You all should also listen to Taj Mahal. Great blues singer and has worked with so many famous people. I love his version of Mockingbird with Etta James.

That's a show I would have liked to see!

The Taj Mahal Trio appeared at the Warren Haynes Christmas Jam in Asheville a couple of years ago. Taylor was there, too, along with scores of other great artists. I'm looking forward to getting the dvd.

I'm so glad you posted this, luvutay. It's a great video and a great article. A ringing endorsement for Taylor from someone who has a clue what she's talking about! biggrin.gif

If you need some get up and get your funk on then Robert Randolph and the Family Band is just the ticket. The album Colorblind is excellent. It's another underpromoted gem of a record that should have been heard by more people.  Taylor introduced us to Robert Randolph when he joined them for a song or two.

This is soooooo GREAT! Proof that there is excellent music out there, in spite of what radio is regurgitating.

The best internet website for finding music is pandora.com. You put in your favorite artist and it develops a radio station based on the kind of music that artist sings. It's amazing! Great way to learn about artists you may not have heard of, or of music an artist did you might not be familiar with. I love it. It's available for your phone too.

edited for spelling - wish this thing had spell check!

Oooohhh! Thanks for the reminder, D&B. I haven't been to Pandora for a long, long time. smile.gif

This is my favorite video of one of Taylor's impromptu sit ins with various musicians. You guys have me in a Robert Randolph mood now.....biggrin.gif

I have watched this video about 20 times. I just love this song. Anyway, I found that I hadn't watched it through until the end. I just love Letterman's comment about not wanting to tell us how to spend our music dollars...... Poor Regis! rofl.gif

Another artist that I discovered through Taylor was Angie Aparo. He and Taylor were collaborating on a song a while back and after searching him out I found another gifted singer/songwriter who is sadly not heard enough. Although he did write Faith Hill's Cry.

There are not that many female singers that I really enjoy. This one, however, is a major exception. She has an incredible voice and can use it to get every last drop of feeling out of a song. Her songs are works of art....they are who she is.

Lots of people don't like her because of her lifestyle. She is, indeed, a troubled soul. I've heard her compared to Billie Holiday. I just hope she doesn't end up letting her addictions kill her, just as BH's killed her. Many great singers/musicians, writers, actors have left us too soon because of substance abuse of one kind or another. I truly hope she doesn't become one of them.

Amy Winehouse

Rehab
(Anyone I ever knew who ended up in rehab went through this same kind of denial. They just didn't write it into a great song.)

Aragall good point about Amy Winehouse. Billy Holiday too had problems. I think of Janis Joplin who died of an overdose. I saw her once years ago and she drank an entire quart of Southern Comfort to get her through the concert which only last about 1 1/2 hours.

Amy's voice evokes Janis for me. Something from her soul reaches out. I hope she can find a way of controlling the demons that haunt her. Janis could not.

I heard the same about Amy Winehouse.  She only has 70% lung capacity, which for a 24 year old is really bad.  It's sad.

It's very rare to have emphysema at such a young age. She is mid-twenties or something like that, it's really too bad. Love her voice!

I heard the name John Mayer many times, but never really listened to him until Taylor mentioned him. Now, of course, he's one of my favorites.

This particular song really speaks to me. I can relate.

He has a rep as a big playboy, but the boy is DEEP! Love me some John Mayer.

And I think he is responsible for writing this generation's protest song....

Last night I went to see Billy Joel, Last Play at Shea. The stadium was packed as there were over He played for four hours without a break and had Tony Bennett, John Mellencamp, John Mayer and Don Hanley as guests, who each did a number with him. Billy is the most amazing pianist and his voice still sounds as good as it did when he was in his twenties.

His final number in every concert (last night the crowd was so demanding he did a number after it) was Piano Man and he plays the harmonica and I thought of you guys and TH.

An amazing concert!

One of my roommates in college was a HUGE Billy Joel fan, so I became quite familiar with him through her. He's another one I'd like to see. Sounds like a great concert, D&B.
