When you think about it, Grease and TH are a perfect pair. Grease gets tickets sales from all Taylor's devoted fans and Taylor gets a world of publicity that helps to promote his new CD. Not a bad trade for them both!
I hope he is as successful with his new CD as he is at doing Grease.
I was at the show today. I was sort of prepared not to really like TH in his role as Teen Angel, but I DID! He was funny and hammed it up with Frenchie and did a great job. The audience loved him and I must admit I did too.
I went backstage after the show and walked directly into him. He was very charming. He has a great smile and was so friendly. I even got his autograph on my program du jour.
Although I am not ready to be a full fledged SP member, I admit to really liking TH!
Awww that is sooooooo nice! You got to meet him too - you've been bitten just a tiny bit by the Taylor bug. Hope you had a wonderful time!

I have enjoyed the show everytime I have seen it, and this time was no exception. It's so much fun! There is only one problem - time seems to pass too quickly!

Great video! I love the kid yelling, "Taylor, you look great!!!"

For some reason, I have the overwhelming urge to post this video here. I will refrain from making a dedication. Just watch your backs everyone....on both forums.

I remember this, it was before it was announced that he'd be in Grease, I think he already knew he was headed to the Great White Way!

Playbill published a nice interview with Derek, and of course, he was asked about working with Taylor. He had some nice things to say (as always - just like TH did when asked about DK!) But these poor kids really must get sick of being asked about TH. It's like in practically every interview Taylor's done for two years, he's had to repeatedly answer questions about Idol and Simon and Chris. I've often thought he must feel like strangling the interviewer. (I know I have! LOL!)
But anyway, I'm glad Derek seems to be handling it well. The more I read about him, the more I like him. He sounds like a genuinely nice guy. (Gee, who have we said that about before?)
Here's the link to the interview. Hope it works. If it doesn't, it's up on the Rydell Forum - but it only references the fact that it mentions Ashley. (TH's name being mentioned might bring bad karma to the thread, I guess.) LOL! (Boy, it seems like I'm doing a lot of "qualifying" my comments with LOL's on this Grease Forum.) Sorry for that.
One of Taylor Hicks' favorite books is the one the "American Idol" crooner wrote himself.
"I might not be the greatest speller," concedes the author and subject of "Heart Full of Soul," which came out last summer, "but it meant the world to me to express myself through my own words, as opposed to having so many questions thrown at me, post-'Idol.'
"Letting the fans connect with me without a filter - that'll always hold a special place in my heart!"
Lately, fans have been connecting with the Alabama-born crooner through "Grease," in which he has a small but showy turn as Teen Angel through Sept. 6. And while he's waiting to go onstage, he says, he often reads a newspaper (he majored in journalism and business before dropping out to sing) and books.
"You can probably go back and look at all the great songwriters in the world, and they'll tell you reading's the key to success," the silver-haired Soul Patroller tells The Post's Barbara Hoffman. "Being around words helps you write words."
Here's what else is on his bookshelf:
Texasville
by Larry McMurtry
I remember my grandmother and I reading "Texasville" together at the beach. It's about a lower-income family that strikes oil, and basically goes through changes. I was probably 8 or 9 years old, and I remember how funny Larry McMurtry was. He's a brilliant writer.
Charlotte's Web
by E.B. White
One of my favorite children's books. The message is great.
The Da Vinci Code
by Dan Brown
I think the book is better than the movie, personally - more detailed. How that story unfolds just blew me away.
The Seat of the Soul
by Gary Zukav
He talks about how, when we feel an intuition, we need to recognize and learn from it so we can use that sixth sense even more . . . It's basically about listening to your heart.
Is it me or has Taylor become a darling of the New York Post?

Just got back from Target with my copy of Early Works!
I'll be stopping on my way home.
Me too! I'm hearing great things about how good the sound quality is with the remastering

I purchased the last three copies in our local Target ! When I got in the car I greedily tore one open and let that gorgeous voice take me away from the daily grind ! Son Of A Carpetner is absolutely amazing ! It felt like I was hearing these songs for the first time, the tone and the instrumentals were perfect never overpowering Taylor's vocals.
I was at the show tonight and Taylor was greeted with lots of applause and he is continuing to enjoy his role as Teen Angel. He looks like he is having fun and I had fun watching him!

Griz, I'll have to pull out my IYT CD and listen again...do you remember Taylor ever singing falsetto and laughing on "Son of a Carpenter"????? Sounded like a whole different version...
I don't know if anybody's interested in this, but.....
I saw the Sgt. Pepper Tour at WolfTrap. It was wonderful and I loved it. But Taylor didn't miss anything. It was The Todd Rundgren Show! God, what a voice! Chris Cross wasnt far behind with his beautiful, powerful tenor, which has only improved with age.
However, Taylor's replacement, Bo, had virtually no impact with "Witness" and "I'm Gone" from his album, and one measly verse in the whole Sgt. Pepper album. The crowd was enthusiastic, though only 3,000...capacity is 7,000.
LOVE that song! Now it's going to be in my head all day

We lost another great artist today. And of course, there's a Taylor connection, because Taylor connects to all types of music. I adore Jerry Reed. I remember when he had a TV show....I think he was a summer replacement for Glen Campbell. I knew a few Jerry Reed type characters, growing up in the South. But there's only one Jerry.
I've heard bits of East Bound and Down tagged into some of Taylor's songs. Well, here's Jerry Reed singing his own song.....From Smokey and the Bandit. I've never seen this movie, but I understand Jerry had a part in it.
Rest In Peace, Jerry
