Since this is an open forum, I hope people come even if their point of view doesn't match another person's point of view.
There is enough room here for differenece of opinion and let's hope we are all mature enough to allow it.
Yes, there can be different opinions. But I think that there is a difference between stating your opinion and being mean! Some people's comments are just negative, and being negative seems to be their intent.

Definitely negative attention is the intent of a lot of people on here. I am rather tired of it too Kristen! Move on already.
Maybe we read it with our own point of view and so therefore, it may seem mean to one person and not to another.
That's probably part of it, but I think a lot has to do with tone. Also, some people only post when they have something negative to say. It may be different if they were also posting positive comments. But they choose only to come on and be negative. It's only a few people that I am referring to. I am generalizing because I don't want to be mean and single people out.

Yes Kristen...I know what you mean....you never hear anything from them, until it is time to for them to be negative.
They come on here because they don't have anything else to do...and want to antagonize! They should just move on. It's definitely time!
Don't be so hard on those people Buzzy, you would feel bad too if your favorite Danny and Sandy didn't get renewed and didn't have a job. They don't have anything positive to talk about.

Broadway is very fickle. Today you are working, tomorrow? Who knows! In fact, Laura is working at the Kennedy Center and has a number of commercial voice overs, which makes for lovely residuals. Max? I am sure we will hear something from him soon or later, but he didn't want to stay in NYC even if he was offered an extension on his contract.
Being positive is easy. Grease had a great cast and still has one.
I think I saw one of Laura's commercials the other day. I know she did voice overs for a Teen Spirit. I was only half-paying attention but I'm almost positive it was her voice.

BRIGADOON was put on hold because they lost an investor, same reason why GODSPELL and FOR COLORED GIRLS were put on hold. The show with Harry Connick Jr. was cancelled after Marshall and her team (which included her life partner on sets) left because they couldn't come to an agreement. Next up for her, if it's still being planned, is ANYTHING GOES, to inaugurate Roundabout Theatre's newest space, the renovated and redesigned Henry Miller.
Regarding Laura and the tour, if they didn't want to pay her well, why shouldn't she take it. She was probably getting, say, between $5 and $10 grand a week whilst on Broadway and they were probably gonna pay her Equity minimum for the tour. Why should she take a pay cut to do the Bus and Truck?
Lastly, people are gonna post whatever they want, where ever they want. Just look at what I do. You don't like it? Don't read!

Don't come in here and claim to know how much money people were offered when you don't know. All the Grease contestants were offered the same amount of money should they win, and it wasn't even $5,000 much less $10,000. And, Mr. E., that is a fact!
I doubt that the leads got paid that much. But you couldn't buy all that publicity, which is worth $$$$.
Most of the finalists of YTOTIW have done pretty well for themselves, which they might not have had the same opportunities without the show.

I feel the same way, D&B. Most everyone got some sort of job out of doing the television show. Like Max once said; "there's win or not win".
I know Max and Laura didn't make a lot compared to other leads on Broadway. They certainly made more than I do in a week
I don't know what they were offering moneywise for the tour compared to what they were making on Broadway but I believe that money was only one of the reasons Max and Laura opted to not to the tour.

I forgot what the term is something like run of the theater or whatever, but no one got paid a lot for their work because of this term used by the producers.
News flash for all of you Grease fan... we ALL LEAVE IN THE PAST AT A CERTAIN POINT ... because Grease is the past that still leave thru the future.... and as far as am concern I do not live in the past cause I like Ashely
Of course we look back at the past! Remember good times, learn from our mistakes, etc. The past helps make us the people we are today. Ashley is the shining star that she is today in "Grease" because of the wonderful experience that she had in "Hairspray." We all take what we learn from each experience we have and allow it to shape who we are. But we live in the present and must remember that too!

Ashley getting the part of Sandy has nothing to do with her experience in Hairspray, it has everything to do with fact that the powers that be wanted to take advantage of the fact that she had a lot of fans from the reality show who would be willing to pay big bucks to see her. Don't be surprised if Ashely's contract doesn't get renewed if Brittney Spears of some other big star wants to take her place.
I didn't say that Ashley got the part of "Sandy" because of being in "Hairspray." I'm saying that Ashley has used the wonderful experience of being in "Hairspray" to continue to grow as a performer. Everyone gets better and better in their jobs as they gain experience. I am a better teacher today because of what I have learned from teaching in years past. As she plays more and more roles, Ashley will learn from them and build on her knowledge as she moves on to other roles. Every good actor does! And Ashley is already wonderful as "Sandy." But she'll use what she learns from playing "Sandy" when she portrays other characters. And from the wonderful reviews and comments that Ashley is receiving from the press, fans, and the powers at "Grease," it WOULD shock me if Ashley's contract was not renewed.
It wouldn't surprise me at all.
I'm sure Ashley's contract will be renewed! You're absolutely right Kristen!

Yes, and I think that the people who disagree and say so need to move on. It's frustrating to see the stars of shows being judged like that. And why would you want to be on a board about a show if you are not happy with the show's stars? I would never go on a message board for a star I wasn't a fan of and say negative things. If I wasn't a fan of the star, I wouldn't go on the board in the first place.
Guess what? No one really cares who you think should be here and who you think shouldn't-except of course your fellow Ashley lovers. lol I've been here since the show started and I don't expect to leave anytime soon. I don't have anything against Ashley, I just wouldn't be surprised if her contract wasn't renewed if they could get someone higher profile to take her place. The powers that be obviously wanted to take advantage of Ashley's fan base when they gave her the part of Sandy and if someone else could sell more tickets once Ashley's fans have dryed up they will give the part to someone else-hence the six month contract rather than the full year. It doesn't mean she isnt talented but it also doesn't mean she was any more talented than Laura. Don't be so sensitive as to try to ban people from posting on here that want to talk about Laura. I would love a link to any of the reviews that have posted in the press singing Ashley's praises. I have only seen press releases and reviews from her fans.
I didn't claim to know what they made, hence my quote:
"She was probably getting, say, between $5 and $10 grand a week whilst on Broadway and they were probably gonna pay her Equity minimum for the tour."
Then why would you say what you said? Please respect you on here, and they take what you say as gospel. "A " listers make tons on money. Sutton Foster, Kristen Chenoweth...they probably make $10,000 a week. And I stress, probably. They may also make a % of the house, but who knows for sure. There are minimums. The leads of Grease, I'm sure, don't make that kind of money.

I guess I just don't understand your need to be on the board and be so negative. Even now, you are doubting that Ashley would have received praise from critics? I post links to articles all of the time that have talked about how well she is doing. Plus there are reports on here about how Jim Jacobs, Jerry Seinfeld, etc. have praised Ashley's work. If you don't have anything against Ashley, great, then don't doubt that she is doing a great job. I don't think that it sounds as if Jim Jacobs or any other powers at "Grease" have any plans to replace her. When you have a high quality performer like Ashley signed on, there's just no need to do that. And there are plenty of fans who will continue to go and see her as "Sandy"--I have no doubt.

You are one of those people that need to move on. You have nothing positive to say, and no one really needs to hear your drivel. MOST of us (not all) are very tired of it. I'm sure you have your fans too, but I'm not one of them! Have a good day!

You obviously don't know much about the business if you think I am being negative when in fact I am only being realistic. Maybe you shouldn't be posting in a thread about Laura if you are threatend that some people who are posting here might have prefered Laura to Ashley. Laura was also a high quality performer-you do remember that more people voted for her than voted for Ashley don't you? I know that it was mentioned on the show that it was very close between the guys and the fact that they never said that it was close between Ashley and Laura leads me to believe that it wasn't. If you don't like what I'm writing, maybe you shouldn't read it, because trust me you are never going to convince me that I am not entitled to express my opinion. I asked for the link the press singing Ashley's praises because when I read what you wrote I thought you meant that their were some actual objective reviews for Ashley's performance and I have not been able to find any. I don't doubt that Ashley is doing a good job I just don't think she immune from being replaced.

MrE said don't read what you don't like and I would agree that he is correct. Sheesh! I just agreed with MrE! What is this world coming to?
As I said earlier, if people had differences of opinion and stated them in a respectful manner, that's fine. Some people are not and are acting rather immature. If you are just saying something to be negative, why say it? Why make the board an annoying place for others when it is supposed to be pleasurable? If you are just going to be negative, there's no reason to be on the board and ruin it for others.

I'm wondering why you are making comparisons between Laura and Ashley when I thought that was what you didn't like. I could compare them but I'm not going to stoop to your level. As AshleyFan is stating now, Ashley is "Sandy," is doing a great job, and there are no plans to replace her. Ashley's fans love her and will continue to go see her in "Grease."

Thank you for pointing out the obvious Dogs and Birds. It's hard to believe that some people feel they have the right to dictate who gets to participate on this board. This is America and this is a public message board for goodness sakes. lol
I would assume everyone is smart enough to realize that the sentence did not read "she made that much money," as there was the all important "probably" somewhere in there. If I said "she made X amount each week" and I was wrong, then you could call me out. I covered my bases here.
Compared to Equity minimum, which is almost $1600, $5000 is not a number far off for people who are headlining a production, big or small.
If I had won a reality television show and I wasn't making that, and the producers were making so much money OFF me, I'd fire my agent.
Ashley Spencer doesn't need your approval! She's already got the job! So say whatever you want!
Exactly, no one should be threatened by what I say. I'm glad there is at least one Ashley fan that isn't so sensitive that they feel that someone who isn't sure that Ashley's contract will be renewed should not feel free to post here-especially in a thread about Laura.
You ever thought of taking your show on the road? Sheesh! I meant the terms of the contract! If they were anything like American Idol, you would be surprised how poorly people are paid.
Nad wrote:I cant wait to see Ashely play Sandy to compare her at Laura...
It's hard to compare Ashley's Sandy to Laura's Sandy because their approach to the characters is so very different. Ashley's Sandy comes off as more self-assured and less shy than Laura's. Is one better than the other? Not really. They're so vastly different and yet they're the same character.
I like Ashley and Laura equally and have seen them both perform the role. I have also seen them both perform outside of Grease. I think any quibbling over who's better is basically just "noise" because I honestly feel there is no "correct" answer.
It's okay to have your preferance - especially if you've been watching said performer for years and years. But let's try not to discount someone else's preferance.
