While I am sure that a lot of people seeing the show are Ashley and Derek fans I'm sure that the most of the people there have never heard of them and would be more than happy to buy merchandise with Max and Laura images on them.
Since Ashley spent a year on Broadway in Hairspray, I am sure that people know who she is and want to see her in Grease.
I'm not convinced that most people are seeing Grease to see Ashley and Derek. I'm sure that they have a lot of supporters, but a lot of people are going to see the show because they are familar with story and want to see a musical. Of course there are also a lot people seeing the show because of Taylor Hicks, Ashley or Derek, but MOST people just want to see the show. I see a lot of shows when they play in Atlanta, and when I visit London or NY. Most of the time I have no idea who is starring in the show and don't even make note of someone I really enjoyed seeing for future trips. One of the shows I enjoyed the most was Blood Brothers on London's West End. The female lead was absolutely amazing! I bought a program and I have no idea if she was featured on it or not, and it didn't matter because I just wanted something to remember the night by. I also bought the CD in the airport before I left and there again I have no idea if it was the same woman or not. I think I will be planning a NY trip in the next upcoming months, and the only show I think I will see because of who is in it is Gypsy but that is very unusual for me and chances are I won't be able to get tickets anyway.

I usually see shows because I want to see that show. But, some people will go just to see a particular performer. Some people will see Grease because they want to see Taylor and some will go to see either Derek or Ashley or both. Many people go just to see the show. Grease is a very popular and recognizable show and for many people coming into the city, they want to be sure they are going to enjoy the show because theater tickets are so expensive.
Ticket sales have been very good for this show and will, hopefully, continue to do well.
Gypsy is not too difficult a ticket to get. It has been on TKTS for weeks, so I am sure you will be able to get to see Patty!
Hello, all. I am a peaceful poster who joined this board even before the show opened on Broadway(May, 2007). I don't post often, but I really enjoy reading everyone's posts daily. As you all can tell, my user name sums up our affiliation in our house. We are huge fans of Max, especially my son. In following the TV show and seeing the Broadway show three times, we have become fans of many of the people involved and enjoy hearing about their successes. My son became a huge Jose fan after seeing the show the first time. Of course, Jose was a highlight of the show for our entire family. My youngest still talks about how Jose talked to her after the show. Our first time at the stage door, Jenny Powers passed by my girls and was about to leave and my oldest daughter called her name. Jenny immediately turned around and apologized for missing them. She was very sweet and really spent extra time with the girls. My girls will never forget Jenny for that. I am so happy for Derek and Ashley and do not have one bad thing to say about them. Yes, I am a Max fan. but I am also a fan of the rest of the cast. I think we can all co-exist, as we always have, but still be fans of cast alumni. Many Ashley fans have been members of the board before Ashley became Sandy. I am sure many Laura fans will stick around too. I think that is what makes the board fun. I look forward to more news about the show and fun conversation on the board.
Hope all is well at your end of the world. I love that picture - wish I had seen that card.
Jose remembers your family too and I know he sends his regards.
We are quite well. Just busy, as always. Our regards to Jose, also! Sorry we missed him in March, but hopefully he enjoyed the R&R. I am hoping we can get back while he is still in the show. The kids would love that. Besides. it will be fun to see how the show has changed with all the cast changes.
Oh, did you have a name on the Grease boards? I don't recall this name being there.
No I didn't have a name on the Grease Boards. I remember someone telling me that you were instrumental in helping Ashley's sister Meghan get to California. They told me how nice it was because you were a Laurafan and were helping Meghan get there to see Ashley. I thought that was quite commendable!
I like both Ashley and Laura but fans of all the contestants helped out with that. I never considered myself solely a Laura fan or solely an Ashley fan.

I liked Ashley right away when I saw her audition in LA and I also liked Laura. And then I met everyone and after that it was even harder to "choose". So I opted not to.

Kristen....you have every right to your opinion. It makes no sense for the Laura fans to be out of sorts. They need to remember, it's over for Laura. She had her shining time. All the Ashley-Derek fans want is to share and enjoy with them their moment in the sun. I don't believe that's too hard to understand.
Ah ah ah----let's be careful here! First off, it's not "over" for Laura: Her time in GREASE is over yes, but that was only the beginning of a brilliant career for her I'm going to go ahead and say it: yes, she had her shining time, but that shining time is really just beginning: she is extraordinary & will continue to do great things!!!!! And again, if I may, think back to when the the GREASE boards were up and running on NBC: I remember so many sore Ashley fans on there, many of them----let me repeat myself----MANY of them constantly and consistantly bashing Laura for no good reason. So before you go stating that Laura fans are "out of sorts", please remember that some Ashley fans are not very exemplary alot of the time. I hope my comments are not taken as one who sore about Laura leaving: quite the opposite! Lest we forget, she was the one the majority of fans voted for who wound up winning the role in the first place! I am thrilled for her, and filled with nothing but pride and admiration, as I know how exceptionally talented she really is; therefore I am BEYOND excited for her to move on to bigger and better things! Yes, I know everyone has the right to their opinion, it's a free country, and that's why I'm here Have a great rest of the evening, and hi to Mike!!
Well, I know that this will make Laura fans cringe, but to me, Ashley is exactly what "Sandy" should look like! But Ashley has so much more than just the look! She's got the whole package--the singing, dancing, and acting too! To me, she was always the obvious choice! :)
I was, and still am, a Laura fan and I'm not cringing-are you disappointed? I thought Laura was perfect for the part and obviously more people agreed with me than you. LOL I'm really happy for Ashley, but really wish that her fans weren't so nasty.
That Girl, I've got to say: AMEN to that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ditto everything you just said, you couldn't be more right!!! Yes, I'm TOTALLY happy for Ashley too, it's nice to see her get a chance to be Sandy, and don't see why her fans couldn't be nicer Perhaps they feel their time is a tad bit overdue??
Of course, I am terribly prejudiced, but thank you all for the kind words about Jose. I love him too!
Hello there D & B! I've got to say that one of the greatest things about this show is that yes, some of us initally may have gone to see Max & Laura, but a wonderful discovery (at least for me) has been some of the other performers: they hysterical Miss Lynch, the WONDERFUL Stephen Buntrock, ooooh, Matt Saldivar!!, and the awesome Jose Restrepo!!!!! In fact, I'd be willing to fly in from MN to see any show Matt and Jose happen to end up in next; they are MEGA talented and I know they will have wonderful, long careers!!!!!!!!
I remember standing in the studio the night of the finale. I was pressed up against the stage; I had Nate's sister and her husband to my right and to my friend's left was Max's sister. I had my hands clasped in front of me and I was holding my breath. I couldn't even hazard a guess which way the vote had gone. Throughout the process I had met Laura, Ashley, and their families and I only wanted the best for both of them. And when Laura's name was announced I shed a tear. Not just for Laura but for Ashley as well.
Laura had a wonderful time during her year on Broadway and performed the role beautifully. And now it's Ashley's turn and, so far, she's off to a great start.
I wish we could all be a little more understanding of each other. Laura and Ashley both "won" in different ways. There is no need to argue between the two.

From your lips (or keyboard in this case) to God's ears. Thanks!

I stupidly thought they would have them when I came to broadway this week and I went to visit one of my former students who is battling Luekemia and told her I would try to get a poster with their autographs. I guess we'll have to settle on a plain Grease playbill.:(
How did the poster from Staples turn out? I sent a professional shot to Walmart.com just last night to have it turned into an 8x10 and it came out horribly. They cropped it really poorly and it came out fuzzy.

I love the update on the grease site with Ashley and Derek's picture faded behind the Rydell High pennant where you click to read about the show. I just noticed it on the website and don't know if it was there all along and I just missed it or not. Just 22 hours till I will be on my way to New York!!! I can't wait to see Ashley and Derek in the show
I just click on ringtones on the grease main board. Ash and Derek's picture is now on the cell phone...how cute.
