Great idea, emptyhd! I haven't been around a lot lately, but I don't want to let Taylor's run end without saying some good-byes. I'll be back to post my farewell a little later.

There's a Japanese proverb that goes like this " One good word can warm three months " The word is Taylor and his enthusiastic portrayal of Teen Angel lit up the stage for a three month run.I'm beyond thrilled that he was so warmly recieved. It's been such fun reading the reviews, seeing the videos and all of the amazing pictures that fans have posted, for all of that I'm grateful ! We have been on an awesome journey with Taylor for two years, never knowing where it would take him or us,it's been a blast .Now it's on to a new album and another tour.Taylor you were born to be on that stage, you have touched so many lives, with your music , we're ready for more ! ROCK ON TAYLOR !!

I think I'm having a meltdown! I'm getting "verklempft" as I read these recaps! It really has been a wonderful summer for TH and his fans. I believe that "Grease" and especially the wonderful actors in the cast, will always have a special place in Taylor's heart. They welcomed him and embraced the celebrity "status;" that came along with him, without any hint of resentment. (I will always remember the opening night video at Planet Hollywood, with Max making horns on Taylor's head, while he and Laura were being photographed with him. They were goofing around together and you could see the bond that had already developed between Taylor and the cast. Then in the video of L & M's final show, at the end where Taylor would ordinarily be playing the harmonica standing in between the two of them, he went over to the side of the stage and stayed there playing instead. It was obvious he wanted them alone to be the center of attention, and you can see Max motioning to him, calling him over. I thought that was such a telling moment for both Taylor and Max, as they were looking out for each other, at such an emotional time.)

I think that NY is where Taylor needed to be at this time in his life and career; that he needed to experience something totally different, and maybe even more importantly - make some new friends who would touch his soul in a positive way. It's obvious from the recaps, and from witnessing it ourselves - (those of us lucky enough to get to Broadway) that it's been a happy, meaningful time for him. He's been more relaxed and more talkative - and seemed like he felt very much at home - both in and around the theater, and with the people around him.

I'm so glad that this site survived the early days of Taylor's run. I'm glad that the "Greasers" hung in long enough to realize what was happening because of trolls and troublemakers, and that they gave his fans a chance to share some Soul Patrol mania with the "Grease" family.

What Azure said, LOL!!! biggrin  Seriously, that was VERY well put Azure smile

I had mentioned in another thread that though I am excited for what's in store for the future, I am sad that Taylor's Grease run is apparently coming to an end. He REALLY seems to have enjoyed it; his very happy face in so many of the pictures speaks volume.  And it's been SO fantastic seeing new pictures of him all the time and reading the wonderful recaps smile

So onward we go!  But I do also plan to stick around if only to make sure D&B is kept up-to-date on his tour schedule biggrin  And I'll also take this opportunity to say thanks so much to the Greasers on here for sticking it out through the rough early days and for being so nice smile

This Grease fan is grateful to Taylor for playing his harmonica to the side at Max & Laura's final curtain call. By giving M & L the limelight alone at that special moment, Taylor is clearly a true gentleman.
Although the Soul Patrol brought some "interesting" baggages (or nasty trolls) along when you first joined this forum. Over time, it has become obvious that you're really very nice folks. This Grease fan hope you will visit the Grease forum often after Taylor's departure or at least update us on Taylor's new ventures either here or in the main Grease forum.

TAYLOR MADE

MIDTOWN RENTAL IS FIT FOR AN 'AMERICAN IDOL'
By MICKI SIEGEL

HICKS, OUT OF THE STICKS: Taylor Hicks has lived, written music and often cooked in this one-bedroom apartment while starring in the Broadway production of "Grease."

September 4, 2008

"This apartment has been perfect for me and what I wanted to achieve," Taylor Hicks says of his Midtown rental. "I wanted to write some music, have friends over, be comfortable and be close to Broadway."

But his stay is now coming to an end. The season five winner of "American Idol" is winding down his first role in a Broadway musical as a soulful, Elvis Presley-ish Teen Angel in "Grease." His last performance will be Sept. 7. (Not to worry, "Idol" fans: On Sept. 9, another season five contestant, Ace Young, will join "Grease" as Kenickie.) For the past two months of his run, Hicks, 31, has been living in the posh Atelier condominium on 42nd Street. This sort of "Hollywood on the Hudson" building, a half-block from the river, has residents including Lindsay Lohan and Nick Lachey. The building features a roof deck, swimming pool, fitness center and basketball court.

Hicks' two-bedroom, one-bath corner unit, which rents for $4,600 a month, includes floor-to-ceiling windows that offer river views as well as city views to the north and south.

"It's a wonderful apartment," says Hicks, who likes the convenient location. "I run in the Hudson River Park, I swim in the pool and I practice my golf swings at Chelsea Piers. It's close to the theater, and I really enjoy being near the water. It's just the best of both worlds."The apartment came furnished, but, Hicks "spruced it up a bit."

Together with decorator Marne Cahn, he bought new pieces that are both handsome and practical.

"This is my first time of having new things," the gray-haired, Alabama-born singer says. "Everything I've always had in my apartment have been my grandmother's hand-me-downs. This is the first time I've actually been able to go out on my own and buy a piece of furniture that hasn't been handed down over generations in my family."

One of his new pieces is a soft avocado suede couch daybed in the second bedroom. It can open out into a queen-size bed for friends who stay over.

"This room is kind of my sitting room," he says of the second bedroom. "I write music in here, I talk on the phone. And the view - it's just about a 180-degree view of whatever you want to see in New York. At night, with the city lights, it's absolutely stunning." The living room is outfitted with a deep brown, almost black leather sofa, which "is really comfortable," Hicks says. "Some mornings I wake up and realize I slept the entire night on the couch. That's how comfortable it is."

It's also the room where he has a wall of guitars.

"I keep the two guitars I like to write with hanging on hooks on the wall," he says. "They're handy, so, if the muse hits me, I can corral her before she gets away." In addition to playing guitar and singing, Hicks has many other talents that he didn't get a chance to display on "American Idol." Like his green thumb - almost every window is filled with thriving plants.

"Because there's so much light in this apartment, there's an equal opportunity for lots of plants to grow," he says.

That extends to the coffee table, which has a glass top with plants and peat moss inside it.

"I just thought it would be real cool to have some greenery within the table," he says.

Hicks is also quite the cook. The open kitchen has seen him whipping up dishes for guests. His specialties are lasagna and chicken piccata.

"A few days ago a fan sent me five slabs of barbecued ribs," Hicks says. "They were already pre-cooked, so I just put them in the oven to warm them and brought them to the theater so we could all eat them. Needless to say, we danced a little slow that night."

Now that he's leaving the show, Hicks is about to record his next album. There's no title or release date yet (he's hoping for early next year), but he's quite excited about it.

"I had time to really create and write the songs," he says. "It's going to be very creative."

And ending this run in "Grease" doesn't mean he's saying goodbye to Broadway. He's hoping for another musical in the not-too-distant future.

"I've had a wonderful time," Hicks says. "I'll be back here again. I'll be putting all my new furniture right back in a place somewhere around here.

"I'm really thankful that I was able to come here and experience New York and help spice up the place a little bit. It's definitely country come to town."

From American Idol to the Broadway stage
Taylor's touched our hearts in so many ways
When the last clap is heard
When the final curtain falls
When he walks away one last time
His emotions will be hard to define
The countless fans who came and saw
Is what it's about and who he does it for
He can look back with pride
On all that he's done
Another chapter written with many more to go
For the man and his music that we love so
So thank you Taylor for a job well done
You make loving music so much funsmile.gifsmile.gif

Just my feelings now that Taylor's run is almost over,I know I'm a sap LOL !

Thank you for hosting us the SoulPatrol.
I have learned much here
an You have been most gracious.

Taylor's stint on Broaday
may be coming to an end
But his journey continues on.

Hope to see you at a concert
Now that's where our soulman shines!

I myself will still stop in
if just to lurk and enjoy
each an everyone of you.

God Bless

Judy -

Loved your writing, as always! No wonder you're feeling a bit blue - Taylor's last show and worrying about cousin Fred. I hope writing out your thoughts made you feel a little better! They made me smile!

(Do you think we're all feeling a little down - not because it's his last show - but because he won't be in one place where we can "find" him! LOL! (Not that the SP detectives have a hard time hunting him down wherever he is! They're actually quite accomplished. A couple of them must be retired from the FBI. "Without A Trace" has nothing on the SP on a mission!)

It's 9:14pm. Taylor's run in great is only moments from ending.

Maybe the Taylor fans are ripping the seats out. Kinda like the last game at Connie Mack Stadium.

Geez,I thought we'd established that most of Taylor's fans are decent folks ! LOL I really doubt they'd do something like that ! I'm curious though as to what happened at Connie Mack Stadium ?

Connie Mack Stadium is a past Phillies stadium. During the last game the fans were ripping the place apart. Taking seats and stuff as souvenirs.

Well, the SP certainly doesn't need to rip apart seat cushions for souvenirs. They have plenty of Taylor memorabilia.

I think the only people ripping anything in the theater tonight might be the producers, et al, ripping out their hair at the thought of losing Taylor.

And I think Taylor's fans stayed pretty much inside the lines of the Theater Etiquette Guidelines that were discussed back in the beginning of June. And Eris, I immediately thought of the etiquette rules, today when you commented that you had started clapping and making noise when Keniecke does his solo! I guess the excitement and high energy are catching! And that's a good thing, because I'm sure Ace's fans will be showing much appreciation for their guy! And I have a feeling that Ace is going to be a high-energy actor (like his buddy Taylor) which means the fun will continue on the BA stage.

Clapping doesn't fall into the parameters of Theatre Ettiquite? Applause is expected at the theatre.
