in TV's "Capitol Fourth" concert can be imposing. Behind them is the massive National Symphony. In front are 300,000 people, plus more watching on PBS.
Then again, some people are used to such commotions. Just ask Taylor Hicks. Even before his "American Idol" fame, he sang at the Talladega Superspeedway. "It's like Mardi Gras times 10," he said.
Or ask Brian Stokes Mitchell. Lately, he's been singing with the symphonies in Boston, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles and more. "It's really fun when you get these incredible musicians behind you," he said.
Both are scheduled for tonight's live concert from the Capitol Lawn. So are Jerry Lee Lewis, Huey Lewis and more.
It's a night of big music, big emotion. It's also when Hicks is usually busy somewhere. "Most every Fourth of July, I've been performing," he said. In the daytime, he'd take it easy near home in Birmingham, Ala. "We'd usually have barbecues. There are some beautiful lakes back home." And at night, he'd work. He rarely slowed down.
"You really have to love performing," Hicks said. "I've been in clubs where there was no one there; I've done weddings."
That's what helped him on "Idol" in 2006. "I definitely had a vision," he said. "I had done a lot of performing; I was almost 30." As "Idol" leaped between decades and genre, Hicks was ready. "That was from a lot of gold I listened to when I was 9 or 10 years old," he said.
Now he's leaping between different worlds. To do tonight's show, Hicks gets time off from his current duties, singing the Teen Angel role in Broadway's "Grease."
This isn't something a dentist's son from Alabama could have predicted. Until now, "Rent" was the only show he'd seen on Broadway.
"Luckily, the second show I've seen is one I'm in," he said.
If Hicks needs any Broadway advice, he can turn to another "Fourth" performer. Mitchell has done eight Broadway shows, getting Tony nominations for the last four. He won for "Kiss Me Kate" and was nominated for "Ragtime," "King Hedley II" and "Man of La Mancha.

I presume you and hs5sunny are aware that there is a video up on Taylor's Angels from the Capitol 4th rehearsal last night. It was taken by "PaytheDevil" and her videos are always great. This is about 7 minutes long and includes two songs. In case you need it, here's the link: (I hope this works, Aragall. I seem to have a problem doing this right. But then you always fix it. Thanks.)
